Mia Moran-Cooper purchased this house in 2010
My husband and I have enjoyed the Low Country around Beaufort, SC for many years. We find the whole area, dripping with Spanish moss and Southern charm, to be so romantic and enchanting, full of historic interest and unique Gullah culture. There is something here for everyone to enjoy: If you get bored with the natural beauty, unspoiled beaches, nature center, trails and lighthouse at Hunting Island, there is shopping, dining, carriage rides and playing at the waterfront park in downtown Beaufort; the Marine Corp Parris Island and Marine Corp Air Station and more. Nearby Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC offer great day day trips. In April 2010, we just could not pass up the opportunity to buy a two-year old home of our own at Harbor Island where we watch dolphins follow the shrimp boats and enjoy yet another private beach where we have watched egret nest eggs hatch, followed sea turtles and collected our share of horseshoe crab shells!
Includes use of 2 unlimited car passes for nearby Hunting Island State Park (usually $5/per person/per day entry fee but you will get your whole carload in for free each day with our pass) Includes use of all the Harbor Island amenities: private beach, swimming pool (April 1-November 1) tennis, basketball, gym, crabbing/shrimping dock and more
The house was fantastic. We came down from Virginia for my sons graduation from Marine Corps basic training and the house was perfect for friends and family to gather and reconnect. It was a 20 min drive to MCRD, very easy, it took longer to get the thru main gate than it did to get there. The Large well stocked kitchen made cooking "real" meals a breeze. The living room area was where everyone spent most of the time, just sitting and talking, and looking out the windows at the terrific views. Unfortunately the weather was very cold the week we were there, 19 degrees one night with 40 mph winds - BRRRRR, but that didnt affect our stay one bit. Several of us did use the golf cart on one of the warmer afternoons to do a little exploring at the complex beaches. I would love to come back here when the weather is just a little warmer and spend some quality down time.
Thanks so much for a great place to stay.
This was our 2nd stay at this house this year. The first time this summer we brought the kids and grandkids, and had the best time. This time we decided to come for our anniversary trip again. Our favorite thing to do was sitting on the 2nd balcony, drinking coffee, while watching the shrimp boats and different types of birds. We never got tired of watching the sunset from there, but found we liked the sunrise just as well, as it changed the colors in the sky while it was rising on the other side of the island. The owners are ever helpful and so easy to work with and the home is colorful and welcoming as always. This is a great place to unwind from the world, and reconnect with those you love. Its all the little things that make the difference here.
This is probably the best home we have ever rented from VBRO. This listing is written very well to describe the home but it surpassed our expectations! We have vacationed at at several low country beaches in SC and Harbor Island is our favorite. Quiet, family friendly, amazing water and wildlife views! This home was perfect for our family. Plenty of space, very clean, owners offering the use of a wonderful golf cart, passes to Hunting Island State Park, lots of beach items, bikes etc... Mia was very helpful. She gave us so many pieces of insightful information about the island, things to do nearby and even told us where to see baby turtles leave the nest to head out to sea. That was a once in a lifetime event for us! If you want a reasonably priced vacation home with everything you could possibly need for the week...this is it! I highly recommend this island and home to anyone!
My family and I chose this property because of the space in the house and the helpfulness of the Owner, Mia. From the first inquiry, Mia was very helpful and communicated with us about everything. I've heard that its the little things that make the difference, and it holds true here. This house had everything, and we didn't have to bring it. several bikes of all sizes, beach chairs, beach toys, beach towels, fishing rods, and books and pamphets in the house that educated you about the area. The limo gold cart easily rode all 7 of us with no problem at all. We couldnt get over all that was available to us. What I loved most was the view. It has the best view of the bridge, sound, and sunset, and we watched the shrimp boats every day. Not directly on the ocean, but it didnt make a difference at all. It was a short ride by golfcart or bicycle. The house is amazing - bright colors, and lots of room. The 4 bathrooms came in quite handy too. I loved the fact that the kids were on the 3rd floor, and the adults had the second floor to themselves. There are so many beautiful pictures on the walls taken around the island and area. Very tastefully presented in the stairways and in the rooms. We were so surprized at how beautiful the house was, and spacious. Mia was great, always helpful and pleasant to deal with. I would recommend it anyday, all day. The pics on this website just dont do it justice. We had the best time, and didn't want to leave. It was great, relaxing, family vacation. The Campbells
Thanks for sharing this wonderful home with us. I wish we could stay here for another week.
This is a clean, beautiful, quiet & friendly neighborhood. This area belongs to the typical "Old South" where we met many folks with eyes smiling tenderly;
Mia the owner has been always easy & prompt to get in touch. She answered all my questions and concerns, provided help that we requested.
Our kids loved bike & golf-cart riding, swimming in the pool and wading in the beach.
I love the pictures & paintings which reflects the grace and artistic tasts and cultivation of the Owners.
We love the hose in the outside corner of the house & the outdoor shower. They were so useful for cleaning everytime we came back from the beach.
We like the decks all the time. particulally in the morning and sunset hours.
We saw jumping fishes, turtles, fiddler/ghost crabs and a 3-meter (9-foot) long alligator in the lagoon just behind the house;
While we watched the gator swimming close to the bank bushes/trees near the house, we heard 3 roars from that bulky beast which were like strange low-frequency acoustic resonances from a big hollow sewer !
My wife & I loved watching the sunrises at the southend of the beach and sunsets at the northend. Those are all new & wonderful experience for us;
We especially loved walking alone the beach and enjoy the sea breeze & tranquility harmonizing with the chirping of the sea birds and soothing sound of the ocean waves.
We saw all sorts of seabirds, horseshoe crabs, jellyfishes, hermit crabs, baby sharks, stingeries, fiddler/ghost crabs, oysters on the beach & marsh;
We visited Hunting Island 3 times. We climbed the light house, visited northend & Southend, natural center & fishing pier.
I like the natural center pretty much and learnt a lot from it. It demonstrates local wildlives & marinelives to the public, in a very helpful, dedicated and educational manner. It's truely a place of the People for the People by the People.
I was born in a coastal area in eastern China with a lotof seashore activities at my childhood. But all these activities were badly missed and had to become burried remote memories after I went to Beijing and then Atlanta.
One wonderful thing when I was walking on Habor Island beach: I could pick my childhood memories on my hometown seashore and there was a song lingering around my ears:
Country roads, take me home,
To the place where I belong ... ...
listing was accurate and house was perfect for us. Plenty of space, quiet neighborhood for bike riding, excellent pool and beach area. House very clean and well maintained. Great places to eat nearby including Dockside, Boondocks, Steamers. Hunting Island State Park was phenominal and we visited several times. We would love to go back and would recommend this property without reservation to everyone.
