Even nicer than the pictures can show

Date of Stay: July 2011
We stayed a week at this cottage in July of 2011. When we drove up, we saw a deer behind the cottage. As we entered, the brightly painted door and flower pots were a cozy touch. Everything was extremely clean, including behind couches, in the kitchen, and in the bathroom (not that we checked behind the couches, but we couldn't help but notice). The cottage was decorated tastefully and minimally with seaside art. There were high quality mattress protectors, sheets, and quilts on the beds and lots of extra bedding if we needed it. The beds were very comfortable, including the two twins in the room where our child slept. The kitchen was well stocked with a microwave, utensils, pots and pans, a toaster, a coffee pot, coffee filters, trash bags, salt, pepper, etc. The screened-in porch was a lovely spot for reading, eating, or playing games and had a couple of tables. Our son used one of the tables to sort and organize his seashells and other treasures. The neighborhood could not be more quiet, and the tall pines around the cottage are indicative of the entire area's beautiful trees. It's a great area for taking walks or riding bikes. Don't forget to look for the black squirrels! The Douglas beach was a short walk away (about two blocks). It was small, quiet, and beautiful. Both Saugatuck and Douglas were great little towns. There were no fast food joints (except for a Burger King by the highway) or big box stores, which is what we liked about it. There was a decent little grocery store just a mile or so from the cottage where we could get anything we needed. There were lots of wonderful art galleries and restaurants, great dining by the water, and many fun activities (dune ride, duck boat ride, tour of the S.S. Keewatin, canoeing, berry picking). Oval Beach is a brief drive from the cottage and we think it is the prettiest beach in Michigan. It is surrounded by dunes and was never crowded during the week. We even went for a few hours on a Saturday afternoon. Although it was busy, we easily found our own spot on the beach that wasn't too close to anyone else. Gloria was a wonderful host. She made sure we were well taken care of and was easy to reach (call her on the phone rather than send an e-mail). We had a fabulous time with lots of family bonding and something everyone (grownups and child). We couldn't recommend this place or its owner more highly! Thanks, Gloria, for memories we will treasure forever. We're sure we'll be back!
