Villa Mandarinas is one of the brightest jewels in Mismaloya. This architectural masterpiece cascades down six beautiful tiers of native vegetation, dramatic cliffs and colorful gardens overlooking the beach and cove featured in the classic motion picture The Night of the Iguana. Villa Mandarinas offers its guests the ability to arrive by land or sea. By water, the homes earthy and vibrant colors draw your eye from miles away.
The propertys dramatic castle walls rising to the terraces, gardens and lawns above grow more impressive as you pass Los Arcos and continue to the estate. As you step off the boat onto Villa Mandarinas pier, you arrive at the private beach on one side of the property that balances itself against a spacious natural salt water pool on the other. These features are expressions of architect Alberto Alvarezs vision of what an tropical getaway deserves. Inside this eco-friendly villa, you will find a home entertainment system, a computer and Wi-Fi. Your reservation includes housekeeping, a cook service, a butler service, a manager and 24/7 security.
Soaring ceilings and capacious rooms open onto terraces and landings throughout the residence. The cathedral-like vastness of the property allows your cares to drift away. Four custom, handblown chandeliers complement the loftiness of the home. The chandelier in the dining room hovers below the ceiling illuminating the one of a kind sabino wood table carved from a single tree. The stairs, made from beautiful dark stained haya wood, act as the visual hub of the home. The base of the stairs flows organically into a massive boulder that bisects the kitchen and dining area from the main living room.
Each of the seven master bedrooms has a spectacular view of the bay and individual private terraces shaded by bamboo. The unique features of each master bathroom speak to the creativity and artistic inspiration of Villa Mandarinas designers. In one bedroom, a half ton sink has been carved from a volcanic boulder so massive that the piece was installed and the room built around it.
Villa Mandarinas can accommodate up to sixteen fortunate guests, and children are welcome. From corporate retreats, to families and friends, this villa makes an ideal spot to rejuvenate and refresh ones spirits. From golf to water sports, shopping and nightlife, there is something for everyone under the Riviera sun!

Puerto Vallarta was once a sleepy little town where the locals made their living without tourists, timeshares or even an airport. Visitors were so infrequent that the locals could tell you how many were in town on any given day. Strangely enough, Puerto Vallartas tourism boom did not come from Puerto Vallarta at all but from Banderas Bays most coveted jewel, Mismaloya.
In 1963 John Hustons The Night of the Iguana was filmed using Mismaloyas virgin coasts and unspoiled jungles as a backdrop. John Huston once wrote that he was the only person who cared for the place; he was of course, very wrong. The legend, surrounding the production and the many twists and turns of the casts romances while filming, had Americans flocking to theaters in droves, turning once unknown Puerto Vallarta into the dream destination for millions of Mexicos Northern neighbors. The incredible influx of tourism over the years changed Puerto Vallarta into one of the worlds most popular vacation destinations, and while Puerto Vallarta grew, the people who wanted to retain the ambience and feel of Banderas Bays once virgin coastlines rediscovered Mismaloyas beauty and tranquility. While Puerto Vallartas landscape and terrain allows for more and more expansion, homes in Mismaloya are rare. Most of Mismaloya exists in a single tier walking inland from coast, to home, to the road and finally to the Sierra Madre mountains.
Note: There are many stairs needed on regular basis - not wheelchair accessible
The villa is as shown in the photos which we appreciated. Everyone loved the staff-Alberto, Miquel, Reuben, Manuel, Gabriella and the housekeepers all of whom were superb both in their service and as people. We rented the villa to celebrate our 92 year mother's birthday and although the stairs were challenging for her ( we knew this before we rented) both she and the staff rose to the occasion to insure her the wonderful week she deserved. Our age group ranged from 92 to 24 and each of us loved the experience of the villa, Mismaloya and the surrounding area. Because of the staff, we were able to have a quality and fun filled family week to cherish.
My wife and I took 4 other couples to the Villa Mandarinas on what would be all of our first experience at a villa vacation. The staff at the villa was nothing short of excellent. The pictures barely do the place justice as it is stunningly beautiful. I dont believe there is a bad bedroom in the place. Being built on a cliff there are alot of stairs to navigate but that was not an issue with our group. Luxury Retreats had every detail taken care of and the concierge I dealt with made it a breeze to set everything up. If you get a chance gather 10 of your closest friends and make the trip!
The service and food were outstanding. The villa layout, mix of privacy and common space, décor, pool and view were all stellar. Location south of town was nicely non-commercial with good access to a more “genuine” Mexican feel. Of our activities, ziplining was the stand out. The ocean was quite a bit less accessible than expected, with dock in disrepair and currents too intimidating for kayaking or even lagoon exploring – didn’t really feel like we wanted to spend time on the waterfront since the most impressive thing was the surf and that could be seen and heard from above. The wireless internet didn’t work beyond the living room and nearest parts of the terrace. Food was very high quality and taste – everyone raved about just about every meal, and we wouldn’t have even gone out to dinner once if we had known how wonderful it would be.Thank you for a memorable stay. We look forward to returning and hope you will keep prices competitive (especially for lovely repeat guests)!
Many times you see photos of a place you are about to visit and once you arrive you are quite disappointed--this was NOT THE CASE. Every statement about the property and services were exceeded. The house was definately indicitive of an architect's vision and the location was perfect. But the staff was truly the icing on the cake--perfection in every way. From the moment we entered the property, they made us feel welcome (the cool scented towels probably helped). This continued throughout our stay--we wanted for nothing and knew we were only a request away if we did need something. Our meals were comparable to any five star restaurant that I have ever been to dine. Excellent variety, excellent presentation, and most importantly excellent taste. I can only sum up my experience by saying that I will be a repeat customer!
