I booked this house online 3 months in advance for the 3rd week of Jan 2014. I went with my wife, my friend and his wife, both our 2 year olds and their nannies, 8 people. we were told it was "all inclusive" including a chef. When we arrived the house smelled musty but we thought it was just because the air condition wasn't on. Also there was no meal waiting for us when we arrived at night hungry. The "house manager" ,NOT the owner , as promised, met us. He said the owner would be by in the morning to discuss with us when we wanted the chef..We were promised all meals , so right away we were concerned. Tony never showed the next morning and we had to eat boxed cereal. We decided to go to the beach. No one was there as described to help us, and we had to bring chairs, umbrellas and drinks. We were told we would have people bringing us food and drinks to the beach.....absolutely untrue. When we got back , the "house manager " said the owner would come that night...at this point we were upset, no chef, no service, etc...He never showed that night and to eat we had to go into town . When we got back the house really smelled like mildew and we thought it strange since the air was on all day. WE looked around and there was BLACK MOLD in all the bathrooms and some closets! and everywhere outside? We had little children and were scared to be breathing this. We sent Tony an e-mail , since he never returned our phone calls, saying we needed finally to see him, enough is enough. No response, and the next morning the kids were coughing and my wife had a headache from the strong mildew smell. The house manager came by and called the owner who said he would come right over....we waited 2 hours and he never showed. We were wasting our precious vacation and couldn't deal with this anymore. We decided we must go to a hotel. We tried using the WiFi to find 1 on the internet and we couldn't connect as it said his bill hasn't been paid....Just a disaster all around...we drove @ and found a resort and booked 3 rooms. We went back and packed up everything and took @50 pictures to document the mold, broken window, flooded dishwasher and general disrepair of the house, because since the owner seemed like he could care less what had been going on , we would wind up having to file a dispute through AMEX. We won the dispute. I advise anyone...Do NOT stay here and be fooled. You will not get anything promised and the house is full of Black Mold
We went to Casa Prieto for a guys weekend and Tony and his staff were top notch. They made the trip the most enjoyable one we have had as a group. Great location, great house but what really made the trip excellent was the great staff.
It was a memorable experience. Tony Prieto was very gracious and accommodating. His house is a work of art. It is a multilevel house (so guests keep fit). There was a misunderstanding about our day of arrival but that was resolved promptly. We throughly enjoyed our stay there. The staff was great: a chef, a handyman and three cleaners. Thank you Marbel, Tomas, Margarita, Bella Luz and Jose. The neighborhood is very peaceful and safe and has a nice bike path, mayan ruins and 15 min bike ride from downtown. The beach is a short walk away.
