Our custom built cabin in a premier location on Rush Lake on the Whitefish Chain, offers you a place to retreat and experience as much or as little as you like during your stay. The setting with 125ft. of sandy shoreline offers gorgeous tranquil views of the lake. With or without coffee in hand, you will wake up and be drawn to the deck to look over the lake and let the view sink in as your eyes come into focus. We are very fortunate to be located on Rush because it is perfectly central to all the major lakes on the chain. This location makes it less than a 5 minute drive to town including Reeds (the grocery store), restaurants, Dairy Queen and The Chocolate Ox (for ice cream), and all the fun little shops Crosslake has to offer. You really capitalize on the location if you have use of a boat. There is good fishing on Rush and you have very easy access to surrounding lakes for fishing or to boat-up restaurants or simply to cruise “The Chain.” Where you stay on the chain is very important to consider because the location of many cabins make the trip to town or to restaurants by car OR boat much more time-consuming. Other activities within a 5 minute car ride are tennis courts, huge kids playground and miniature golf.
The cabin is thoughtfully designed with very generously sized bedrooms with a variety of bed sizes including 2 kings, 3 queens, a beautiful crib, and 2 sets of custom built twin bunk beds…all quality mattresses, no futons or roll-aways and with hygienic freshly cleaned coverings over all mattresses. The cabin sleeps 10-12 people.
The spacious open floor plan on the main level offers stunning views of the lake with windows spanning the entire lakeside of the cabin. The fully-equipped cook’s kitchen is open to the dining and living rooms. This enables families, friends and the cooks to interact at all times. There is a breakfast bar perfect for kids to eat at or to serve hors d’ouevres. The kitchen is spacious enough for several people to be part of the cooking and clean-up process. One of the best features of the entire cabin is the huge wrap-around deck spanning the entire lakeside and wrapping around to the dining room. It is accessible through 2 different sets of sliding glass doors making the outdoors always just a step away.
The cabin also features a huge flat concrete driveway with a basketball hoop and is suitable for many other activities. There is an outdoor fire pit ideally situated overlooking the lake, perfect for watching the moonlight shimmer on the water while listening to the waves gently roll and the loons call to one another.

My name is Ben Wismer and I am the proud owner of our beautiful cabin retreat on Rush Lake. My father custom built the cabin with careful attention to detail. His foresight and planning regarding the siting of the cabin, the floor plan and the care taken in each step of the building process has left us with a gorgeous lakehome to enjoy in an ideal location on the premier Whitefish Chain of lakes. In addition to the cabin itself, the two things that make this the ultimate MN destination are the connection you feel with nature and the sense of adventure you feel through the array of activities available both on or off the lake. If nature, tranquility and time to reflect is what you are looking for, go no further. If swimming, boating, fishing, waterskiing or golf trip your trigger, go no further. If you are like me, you want to do it ALL...or at least try! What you don't fit in this time, you fit in next time.
My grandfather receives the credit for his foresight over 50 years ago that The Whitefish Chain of lakes would someday be one of Minnesota and the mid-west's premier destinations. Having a custom built lakehome retreat was a dream shared by several generations of my family as well as the vast majority of Minnesotans. We invested in this location because of the 13 lakes there are to explore and because of the charm and amenities that the town of Crosslake has to offer. Having said that, our particular location on the chain is worth pointing out. Most of the restaurants, shops, gas stations, grocery store are all located within just a 5 minute drive of our cabin whereas cabins on many of the other lakes can be 15-25 minutes to town. If you are fishing or boating to restaurants our location is very hard to beat in terms of proximity to restaurants and central location on the chain itself. A 5-10 minute one-way boat ride can easily be a 30 minute one-way journey or more from other locations on the chain.
Having vacationed in Crosslake at our cabin my entire life, I know close to everything there is to do up there. For me, top priorities every year are boating, waterskiing (now tubing for my kids), swimming, dining at local restaurants, basketball in our driveway, relaxing on the wrap-around deck taking in the lake view. We are on Anchor Point Road which is a delightful road for walking, jogging or biking one of which I fit in almost every day. In the evening you will often encounter deer along the road.
This is our second time staying at the Retreat on Rush, and we plan on returning again next year! We had a group of 9 stay at the cabin and there was plenty of room. The cabin is clean, cozy, and has a beautiful view! The owner was helpful and welcoming. Would highly recommend!
