Located on 25 secluded acres, this little piece of paradise has excellent walking trails right out of the door and incredible mountain views from some of the property. Half meadows and half woods, there is room for all activites.
Keywords: Beautifully renovated barn/ Chalet, lots of space and light. Great views and outdoor space. Close to Hudson Valley attractions. Heaven for dogs. In the summer we can handle very large parties like family reunions and weddings.
I rebuilt this barn and a few of the neighboring properties. I have long experience in hospitality and production and will work hard to make your experience enjoyable. I won't play the pipes while you are here...
Sean purchased this barn in 1998
It is beautiful and close to the city. It is only two hours from downtown Manhattan, but when you cross over the Shwangunks and see the view you really feel like you have gone somewhere far away.
Wildlife viewing, often from the porch - turkeys, deer, fox, and lots of birds.
Between the huge lofts, full recording studio (whaaat? why the heck not?), insane, outdoor, light up (beer pong)table, bathtubs and shower with HOT running water IN THE WOODS (there are showers inside but indoor showers seem a bit overrated after getting all scrub-a-dub-dubbed in the good ol' wilderness), tree house and ginormous fire pit, I can't imagine a better place for a group of 15 or so friends to rekindle the magic.
Richie and friends were the most gracious of hosts, ensuring that all of our needs were met. We had a problem with our phone when we arrived and Richie came over right away, got everything fixed up and we were able to let our mommas know that we arrived safely. What a guy!!
Really, seriously, I can't wait to come back year after year! Art Farm for lyffeeee. :)
I don't normally write reviews but I had such a good time up here last weekend that I felt obligated. Was looking for a place to crash with a bunch of friends near the Gunks that had plenty of beds, lots of space, and a laid back atmosphere. This house surpassed all of my expectations. I'm still recovering from the amount of red meat we consumed, prepared in the fully stocked kitchen and on the grill. Check it out if you need a base camp for friends/family while you go climbing, hiking, or if you just want to relax on the massive property itself.
We had a group of fifteen gentlemen who stayed at Artfarm the weekend of May7th, 2011 and we had an awesome time. I don't think we could have found a place better suited to our needs. There were two outdoor smokers and grills that we used all weekend and a great kitchen that had a lot of dishware that I've seen in restaurants I've worked in- so you can easily accommodate cooking for a large number of people. Sean was excellent in getting us settled in and left us with a direct number in case we needed anything from him. There is a lot of land out the back of the farm house and it backs up to beautiful woods that are large (we got a little lost in them). In the woods I caught two types of salamanders, one type of newt, and a snake. I'm just saying- the ecosystem is very healthy! There was a hammock out back and the atmosphere is very relaxing. Also, I have to say that I searched extensively on VRBO and this place is by far the best value one can find in Hudson Valley, especially if you're accommodating a large party. Many thanks!!
My wife and I along with some friends decided that we needed to unwind from city life and spend a weekend relaxing. We happened to bump into Sean's listing and found during our weekend there that the photos are true to form, the property is amazing and Sean and his family are unbelieveably kind. Our trip was planned at the last minute and Sean accommodated us in every way. Upon arrival, we were met with hospitality and treated that way through the weekend. I should mention that we have three dogs and this property is a really a fun place for them. I would recommend this property.
I have visited and stayed at The Artfarm many times and have always found it a relaxing, well-equipt getaway from the confines of NYC. The renovated barn is great - from the huge cathedrel-esque main room to the fully stocked kitchen. The land surrounding the barn provides privacy, walks, and quite simply - space to breath! Can't beat it for an inexpensive and close retreat from the confines of NYC.
This property is a real gem: filled with beautiful landscapes, gorgeous reclaimed renovations, great people and the positive energy that results from those components. There is even a great dog! I would recommend this for any family looking for a fun, peaceful place to spend some time in the country. This is a rare find of a real "home" to inhabit instead of a hotel.
