We LOVE Davis Park and are always working to make this charming and cozy house updated and maintained every year so that it is always light and airy, and in perfect condition. We use the house ourselves in the spring and fall seasons, and our home becomes your home in the summer. Every year we try to enhance the house with new amenities to make it more comfortable. If you don't see it in the house - just ask while you're there, and we'll get it for you..... ! See our reviews on this website -- our renters love the house and have a great vacation there - no matter what the weather is. We have many families that come back year after year -- some have been coming back five or six years in a row.
Birdhouse is a clean, convenient three bedroom house in the town of Davis Park, on the eastern end of Fire Island. The ferry from Patchogue leaves the visitor off in "downtown" Davis Park where one will find a grocery store, wine store, grill cafe and the Casino restaurant with its ocean views. Birdhouse is a five minute stroll down the main boardwalk.
This is a very comfortable, clean, and cheerful beach house. There is a large deck with tables, chairs, umbrellas, and a quality Weber gas grill. Inside is a well equipped kitchen including dishwasher and a new electric range. There is a good compact stereo system and DISH television and DVD player. It is just a one minute walk to the pristine ocean beach for which Fire Island is so well known. The tool shed has many comfortable beach chairs. When returning from the beach, wash off the sand and sunscreen in the outdoor shower. The shed also houses a high quality washing machine and clothes dryer.
Too much sun or need a break from the beach? Talk a twenty minute walk eastward to the Watch Hill wilderness area. Wooden walkways take one through salt marsh and sunken forest. Great for birdwatching and photography.
For a relaxing, beach vacation: a place in which to slow down and unwind, the Bird House in Davis Park is a great location.
The listing is very accurate. The house is well located just a few houses from the ocean and a few houses from the bay. House layout is also very functional -- simple and easy to live in. Clean, well-maintained, everything works, just the right amount of supplies and amenities.
Owner is extremely helpful with details about the island, the beach, and the house. I would definitely recommend this house -- which is why my family and I keep returning year after year.
Davis Park has friendly people, great church, restaurant, waves, and clams.
We rented the week of July 4th and had the best week of our life's. I took my wife and 4 kids. The house was just perfect for our family. All the appliances where working and in great shape and we especially loved the outdoor shower. The owner of home was amazingly helpful in making sure we were prepared and had the best time. She provided us with all the information we needed to enjoy our stay. Anyone looking for a perfect getaway at Davis Park I strongly recommend staying at the Birdhouse!!!
This house is even lovelier than the online photos. Absolutely charming and very clean! The attention to detail and comfort makes for a perfectly relaxed vacation. The owner is very helpful and provides all the information and assistance you may need to get to the Island, order your food, and get to the beach house. Her attention to detail is unsurpassed. My children were just delighted with the fun touches, lovely children's books and beach toys provided.
The location of the house is to the right as you get off the ferry and a few blocks down, very well situated between the Bay side and Ocean side so that you can easily access both.
The kitchen provides all the utensils, appliances and equipment you may need and outdoors has a nice new propane BBQ that is easy to operate even for 1st timers.
When you return from the beach there are convenient foot sprayers, outdoor shower, and laundry room, all easily accessed to clean up before going indoors. Lots of fans are provided for an all day/night breeze as needed, nice bedding and towels are provided too. And a hairdryer :-) We brought extra towels because we have three children and use LOTS of towels. Just bring yourself, sunblock and your swimsuits and enjoy a stress free vacation at the lovely BIRDHOUSE. My children still ask when we are going back!
The Bird House is a great vacation home in a nice community on Fire Island. Davis Park is perfect sized at a couple hundred homes. The neighbors are nice, friendly and quiet. The house is comfortable and air circulates throughout very nicely.
The home is very clean and well maintained. It has everything you need to cook including a very nice outdoor grill. There are plenty of chairs for the beach and sand toys for the kids. It takes only a few minutes to walk to the beach. If you forget something, piece of cake as it is not a chore to simply stroll back to the house.
The Casino restaurant food was very good. And as it is the only game in town, that is a good thing. Ordering groceries from Waldbaum's and having them delivered is a great way to go for all the other nights making dinner at home.
We had four adults and one child and the house was perfect (3BR) for our crew. We liked Davis Park and The Bird House versus the prior year's stint in one of the bigger communities (which was still very much fun).
The only drawback (and it's not that big of a deal) is that there is not the same amount of sidewalk paths to explore (much smaller than Fair Harbor/Ocean Beach) and there aren't the scheduled fairies to go from one community to the next. Again, not that big of a deal if you are happy enjoying Davis Park, which in and of itself is nice. Just a touch smaller. Obviously you can walk on the beach forever.
The beauty of The Bird House is that because it is well cared for and clean ... you want to leave it as you found it knowing that the next visitor will be able to enjoy it as much as we did.
Look for Jack and Piper, the cute puppies a few houses down. They won't be puppies for long!
Birdhouse is a clean, bright, and cheerful three bedroom house on the main walk in Davis Park. It is a one minute walk to the beach and five minute stroll to the ferry terminal and shopping. The latter contains the Casino Restaurant: good food with great ocean view; a small but well equipped wine store, and a grocery store that supplies the basics. If you want good produce, fresh fish, etc. bring it with you or have it delivered via the ferry from a mainland supermarket.
The birdhouse has all the amenities needed for a great aseside getaway. The kitchen is well equipped, while the deck sports a new high-end Weber BBQ. A utility shed at the back of the deck contains a very good, modern washing machine and matching dryer. The deck also has a Fire Island requirement: an enclosed outdoor shower; simply a must after a day at the beach. There is ample seating in the living room, If you are tired of the sun and want to watch tv or a movie, there is a new flat screen tv with "dish" service and a DVD player.
Davis Park is a fifteen minute walk from the Federal wilderness area: Watch Hill. There are great views from the boardwalks of the wetlands and a winding path through a sunken forest. Bring your camera and mosquito repellant. (The Birdhouse has tight fitting windows with excellent screens. Mosquitos will not disturb your sleep in the Birdhouse).
We return to the Birdhouse every summer.
Davis Park, Fire Island is the Eastern-most residential community on Fire Island, accessible only by ferry. The only vehicles on the island are service vehicles for the fire department and utility companies. Davis Park is a quiet haven and family community of residential houses and privately owned boats in the marina; there are no hotels in this community and the beach is never crowded. The ferry terminal is located at Patchogue (not Bayshore!), New York, which is the closest town on Long Island. The nearest airport is MacArthur/Islip, NY about thirty minutes away. JFK is an hour+ away, and LaGuardia is a about an hour and a half away. For a day trip to NYC, it is possible to take an early ferry from Davis Park to Patchogue, and then take the Long Island Railroad to NYC (an hour and half ride each way), but be careful not to miss the last ferry back from Patchogue to Davis Park, which is usually around 10:00pm midweek and a little later on weekends.
Other Activities: Walk down to the bay for sunsets and clamming/crabbing, building sand castles on the ocean, DJ/ dancing and restaurant at the 'Casino'