We had a great time during our week here. We really loved the location on the lake. It was wonderful for skiing, tubing and floating. It was also close to connecting into the other lakes and restaurants on the lake. The cabin and dock were well maintained and the kitchen had just about anything a person could need. Thanks for sharing your cabin!
Our family had a wonderful week-long vacation at this lovely cabin on beautiful Rush Lake. The location of the cabin could not have suited us better. We loved dining out at many restaurants that are just a few minutes away by boat or by car. The road leading in to the property is very scenic, and great for walking, running, or giving a young child a stroller ride, which our granddaughter certainly enjoyed. The cabin was very well-equipped with dishes, silverware, pots and pans, cooking utensils, etc. The property as well as the inside of the cabin are very well-maintained, and the view of the lake is gorgeous. We really enjoyed visiting around the fire pit at night, and the large deck is wonderful! The Whitefish chain of lakes is incredibly beautiful, and it was a wonderful family week for all of us!
We really enjoyed our week at the Retreat on Rush. The clean and well maintained home was very comfortable for 8 adults . The kitchen is well stocked with all of the dishes, silverware, utensils, and cookware needed to make just about any meal easily. There is a nice coffee pot and also a dishwahser which made clean up easy. Many pitchers available for making ice tea in. The deck had chairs and a table available and provided a nice view of the lake. We observed nesting bald eagles with their 2 eaglets in a tree across the lake using binoculars - it was spectacular. We also saw many other eagles, loons and blue herons on our outings. The call of the loons could be heard into the night. Our goal was to fish and enjoy the surrounding lakes. There is a very nice dock for a boat or 2. We fished everyday and everyone caught fish - sunfish, bass, perch and northerns. We caught some nice sunfish right from the dock. We boated around Crosslake and the Whitefish lakes and enjoyed meals at Zorbaz and Moonlite Bay on Crosslake. We enjoyed the fire pit almost every night. All in all everyone had a wonderful and relaxing time.
We love this cabin! There was 12 of us, and plenty of space. The bedroom layout is perfect for kids. We cooked big dinners each night. This kitchen has everything! Ben really covers all the details that a renter wants. We rent a lot of cabins, and this is one of my favorites.
Perfect lake views while sitting my the fire. I hope they continue to rent this great cabin.
Do not hesitate to rent this great house on Rush Lake! We had a wonderful time during our week long stay in August of 2011. We drove up from St. Louis, MO, 11 hours, and would do it again. The only negatives to the place were a fireplace was in the house that you are not allowed to use and there is no shore line area on which the kids can play. I would think in the cooler months one would enjoy a fireplace in the evenings. Other than that, you will have a fun time. We spent our days fishing, swimming, boating, exploring the town of Crosslake and relaxing. The home owner was easy with which to work. The town has all you will need: grocery store, liquor store, boat rental, fishing tackle shops, restaurants, gas stations and shops. We are in our early 40's with three kids that are 11, 7 & 7. We asked all three kids if they liked this trip or our week long vacation at Disney World last summer.....Retreat on Rush won hands down. We rented a pontoon boat in town and loved the folks who helped us. Nights out on the boat were spectacular with all of the stars to see. At night we'd burn a fire in the firepit behind the house and watch the stars while listening to the loons as we looked over the lake. (You can buy firewood at most of the gas stations in town.) We'd lay in bed at night and we could hear the loons as they swam by. It was VERY peaceful. Keep your eyes open for the resident bald eagle, it is BEAUTIFUL! We had all the utensils and dishes we needed for cooking, serving and eating. There are blankets on the couches for cuddling up while you watch TV or a movie on the DVD player. The back porch is huge with furniture for tons of people. We shot hoops in the front driveway and had room to play catch. Do not rent this house if you are looking for a party scene. The town did not appear to have any "clubs" even though it did have some local watering holes. The house is on a very private street that is nearly silent all day and all night long, except for walkers. If you want a party vacation party I'd suggest Miami Beach or Rush Street in Chicago, not Crosslake, MN. The neighbors were great. The local people were as helpful and as pleasant as you could ask for. The water was cool & clear and swimming was fine. There are weeds in the lake but you get used to that very fast. We had 5 people but I think you could easily fit 12 - 15 people with no problem. We received our full deposit back on time with no hassles. Thanks Ben!
