Stayed: September 2011
We stayed in this home the week of Sept. 11-18, 2011. The location of this home within the resort is wonderful (ocean views - distance to the boardwalk and a glimpse of the lighthouse). The home itself is showing some signs of it's age (according to the owner's it was one of the first homes to be built in Corolla Light - 1985). The second level has some nice upgrades but the living area of the home could use some sprucing up (the carpet and vinyl flooring in the kitchen). We also had 3 small children (all under 3 yrs.) and it was a constant concern about the railing on the top floor (the rails are spaced far enough apart so that an unsupervised toddler could slip through). We have been vacationing at the Outer Banks for at least 25 years and this was my first experience using VRBO. One of the reasons we chose this home was the claim of the property manager that we would be staying in the cleanest and best maintained properties on the Outer Banks - SHOULD HAVE KNOWN!! This home was not the worst one we have arrived at, BUT BY NO MEANS was it the cleanest and the bed linens that were to be provided - well that's was a whole different matter.

Owner's Response: As owners of Four Seasons, we try to be responsive to comments and legitimate concerns from renters. Many of the upgrades and changes we have made over the years are a result of helpful comments from renters.
At the end of the 2011 rental season, we had 12 wonderful comments with no recommendations for any changes. These guests loved our house and the amenities that go with it. Unfortunately, in September, one guest gave our home a rating of 2 out of 5. While this is very upsetting to us, we appreciate this renter’s concerns and would like to offer the following responses.
1) The house was not clean.
The prior guest wrote that the “Four Seasons was in great condition”. Our home was rented all summer and by September, the house may have been showing some wear and tear. That is to be expected, but it should have been clean. Whenever we visit, the essential parts have always been clean. While mistakes can be made, Leslie’s cleaning crew is way ahead of most weekly cleaning crews at the beach.
2) The carpet and kitchen vinyl need replacing.
We agree. The carpet and kitchen flooring will be replaced in a major remodeling scheduled for 2013. At that time, the kitchen and dining area will be enlarged and wood flooring will be installed in the great room and kitchen. For the 2012 season, we have decided to replace the vinyl in the kitchen, which admittedly is not in perfect condition. However, it is cleaned regularly and is not in the awful condition implied by this comment.
3) Suggest a baby guard on the step railing.
The stairs have four extra wide steps and a ninety-degree turn at the top. Consequently, there has never been a problem with anyone falling as might happen with conventional stairs. However, a baby gate will be purchased and will be available for renters.
4) The linens to be provided. We provide bed linens each week for our guests. These guests brought their own bed linens and did not want this service.
Again thank you for your comments. We will make every effort to address all legitimate concerns. Most renters praise Four Seasons for its views, a large pool area with a wonderful kiddie pool, excellent mattresses, a well-stocked kitchen, two upper-level decks where one can enjoy either the sun or shade throughout the day, tasteful decorations, and a great location. In view of its many assets, a 2 out of 5 rating seems unreasonably harsh for this wonderful house. .
