Amenities:
Fully equipped kitchen with new (2004) refrigerator and flat-top stove. Also microwave, disposal, coffee maker, toaster, can opener, all dishes, silverware, cookware, eating bar for 2, iron & ironing board, heat/central air, small CD player, cable, TV w/DVD&VCR player in living room, TV on porch, patio in back yard with picnic table and gas grill plus beach chairs, rafts, and other equipment in storage shed beside patio. Sorry there is no washer/dryer but linens are furnished. Also there is a clean coin operated laundromat 5 minutes drive.
Activities:
Within the Old Homestead area there is a tree shaded park with picnic tables and grills, a children's playground, basketball and tennis courts, softball diamond plus the wonderful, sandy beach with lake swimming. Within walking distance there are grocery, drug, video and hardware stores and several good restaurants including Berardi's Family Restaurant and Marconi's (fine Italian dining). Fishing is great (perch, bass, walleye) and the Huron Pier and Lighthouse can be seen from the Old Homestead beach.
Area: Huron & surrounding area: 5-10 minutes--access to the Huron fishing pier, major golf courses including Sawmill Creek and Thunderbird Hills, a fine library, banks, post office, grocery stores, well maintained & affordable laundromat, and other stores. There is also a community theater and one connected to the local branch of Bowling Green State University. Both offer high quality productions.
Extras:
An amphitheater at the downtown Huron dock area has entertainment all summer.
Sandusky: 10 minute drive to large mall, book stores, gift shops, many restaurants, Kalahari (a huge indoor waterpark and gameroom), and Cedar Point (In 2004 rated as top amusement park in World for 7th consecutive year).
Vermillion: 15 minute drive to quaint shopping area.
Catawba & Marblehead: 25 minute drive to boat charters and ferry docks with hourly boats to Put-In-Bay and Kelly's Island.
Cleveland is 1 hr. drive to multiple activities including Jacobs field, Browns stadium, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, outstanding museums and orchestra, and a wonderful zoo, worth a whole day trip in itself!
Golf:
There are a number of great golf courses within a few minutes drive of the cottage.
