Packwood Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

There is nothing like watching the river and mountains from our deck or great room windows. No matter what season there is always something to see. Mama Elk helping new babies cross the river, magnificent eagles fighting over a salmon catch, beaver collecting debris and branches to build their homes, and a wide variety of ducks, geese, and birds. An amazing drama of some sort or another plays itself out right in front of our eyes.

Enjoy walks along the river, roasting marshmallows over our campfire pit, or lounging on the deck. In the evening you can stargaze and if you are lucky, watch the full moon rise from behind the mountains directly across from us and shine on the river below. Then fall asleep to the sounds of the river.

And that’s just for starters. We are located in close proximity to Mount Rainier National Park, Mount St. Helens, and the Goat Rocks Wilderness area. Literally minutes away are great trails to hike in the summer or snowshoe in the winter. White Pass Ski Area is only 25 miles up the road. With all the additions this year, White Pass will be the place to downhill and cross country ski and snowshoe. If you need equipment, our Spots Hut in town or the rental shop at White Pass can get you ready for your day’s activities. Then return home to the warmth of a fire, the comfort of a cozy cabin or soak away the day’s activities in our outdoor hot tub.

If you are looking for peace and solitude, for rest and relaxation after skiing or hiking this is the perfect place. We have heard over and over from people who have stayed here that they felt refreshed and ready to hit life again after a stay at our cabin.

“What a pleasure it has been for us to stay in your home. The beautiful rooms, well equipped kitchen and the beautiful view and relaxing atmosphere have helped us unwind from a long year of strenuous activity.” Howard & Betty, Paul & Romaine – Beaver Falls, PA

“We found your home to be a very comfortable place to return to each day after long and strenuous hikes in the beautiful surrounding areas. It’s a lovely retreat home.”

About Mark or Sharon Romero

My husband and I raised 3 children in Tacoma Washington before we moved to Packwood. Mark recently retired from the Boeing Commercial Airplane Company. I retired from Boeing several years ago. We discovered Packwood about 15 years ago and were in awe of the mountains surrounding the town. We are especially drawn to Mount Rainier. We moved to Packwood permanently 8 years ago so we could live the quiet rural life. We were not sure how much we would enjoy it after living in the city for so many years but we love it and can’t imagine living anywhere else. We recently built and moved into a second home so we are able to share our river house with others.

Mark or Sharon Romero purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Mark or Sharon Romero chose Packwood

We purchased vacation property and spent every weekend we could in Packwood. It was close enough from our home in Tacoma that we could throw a few supplies into our car on a Friday night and within 2 hours we could be sitting on our deck watching the moon rise from behind the mountains and shed its light on the river. Packwood is perfect for us because everything we love to do is just a short distance from here. We enjoy hiking, backpacking, skiing, snowshoeing, and rafting down the Cowlitz River. In just about 20 minutes we can be at a trailhead in the Goat Rocks wilderness area or the Stevens canyon entrance to Mount Rainier National Park. A little farther up the road and we can be at the White Pass Ski Area. We have created some wonderful memories here. In summers past we have headed up into the national forest just minutes away and put our rafts into the river. After a 2 hour rafting trip we would get out in front of our cabin and light up the BBQ. We have backpacked into the Goat Rocks Wilderness area with our children and our nephews. I like to think the rocks we added to the Pacific Crest Trail monument at the top of a peak are still there. We have hiked trials, snow shoed at Paradise on Mount Rainier and cross-country skied at White Pass Ski Area. But one of the best memories my husband and I share is when we pulled our mattress out onto the deck on a warm summer night and stargazed until we fell asleep. My husband woke me the next morning so I could watch elk graze in front of our deck. It doesn’t get much better than that! Our cabin by the river has been a great place to share with family and friends.

What makes this cabin unique

Our cabin sits just yards from the Cowlitz River. Morning walks with our dog Joey has become a ritual. We love watching him climb over and under logs brought down by the river. From our great room window we can watch a variety of wildlife, which for us, has been one of the best features of our place. Our cabin is just a 10 minute drive into the town of Packwood where we can load up on supplies and stop by the local coffee shop to catch up on the local gossip while sipping our lattes. Then walk through the town and check out our shops and thrift store. When we are finished with our day’s activities we enjoy sitting around the campfire, stargazing or playing games in front of the fireplace. Our cabin is a great place to stargaze – wide expanse with little artificial light to interfere. And of course we love the idea of sitting in the hot tub or the Master bath’s jetted tub after a strenuous day.

