Eugene House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Casual, affordable and oh so conveniently located, Nifty Thrifty is the answer for singles, couples and small families seeking elbow room on a visit to fun and funky Eugene. Park the car in the attached garage: Around the corner (29th and Willamette) you’ll find a gourmet market, and a variety of restaurants and shops. Bring a bike or take advantage of the two bus lines that are just steps from your door – either way, you’re within minutes of Fifth Street Market, the Hult Center, Saturday Market, the University of Oregon campus and Hayward Field, or Autzen Stadium. It’s only 20 minutes by car to the Lorane Valley wine country, less than 60 to the whitewater beauty of the McKenzie River, and less than 90 to hike or ski the Cascades. Nothing’s out of reach from this location!

The one-story 1950s-vintage house features two bedrooms, a full bath, hardwood floors, a fireplace, a private fenced and landscaped backyard (roses!) and a laundry. The full-sized kitchen is equipped with all the appliances you’ll need to pull together breakfast at the dinette or serve dinner in the dining room. If there’s business on your schedule, there’s a workstation in the master bedroom and WiFi throughout the house. The neighborhood is quiet, safe, friendly, and eclectic. You might hear the neighbor’s chickens softly clucking now and then, but don’t worry – no roosters!

Said a recent guest: 'Nifty Thrifty was the perfect choice...ideally located, close to shopping, public transit, the university, and Amazon Park with its bicycle & running trails, children's playground and a great dog park. The home is spotless with all the extras one could need, even a garage for the car. The back yard was perfect for our pooches, completely fenced with plants and lawn and a small patio with a table and chairs. The neighborhood is extremely quiet with very little traffic other than the local residents. All in all, we couldn't have been more pleased...and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a vacation rental in Eugene.'

The details:

• Queen-sized bed in the master bedroom.

• Full-sized bed in the second bedroom.

• Sofa-sleeper (queen) in the living room.

• Air bed and cot available for child use, with special owner permission.

• The house is ramp-equipped for handicapped access, though not all interior doorways are accessible.

• All linens and most cooking supplies are provided.

• Quiet dogs are welcome with owner permission.

About The Owner

With my husband and two teenage children, I've traveled the world -- always on a budget, preferring to spend my money on interesting locations and new experiences instead of luxurious lodging. I've brought my personal travel philosophy to Nifty Thrifty, where you'll have a place of your own with all the comforts of home. And, thanks to our very reasonable rates, you'll have the extra spending money you need to make your visit to Eugene and the Willamette Valley memorable. When you stay at Nifty Thrifty, you're not dealing with a distant owner. My family and I live just seven blocks away, and we're always happy to answer a question, solve a problem, or make a suggestion. Come visit us! We know you'll be pleased!

The Owner purchased this house in 2000

Why The Owner chose Eugene

This house was in the family and just too sweet to let go. It's perfectly located for anybody coming to Eugene for any reason, and it's our pleasure to share it with you! Check our over 65 five-star reviews to see the many ways that Nifty Thrifty pleases its guests and leaves them promising to book again soon.

What makes this house unique

If you've ever wished you could be a local, just for the length of your stay, Nifty Thrifty lets you do that. Neighbors will nod and wave, you'll see a variety of people passing on bikes or on foot on this quiet street, and when you venture forth to shop or find a meal, you'll be taking the same steps your neighbors do day after day. Have a conversation at one of the two bus stops that are each less than a block away. Pick up your morning coffee at the bakery/deli, browse the farmer's market (in summer), select something delicious to bring home from the best markets in town, have a beer at the sushi bar or a cocktail at a stylish restaurant -- it's all just two blocks from your home-away-from-home!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We ventured here from a faraway land – Oz. We truly enjoyed our stay here and wish it could have been longer. However, moving on is life on the "Wicked" stage. Wishing you all the best! Dancing through life, Justin, Ryan, and Ryan Patrick.

My parents stayed at the Nifty Thrifty over Thanksgiving this year. They loved the location and the house was very clean and comfortable (and cute!). They ended up staying a few extra days, and we really appreciated Ellen's flexibility with this on such short notice. They had a great time and we highly recommend this vacation rental. We would definitely rent it again. Thank you, Ellen!!

