Roatan is in the Bay Islands of Honduras and is the best kept secret of Central America. It is like stepping back in time. Please view our new video of the island and the house. Our property is professionally managed by Ruth and Brad of Island House Roatan Management company.
The house includes an outdoor kitchen & beach bar in front of the house with a Napoleon Grill with a searing station, double rotisserie and wood smoking tray. We also utilize a solar array for our hot water needs.
A biodegradable and pet friendly mosquito misting system has been installed and is working with excellent results. The yard has banana, mango, almond, coconut, noni, and various other local fruit trees and the endangered Emerald Hummingbird hangs out quite frequently at the many Hibiscus plants we have and they are not camera shy.
There is an excellent place for children to play in the sand, or let them wade into the water, while you keep an eye on them while you are relaxing in your teak lounger.
This house has two bedrooms upstairs, each with a king bed. The living, kitchen and dining rooms are on the upper level as well with central AC. There are two additional bedrooms downstairs; one with a king bed, the second with two singles, there's a bathroom which joins these two lower level bedrooms. Both rooms have AC.
If four bedrooms is not enough for your group, there is a separate private apartment available that will sleep four to six (two queen beds, a new queen sleeper and 2 foam pads available for children) and has 2 separate AC units.
Our neighbors live in Roatan full time and are right next door for any emergency or help with anything on the island. They are the nicest people you will meet. They help provide security and stability in our neighborhood and are always willing to help out our guests. They can provide fishing charters and are quite knowledgeable about all the local fish.
Yoni, who is our full time caretaker, speaks some English, but his first language is Spanish. He loves to fish and may tell you some of his fishing secrets. He lives on site and maintains the premises and grounds, and provides night time security by living in the rear of the property with his two young children and wife. He makes sure everybody is safe and sound, including our guests.
You can walk down the beach for breakfast and then return to the house, grab your gear and snorkel at one of the worlds nicest beaches, 'West Bay Beach', it is a short walk (1/2 mile) from the house; the diving, snorkeling and sunbathing are excellent here. Or you could snorkel out (400 yards) in front of the house, to the Mesoamerican barrier reef, the worlds second largest barrier reef. The translucant turquoise water's here have a average temperture of 80 F / 27 C. The fishing is excellent for Mahi-Mahi, Yellowfin Tuna, Barracuda, Sailfish and Wahoo, which are very abundant in these waters.
On the walk between the house and West End there are some rock outcroppings that you will have to walk over, or if the tide is out you can walk around them in shallow water. On the walk along the beach to West Bay, there is a metal bridge that you will have to use.
Or if walking isn't for you, just stand on the end of our dock and flag down a water taxi.
After an afternoon of snorkeling, you can walk to town for the evening dinner and night life, then take a cab home, or stay at home and enjoy the beautiful sunset and grill your fresh caught seafood for dinner!
The sunsets are what this house is famous for; it's right on the beach and has a dock and palapa to sit under and sip your drinks while watching the sunset! The warm tropical air and warm water will entice you every time.
Although there is a dock at the house, it is not a private dock. In fact no dock on the island is private. You may find that locals will use it to have a break on their walk between West End and West Bay, they never stay long and are always very friendly.
Local charter companies will schedule a pick up at our dock for any diving, fishing or island adventure excursions you may have.
If you are not renting a car, the property managers can arrange your ride from/to the airport (which is recommended). At the time you make these arrangements they will let you know the cost. Otherwise, there are always taxis waiting at the airport and you can negotiate you own fare. If you do decide to rent a vehicle, it is recommended that you rent a 4 wheel drive vehicle, due to the road being in poor condition during the rainy season. Remember there are no house numbers of street names on the island, so at times the taxis will need some directions to the house.
We have just added, for rent a 13' Hobie Cat Wave sailboat.
Our large local grocery stores are going green - they've recently stopped using plastic bags. We recommend you bring some re-usable shopping bags with you.
Please come and visit us in Roatan, Honduras. Your next adventure to fun and sun!