Outstanding Family Vacation Site

  • 5 of 5
Our Packwood, WA, vacation experience on the Cowlitz River was outstanding. This was our best VRBO stay ever. The reason was a combination of the location on the river, the physical condition of the house we stayed in and the excellent hospitality of the owner. The owner lives near by and was always checking to make sure we had what we needed to make sure our stay was an enjoyable one. We had access to Mt. Rainier National Park and Mount St. Helens National Monument. We could even hike up the Cowlitz River to the National Forest. The house was equipped with everything we needed and when we asked if a "slow cooker" was available the owner dropped one off for us to use. The combination of service, location and the physical condition of the property was A plus.

The family had an excellent time & visit! The owners are close by and attentive, and provided a helpful walk thru of the cabin and hot tub.
The view is grande, and close enough to Mt Rainer to catch some good hikes. Lovely scenery just outside the window as well.
The cabin is lovely, clean and well appointed -- the kitchen even has things I don't have at home.
Thanks for a fine stay, and we will be back!

River-front perfection!

  • 5 of 5
What a vacation home! Every detail was thought of, great house, and what a view. Pictures can't capture the Magic. Enjoyed hours playing on the shore of the river, fishing, hanging out on the deck and stoking the fire-pit. Great access to Mt. Rainier and Grove of Patriarchs. Can't wait to return for another family vacation. Very clean and great kitchen to cook in.

We had a very good experience here. I have plenty of experience with the VRBO system. The owners here genuinely make every effort to make your stay with them comfortable. If you are like us and are looking to relax after a long day of hiking, this home will serve you well! I highly recommend it!

There were 3 of us. We are painting teachers from 3 different areas of the US who travel to just about any destination to share our knowledge. Since I was in charge of booking a location, my fingers were crossed that I had chosen a winner. I already knew that the location was a winner...and I trusted the photos shown.

Let me tell you! The photos don't even begin to do justice to this "cabin". This is a lovely home away from home, close to the river in order to hear its rushing water 24 hours a day. LOVE that sound!!! The ammenities were 10 times what I'd have guessed. Everything was so clean and neat and ready to walk in and immediately feel at home. We are already talking of future plans to return as soon as possible.

During the evening of our first day we were thrilled to watch 6 or 8 elk playing and running across the river and into the woods. One evening we watched an eagle gliding above the river, catching the wind currents. We saw Canada geese, 2 or 3 varieties of ducks, and lots of birds.

Yes!!! We'll return!!!

Amazing place for a quick getaway!

  • 5 of 5
What an amazing setting to relax in. The photos do not do this property justice. Exceptionally clean and the grounds are very well maintained. This home literally is right on the river, and is very well appointed "cabin." Full kitchen facilities, two full baths (jetted tub in master) and three bedrooms, washer/dryer, hot tub, propane bbq (with propane), outdoor eating area with outdoor chairs and a fire pit. What more can one ask for. Mark came by Saturday morning to show us a few things that weren't in the "house book" and to see if we had any questions (he called first to set up a time to visit). Close to ski areas, fishing, hiking trails and Mt. Rainier National Park if you want to head of for some adventure. We were perfectly happy to sit on the back porch or in the great room and watch nature go by. Take a walk along the river, it is just steps from the back door. My son's ventured along the river for the better part of a day. Watching the sun appear from behind the Tatoosh Range was a great way to enjoy the early morning. Close to town if you need to run to the grocery or hardware stores for any supplies. It is an excellent setting for a quick get away from the daily grind of the city. We had an amazing visit and hope you will have us back again. They are pet friendly but ask that you be a responsible dog owner and not let your dog tear things up. The property is fully fenced, but those with little dogs may want to keep an eye out. There are areas where smaller dogs may be able to slip under the fence.Very reasonable requests. Also no dogs in the bedrooms and they ask that you crate your dog at night or have them sleep in the mud room. We have a larger dog and he loved exploring the property. There is a nice area where the fast flowing river pool so if you or your dog can brave the chilly glacier waters it is a perfect place to take a dip. The hot tub was very nice, clean and hot! It was relaxing to sit in the tub and star gaze. The hot tub is in a very private location on the property and still has a great view for day time tubbing. Some of the wildlife we observed, Elk, Turkey Vultures, A Red Naped Sapsucker, Blue jays, Golden Eagle, Bats (heading out to control the mosquitos at dusk) Common Mergansers, Pintail and Wood Ducks, Geese and many songbirds. This was all while sitting on the back porch relaxing.