Owner's Response: Thanks, Anna! It's always so nice when people find Nifty Thrifty to be an enjoyable nearby place to house visiting relatives. It's fun for the locals, who don't have to bear all the cooking and entertaining duties, and often especially satisfying for the out-of-towners -- who relish the opportunity to host a meal or an evening of togetherness without having to make reservations or buy tickets to something! Glad your family enjoyed it to the hilt! --Ellen

Nice place to stay

  • 5 of 5
We visited Eugene to visit with family for a week as part of a longer trip and were looking for a vacation rental to call home for a bit. "Nifty Thrifty" as Ellen calls it fit the bill. The backyard was very nice and secluded, the house was well maintained and was a nice size. Pretty much anything that you might need was stocked already, but we added a few things in our stay as well. Just a 5 minute walk away is an excellent grocery store "Market of Choice," which is basically like a better Whole Foods or Trader Joes. The Amazon park is within walking distance too, but that is a bit further. Centrally located, Nifty Thrifty is a good value in a good location.

Owner's Response: Thanks, Steve, for your review. I'm glad you found the house and our neighborhood perfect for your needs! I'll bet the Market of Choice would love hearing your favorable comparison with "those other stores." It's amazing -- and it's just a block away from Nifty Thrifty, offering everything you could possibly desire, including fresh pizza, a mouth-watering deli, and sushi made to order. Hope to see you and yours again soon! --Ellen

Well Equipped, Comfortable, Affordable

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I were in Eugene to visit son and family who live but a half mile from this house. It was a great option for us, close and very affordable. But when we arrived, we quickly discovered what a great choice we had made. Nifty Thrifty is a very neat house, clean and well equipped with everything from kitchen supplies, bath and bed linens, full laundry and comfortable furniture. It was close to restaurants and grocery stores, an urgent care facility, auto repair, retail shops and a beautiful city park. Owner was most helpful and welcoming. We will certainly plan to stay here each time we visit Eugene and will probably plan our trip around the availability of this very comfortable accommodation.

WONDERFUL home and experience

  • 5 of 5
Just emailing Ellen to ask about staying again at her great house when I discovered my original review must not have gotten posted.

We three (my husband, dog and I) had a wonderful visit early June to Nifty Thrifty. Do not think that the fact that this home is indeed an excellent value, that it is in anyway lacking. The home is so clean and comfortable. The yard is inviting and (in early June at least) fantastic to spend time in), and the neighborhood provides you with a variety of restaurants, a great hiking path, dog park, and shopping in easy walking distance. A quick car ride and you are on campus, or downtown, or at a winery. Truly this is a wonderful home to stay in. We are so hoping to spend another wonderful few days there soon.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much, Marcy! You've worked hard to ensure that your review is seen, and I appreciate it! You're right, it may be tempting for a would-be guest to assume that Nifty Thrifty's low price means a Spartan experience, and that's far from the truth. Time and time again guests tell me they were amazed to find something they needed -- whether it was a needle and thread, an iron, a particular spice, a crockpot, a hand mixer, etc. Yes, we provide a lot, but it's also true that Nifty Thrifty's guests help out by adding little items that they think would be useful to others. --Ellen

We loved this home, it was very comfortable and homey! The location is awesome, you can walk to stores, restaurants and the most awesome park( Amazon) if you have a dog walk him or her to the doggie park there! We felt at home and being close to where my son is and not being intrusive! We will return in 2015 for another visit. Thank you for being pet friendly!

Comforts of home in great location

  • 5 of 5
This is our second time at the Nifty Thrifty! The house is perfect for small groups or families, and we loved the yard, for ourselves and our doggies, for all the fresh fruit we were able to pick and eat on the spot! The kitchen is great for preparing meals, and has everything you need for full-on cooking!

Location-wise, you're a couple of blocks away from market of Choice, an (admittedly expensive) market that's a great treat when you're traveling. Also, if you have dogs, don't forget Morse Farm Dog Park...you could walk, but it's about a mile away. Our dogs run and play and love this park, and it's very large and friendly all around. You are also only a few blocks from Amazon Dog Park, an average park that gets the job done.

Lastly, Ellen is friendly, personal, and tries very hard to make your stay a great one! I hope to be back next summer...can't say enough good stuff about this little gem of a house!

Owner's Response: Aw, Debbie, you're such a good friend to Nifty Thrifty! Thanks for providing info for dog owners who stay with us. The Wayne Morse Ranch Dog Park is the one you're referring to, off Crest Drive. Fingers crossed we'll see you and yours next summer! --Ellen
