This attractive condo is a second floor unit at the end of the block in Caballeros Estates. There is no unit above it so that it enjoys a high, sloping ceiling, giving an unusual sense of space for a one-bedroom apartment. It also has a remarkably large patio (effectively a large outdoor room) looking down over the attractive gardens with an avenue of mature palm trees and one of the two main pools, with a private staircase leading down directly from the patio to the pools and the poolside entertaining areas. When not outside enjoying a starry night on the patio, guests can snuggle up by the gas fire with a cocktail from the condo's wet bar.

There is a Sony 40' flat screen TV and we have changed the sofa for a comfortable sofa bed, so that you can accommodate family and friends for a night or two. The condo was redecorated in 2014, the old carpet replaced by attractive tiles, and the bedroom has been refurnished (yet to be photographed).

Other improvements include a new oven range with a ceramic hotplate and a new dishwasher. We have also installed a steel security door so that the front door can be left open, allowing a fresh through draught to better air the apartment.

The Caballeros Estates is well-established with magnificent, mature palm trees shading its beautiful gardens. The Estate is not a big one and the people in the units are remarkably welcoming and friendly.

The Estate is one of the best-positioned in all of Palm Springs, within easy walking distance of the shops, galleries and many varied restaurants of Palm Canyon Drive and the most historic heart of old Palm Springs. Other attractions that are within about a quarter of an hour's comfortable walk are two movie theaters, the Annenberg Theater, the Palm Springs Art Museum, , the Spa Casino, the Palm Springs Convention Center, Palm Springs Farmer's Market, Palm Springs Street Fair, the Plaza Racquet Club (a friendly tennis club open to the public), and the Palm Springs Public Library, among many others. There are two shopping centers with supermarkets and other stores each only half a mile distant. And, it being Palm Springs, there are of course many golf courses only a short drive away.

The condo is only a mile and a half (a very short cab ride) from the airport, though not under the flight path. A covered parking place comes with the unit, but it is not really necessary to have a car as everything is so easily accessible on foot or by bicycle. But with two main pools and two other pools and several spas within complex's beautiful grounds, one hardly has to leave.

Caballeros Estate is not accessible to the public: it is a gated community - but it is easy for guests to find you.

My name is Charlotte Duplay. I bought the unit with my Australian parents in 2010 when they were in Palm Springs visiting me, my husband Adam, my small daughter Camilla and my dog Elwood Jones. As our house is a bit small for my parents to stay with us now that we have a family, my parents stay in the Caballeros condo themselves when they are here. They love Palm Springs lifestyle and the condo with its wonderfully convenient location. I work part-time as a curatorial assistant at the Palm Springs Art Museum. My husband, Adam Duplay, is a freelance film producer and editor. We live in Palm Springs.

My parents and I loved the condo at first sight. Not just for its brilliant location and the lovely gardens and pools it overlooks, but because it felt right, comfortable and cozy, yet with a feeling of space because of its high ceiling and exceptionally large terrace balcony. It was also very well furnished and equipped.

Noisy, not peaceful...

The things I am about to (reluctantly) mention in this review are for the information of future travellers, and things which the owners cannot necessarily do anything about.
Caballeros Estates is indeed a gated community, but the part which this condo is in, is not gated with reference to parking, this was an unexpected stress as we did worry about our vehicle being next to a dumpster, which was visited frequently during the night by dumpster-divers, as this is also situated right under your bedroom window you also lost sleep to this activity.
There is a lot of reno work going on in this complex, we eventually comlained to the owners, and to the property managers, and were informed that it is ok in Palm Springs to carry out construction/reno work from earlynmorning to late in evening. This was our experience, drills, bandsaws, banging, plus a lot of unecessary noise throwing debris into our dumpster(!) This condo is very small (600sq feet) and the outdoor space is in permanent shade, something to note if you want to sit in the sun, you have to go down to the pool area. If you, like us, would rather avoid dealing with what I have described on your long awaited vacation, I would recommend finding a newer rental, with secured parking, and sunny outdoor space, wish we had...

Owner's Response: Our guests were very unfortunate in that noisy renovations happened to be taking place in a nearby condo, putting the dumpster into heavy use. Later in the season this would be very unusual.
It is not true that the large deck is always in shade. It does face east, though, so that it gets more sun in the morning than the afternoon. We can easily provide photos to show sun on the deck. And a shady deck can be an advantage, given the strength of Palm Springs' sun!

This was our first stay in Palm Springs. We really enjoyed the month of November. It was quiet and still warm. The Caballeros Estates is a beautiful and we'll maintained complex. The salt water pool was nicely heated and we used it daily. The complex is within walking distance to restaurants and downtown. The unit itself was well equipment. The gas fireplace was perfect for cool evenings. We will be staying at Caballeros Estates again next year!

Enjoyed our stay

We really enjoyed our stay in this condo. We found that it was well equipped and clean. The master bed was very comfortable and the large deck off the main room was shaded in the afternoon. It would be difficult to find a nicer inner court in Palm Springs with two salt water pools with towering palm trees that made it the place to be. We found that we didn't need to rent a car because of it's central location. The owners were very accommodating. Thanks Charlotte and David. We would book again,Jeff and jackie

Lovely Property

There were definitely no surprises! We found the condo very much as was described on the website and were thankful for that.

Location information was first rate and easily tracked on the internet. The security features were very good.

The photos were accurate and much appreciated. The cleanliness of the unit was excellent. The manual for the operation of all the equipment was very well done as well.

The owner was very diligent in responding to any queries that we called or emailed about!

We definitely would recommend this unit to all and sundry that might ask us about it.
The location was totally walkable to downtown Palm Springs and that was very much a plus as we like to roam. We found the surroundings to be very safe and we had no cause to worry about our security at any hour in the neighborhoods surrounding the condo.

The fireplace was an excellent feature in the condo, December was a little cool and we appreciated having a nice fire.

Great complex

My husband and I stayed at this condo for three months (Feb to Apr) and enjoyed every minute of it. The location is ideal--within walking distance of downtown, grocery store, library, ball park, theatre, etc. You don't need a car unless you want to venture further afield. The owners were delightful--helpful and thoughtful. Comfortable bed, great patio, lovely grounds. We really enjoyed the gas fireplace during those cool nights in February. We wanted to return to the condo in 2013; unfortunately, someone beat us to it, but we expect to be back in 2014. Many thanks, Charlotte, David and Jean.

great getaway

We would definately like to visit again. Had a wonderful time in this cozy yet spacious condo. It was clean and tastefully decorated. All essentials were provided, the bed was very comfy. The grounds are beautiful, the private staircase to the pool and hot tub was a real plus. We enjoyed walking to the nearby restaurants and shopping.
