Our home is viewed by all who visit as a peaceful and calming place to relax and enjoy the lush landscape and nature during the summers and the cozy fireplaces (4) during the winters. Most of our guests spend their time right here, just reading, visiting, hiking and fishing. This houses’ open concept living area is perfect for visiting with friends and family! It is also a perfect place to use as a home base after spending the days and nights seeing the sights of Southwest Colorado. Within a 5 minute walk through our meadow, down to the river, will land you at the trophy trout section of the Animas River where secluded fly fishing is abundant. Our 2200 square foot single level house has 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 3 fireplaces inside and an open cozy floor plan perfect for gatherings. There is an outdoor kitchen area with Barbeque, fireplace and furnished perfectly for outdoor relaxation and fun. The property is on 3 acres, with 2 ponds surrounded by green grass, several gardens, and trees. The wildlife (deer, wild turkeys, eagles, geese),.are part of our daily views.

The house is located less than 15 minutes south of Durango, so it is close enough to enjoy all that the town offers. As well the access to ski areas (Alpine and Nordic), hiking and biking are all less than an hour away. If you’re looking for a getaway to relax, this house is the serene escape you’ll love as much as we do!

My wife and I loved the location of this piece of property and the abundant water rights that comes with it. However when we first purchased the home, it and the land needed allot of work. We spent 6 years renovating it to the relaxing house it is today. We are very proud of the changes we have made, especially the landscaping and timber frame accents throughout the house. We are both retired and enjoy woodworking, renovating homes and the outdoors – especially gardening and flyfishing.
The Owner purchased this house in 2002
We love Southwest Colorado but particularly this property, because of the proximity to the river and the location here in the South Animas River Valley. We want others to experience the peace and contentment that comes with this house and hope to share it with others that will appreciate it.

Although southwest Colorado s known for its dry climate and vegetation, this house is unique in that it has lush vegetation, giving it a cool and peaceful atmosphere in the summer. Being located in the South Animas River Valley gives us “banana belt” weather during the winter, meaning we have slightly warmer temperatures than the homes on the mesas, prairies and in the forested areas.
Everything is great and the setting is beautiful.
Well, none of us wants to leave tomorrow. I think I could sit forever and look at your magnificent view.
I'm sure we'll be back again.

My stepfather, brother-in-law and myself stayed in this beautiful home. Trust me the pictures do it no justice. It's far enough from Durango for peace and quiet (very quiet) but yet close enough to town if you want to run in and shop or eat that is no problem. We were on a mens fly fishing trip. And you couldn't ask for a nicer spot. Very close to quality waters. This house would also be great just for a family trip. Lots of room and a beautiful setting. Chris was so helpful and you couldn't ask for a better home owner.
Great place to relax and experience nature. Loved the morning fishing, hiking on the trails, and the wildlife. My wife and I loved the privacy of the property. Loved the neighboring horses, and peacefulness of the streams running through the property.
My wife and I, along with our three children and family dog, spent a week here in July. We were looking for a place close to Durango, yet far enough away to feel like we were in the country...this home, about 15 minutes south of town, was perfect. The home and yard are fantastic. The home is beautiful inside...rustic yet refined. The yard is gorgeous: two ponds, large grassy area to play, secluded from the road, with tons of flowers and beautiful gardens...was absolutely perfect for our kids and dog to roam and play. The owners were great too! I would highly recommend.
This home really seemed like our home away from home. The setting of the home offers lovely views in every direction of the La Platas. We walked to the Animas River one evening, but it is better to go In the day when the mosquitoes won't bite. But it is an easy walk out the back. The house has a lovely outdoor kitchen and grilling area and fire place. We spent almost every meal there watching the sunset or the fireflies or the turkeys in the early morning. The house lends itself to cooking together in a large kitchen with a large fridge and plenty of counters. The dishwasher came in handy for cleaning up after a large group. The beds are comfortable and the hot tub was an added treat. The owners have great taste in decorating, using the southwestern designs in the furniture and art work. This was the perfect setting for our anniversary. The location is just right for getting out of town and being able to make some music around the outdoor fireplace without disturbing others and be in nature. It is close enough to town to run in and get groceries or go out to see the local sites like the narrow gauge train, or the shops around Main Street. Thanks to our hosts who made their home feel like ours.
Wonderful home located on beautifully shaded area near Aminas River. Lots of room for grandkids and dog to roam. Deer wandering about in the evening. Loved the outdoor space for meals and just relaxing. Family rated it "best place to make smokes" EVER! Plenty of room inside too while being surrounded by the well crafted wood work done by the owners. Amazing transformation when you see the photo of property when they purchased it.
Plenty of extras available such as spices, condiments, towels. 15 min drive to town which really was a very pleasant drive along the river. Mesa Verde 50 mins away. Several lakes for fishing AND good restaurants in town, if you want a break. Will definitely return and already have recommended to a friend and her fam, for their upcoming grandkid gathering.
Also great place for adults to gather (thinking girlfriend reunion) The sky at night is amazing.
Not very handicap accessible though. Stairs down to front door and (3) stairs in and out to patio dining.
One of the nicest rentals we've ever had. Furnished very comfortably with ample room for 6. The kitchen was great for cooks--plenty of provisions left to use, and a nice space in which to cook. The house also had a great sound system for playing music in the living room. We walked through the pasture down to the Animas river, dined on the lovely outdoor patio, and enjoyed a wonderful New Year's hanging by the fire. Owners were easily reached for any questions or concerns we had. A great destination for those who want quiet when you step out the door. We will definitely be back.
