'HALE GEDIMINAS' vacation rental is in a lush tropical setting on sunny Kona Coast. Spectacular sunsets on private lanai with ocean view overlooking Ili-Ili beach, which is 5 min down by car. The unit is studio like with private entrance, has a queen-size bed, bathroom, outdoor kitchen includes refrigerator, microwave, sink, gas grill with burner for cooking, grill could be used for baking (lasagna, casserole and stuff like that). We will send more pictures if required.
We are located in the middle of all the Kona side attractions, between Kailua Kona and Volcano National Park. Nearby are PU'UHONUA O HONAUNAU National Historical park and famous “Two Step” for great reef snorkeling; Kealakekua bay Underwater Coral Reef State Park, historical place where Captain Cook first sailed into Hawaii; and nearby Hookena Beach Park, also great for swimming and snorkeling and dolphins watching.

We spend part of our vacation on Big Island at Davia and Augusts place. Arriving, we found ourselves surrounded by a beautiful tropical garden. This garden must be explored as it is so rich and a real composition! There is something to discover at every corner e.g. nice sculptures, a seating area. The room and the outdoor kitchen are comfortable, cozy and spotless clean. Very impressive is the view from the private lanai: the ocean in front of you. It is the perfect location to watch the sunset or just relax and enjoy the surrounding.
The hospitality we experienced was really exceptional and we felt warmly welcome.
August made great suggestions on where to go. We found everything needed for a great day at the beach: beach chairs and towels as well as snorkeling gear. There are several beaches close by where snorkeling is possible.
Highly recommended! We would love to come back some day.
We stayed here our last week on the Island for 5 nights late November early December. August & Daiva are so very kind and welcoming. Drive up appeal is beautiful surrounded by well cared for gardens. We absolutely loved the outdoor kitchen and private lanai with view of the ocean. The rental has a black pebble beach available (short drive down) with excellent snorkeling. Located close enough yet far enough from main Kona tourist population. Short drive to most popular snorkeling attractions and coffee tours. We visited the Greenwell farms coffee farm; free short & sweet, worth the stop. We are avid snorkelers and enjoyed the much talked about Two Steps and recommend taking the time discover however nothing compares to the two days we enjoyed at local Hookena white sand beach (10 minute drive from the Hale Gediminas rental). Here you will discover Hawaii local chillin in all its beauty-August & Daiva have 2 beach chairs and cooler available to enjoy a full day of stress free relaxation at the beach (this also a camping beach spot so toilets & showers available). We recommend with high regards and plan on returning ourselves on our next trip.
we stayed here for the second half of our trip after several days on the east side. This place is a perfect spot for chilling out. Close enough to some good beaches, grocery etc. But not in the wackiness of the main resort areas. The apartment was clean and comfy, the cooking facilities were great and novel, the garden was relaxing. August and Daiva are helpful, friendly and accommodating. There are beach chairs to borrow, a cooler for taking to the beach, snorkel gear if you need it. ( I rented mine elsewhere due to needing glasses). We'd stay here again with no hesitation.
The property was immaculate. The rental was extremely clean and the landscaping was amazing. A nice, quite place with easy access to all the things we wanted to do on the west side of the big island. The owner provided fresh fruit from the trees right there on his property. Absolutely great place to stay. The owner was also extremely helpful providing insights on the island with things to see and do. We followed up on many of their recommendations. Highly recommended.
I cannot praise this place enough! It is centrally located along the Kona coast and within an hour drive of many major landmarks and attractions such as Kailua Kona, Captain Cook Monument, Kona Airport, and the Volcano National Park. The Studio Unit was private, comfortable and beautifully furnished with everything that we needed, as many of the other reviews have already outlined. The surrounding grounds and gardens were absolutely stunning and the view from the back of the house overlooking the beach was breathtaking. Even the driveway leading up to the house was adorned with tons of tropical flowering plants and trees that makes you feel as if you're entering a magical garden! You could tell that the owners, August and Daiva, put their heart and soul into every detail of this place.
Speaking of August and Daiva, you could not find kinder and more accommodating hosts anywhere. They made sure to provide us with everything we needed, including privacy. However, they were readily accessible to chat and provide helpful tips/info about where to go on the island. Don't bother with travel books or websites...they don't measure up to August's extensive knowledge of the island. We had an amazing time by following his recommendations and saved ourselves the time and hassle of doing our own research.
We would recommend this place to anyone who's thinking about visiting Hawaii and will, without a doubt, stay there again when we get the chance to go back.
August and Daiva are exceptional hosts! Beautiful home with amazing scenery and views of the ocean and sunset. Hotels can be very pricey for the island and this is a more than adequate substitute especially for the price. Room comes equipped with small tv, mini fridge, bed, futon, bottled drinking water, body wash, shampoo, 2 beach towels, beach chairs, wifi, and shower. Only drawback is that Captain Cook area is a bit of a drive from Kona; 30-40 minutes each way, so if you plan on stocking up on food or essentials make a list and get it done at WalMart on first trip as gas is $4.30 per gallon average and you don't want to be making extra unnecessary trips to town. Not much as far as dining out anywhere near either. I would recommend utilizing the grill they have available and enjoying your nights at home as traveling the island can consume your entire days and most restaurants close EARLY (8-10) pm even on weekends)?? Also don't book any tours in advance as almost all attractions you can do by yourself for free or minimal cost. August will be more than happy to guide you on your travels as he has lived here 20 years and knows every nook and cranny of the island well.
