We enjoyed our stay tremendously. After two months here we remembered what we missed, La Jolla and all the friendly folks and close proximity to restaurants, etc. You both were great, helpful and an occasional treat was well taken!
Our family of four (mom, dad, 11-yr old girl, 15-yr old boy) just spent a terrific week staying at this apartment, which is situated right in the heart of La Jolla Village. This second floor apartment was spotless and very well appointed. We were honestly lacking nothing to make our stay comfortable. Within walking distance of restaurants, a good grocery store, the beach and other amenities, we really enjoyed going native for the week. The Farmers Market, held every Sunday, is ONE block away!
A real bonus was the great patio that we enjoyed every morning and then every evening when we returned from our day of exploring.
Although these points didn't detract from our family's enjoyment of the property, you may have different ideas of what constitutes a perfect vacation rental:
1) No pool
2) No off-street parking (we didn't have an issue finding on-street parking but La Jolla is densely populated and it may be an issue at certain times of the year).
3) No ceiling fans in the bedrooms. We slept with the windows open; it was a bit noisy with traffic first thing in the morning during the week.
4) The apartment is accessed by a flight of steps.
5) The place is a bit "lighting challenged" for reading at night.
Finally, I can't say enough positive things about our hosts. They were very, very nice people who are clearly adept when it comes to managing the property appropriately for guests (they've been at it since 2006). Take some time to get to know them. They are dyed-in-the-wool Californians who are a wealth of knowledge!
When planning our trip to San Diego, we were interested in a finding a place that had charm and was within walking distance of restaurants. Lisa and Michael's apartment fit the bill perfectly! We enjoyed being able to walk to the beach, to the cove to see the seals and to the terrific near by restaurants.
Often when you view a place on the internet, it appears larger than it really is. In this case, the opposite is true. The pictures don't do the apartment justice. It is larger than it appears in the pictures and is absolutely beautiful!
When we opened the door, we were greeted with beautiful fresh flower arrangements as well as a bowl of fruit and home baked brownies. Wow! Lisa and Michael were wonderful hosts--helpful but not intrusive. If we ever find ourselves in the San Diego area again, we would most definitely consider renting this wonderful place again.
Great, comfortable place. The home has been furnished with care and attention. Wonderful personalized touches throughout, including lovely artwork and pottery. My husband, myself and our two children (five and three) slept very comfortably in the two rooms.
There are many restaurants and a grocery store within easy walking distance. There is a beach not too far away, though not one with amenities. The cove area is a long walk away, but manageable even with two kids. Highly recommended.
We had a wonderful stay here! The location was great--conveniently within walking distance to so many places in La Jolla. We loved talking a walk down to the water and to the local restaurants. The place worked out great for us. We had family over in the evenings, and there was plenty of room for everyone. The home is comfy and beautiful. Lisa and Michael were great--very responsive to emails and calls before our visit and warm, welcoming and helpful upon our arrival.
The apartment of Michael and Lisa was a perfect place for our two families. It is conveniently located close to downtown La Jolla and the beaches are only a few blocks away. Each morning began with a run or walk to La Jolla Cove.
We could not have asked for more accommodating hosts. We were greeted with delicious cookies, coffee, and wine. They provided us with a stylishly decorated apartment with all the amenities necessary for a pleasant stay. There were books to read and DVDs to watch. We could eat and/or just sit outside and visit. From the living room/dining room area we could watch the sunset over the ocean. When needed we could wash and dry our clothes.
The apartment is situated in a wonderful neighborhood. There are many interesting homes, many built in the 1930-40s, with yards full of fascinating flowers, shrubs, and trees. There is always something new to see and enjoy. Lisa is a potter and you will want to look among the plants in their yard to find the examples of her work that she and Michael have placed there.
Also, they were readily available to us when we had questions or needed some advice about the area. The apartment was within walking distance of markets, restaurants, and shops. We enjoyed a delightful Sunday Farmer’s Market a few blocks away at the elementary school. The listing description is accurate. The property both inside and out was immaculate and well-maintained. We were on a tight schedule so only stayed four days. We would suggest planning to stay longer. One could not ask for better accommodations in the La Jolla area.
This La Jolla property is sparkling clean, comfortable and centrally located to all one would want to do in the San Diego area. I was visiting someone in the military so the base is about 50 minutes away. It was for us a perfect distance away. There is a beach, market and dining all within walking distance to the property. The kitchen is superbly stocked for any cooking one may want to do after a short walk to the market. The host and hostess, Lisa and Michael, even supplied coffee, homemade brownies(the best), and wine as a welcome gift. There are twin beds(that they can convert to a king) in one of the bed rooms and I found this great if you are not traveling with couples. The other bedroom had a very comfortable queen size bed. This property offered a perfect experience of the Southern California lifestyle at it's finest!
