Activities: Take advantage of all the Caribbean has to offer: swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, charter fishing; take day trips to relatively uncrowded Maya ruins; wander the streets of nearby Mahahual fishing village (recently heavily damaged by Hurricane Dean); swim with the dolphins; or just watch a sunrise from your bed.
Area: The small community of Xcalak is 45 minutes by car, an excellent place to charter a boat or arrange scuba or snorkel tours to famed Chinchorro Bank, 30 minutes off shore.
In the opposite direction is Mahahual, 30 minutes by car. Recently, Hurricane Dean devastated this town, as well as incapacitating the cruise ship dock. You can help these people get back on their feet by using whatever services are being offered there.
