The Owner purchased this house in 1996
A beautiful home that is spacious, comfortable, wonderfully located and family friendly. We knew this was the one within five minutes after seeing it!
Two living areas make it perfect for large or multiple families. It is very rare for a home in this area to contain a large, flat backyard and families and kids take advantage of it year after year! Two decks overlooking the ZigZag river are also a favorite.
We spent 4 wonderful days at this beautiful chalet. This is exactly what anybody would want in a mountain getaway, the kitchen has everything you need for any meal, there are 2 living rooms (one with a fireplace and one with a wood stove). The master bedroom is very comfortable with the hot tub just outside the door (lots of fun in the snow). The other bedrooms appear to be just as comfortable. The view of the Zig Zag River is beautiful from the decks as well as beautiful to listen to from the hot tub. Just a very short ride to Ski Bowl where we were able to enjoy ourselves both snow tubing and the lounge. We just returned and have already scheduled a girls weekend getaway.
Spent a great 4 days at this huge cabin. Enjoyed everything about this place, the kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, dishes and utensils. Plenty of fire wood, comfy couches decent beds. Pete was so ready to work with! Will definitely be staying here again.
WE had the most wonderful peaceful place to stay here. Best Chalet I ever rented. Pete was great to work with and very helpful with everything. My favorite place was the hammock by the Zigzag River. It's awesome.
I'm a little late in writing this review, but had to post one, late or not.
We spent Christmas 2013 at this property with our children and grandchildren.
Lovely property with room for all of us to spread out. We had a huge Christmas
tree and lots of decorations. The wood stove helped keep the house warm and
toasty. We like the fact that the house can be shut off into two "halves' to give
multiple families privacy. There are some minor maintenance issues such as loose
tiles and organization of the kitchen that need to be taken care of, but all in all a great
place where some great memories were made. (The Christmas tree fell down and
had to be put back up.) I'd do it again. Peter, the owner, was four-star. Friendly and
helpful in every way.
I headed out to the Zigzag River Chalet for a weekend with some fellow grad students, just looking for a few days away from the stresses of work.
What a fantastic house! The photos don't do it justice. I was really surprised by the size, too. It was divided into two sections so folks who needed a break could wander off and have quiet time. People were also able to get some work done; the wifi worked great. The kitchen was big enough for all of us to cook and serve meals without running into each other. It was also very well stocked with everything we could possibly need: coffee, electric griddle, spice rack, firewood, laundry detergent. Even things like band-aids and toothpicks. It also had tons of towels and blankets, as well as the world's most comfortable leather couches.
Something like 1.5 feet of snow fell while we were there, and the setting was absolutely gorgeous. My friends enjoyed a nice 2-hour hike in the snow while I sat all nice and cozy by one of the three (!!!) fireplaces watching the Olympics. The hot tub was great in the snow, too. Note that if you visit when it's snowing, tire chains are probably a good idea since it's nestled in the woods.
Pete was great to work with. Very friendly and easy to get in touch with. He texted me the evening we arrived saying that he would extend our stay by a day, free of charge, because the snow may have inhibited our ability to get there and he didn't want us to get short-changed. We also left a pair of gloves there, and he's mailing them back to us for free. What a cool guy.
We started planning a trip back before we even left. It was a great value that even a bunch of poor grad students could afford and we all went back to the city relaxed and refreshed.
10/10, absolutely will stay here again. Couldn't have asked for more. Thanks Pete and Beth!
The listing description sounded wonderful, the photos beautiful, but we found the cabin offered so much more than could be pictured/described in the advertisement. Zigzag River Chalet is an outstanding, inviting home away from home, located in one of the best settings on Mt Hood. It was beautifully decorated with comfortable leather couches and chairs, and many unexpected touches. The beds were all very comfortable with quality mattresses and bedding and the sleeping areas allowed privacy and seclusion for the 5 of us. We spent more time in this cabin than during all our other trips to the mountain. And I would agree that a much larger group would also experience the same feeling of privacy and room to spread out. While it rained during our stay, it only served to enhanced the beauty of the location. We spent our time cooking great meals, playing games, enjoying the Zigzag river views and touring the area. The property was clean and well maintained and the owner helpful in answering our questions and concerns. We felt reassured in the fact that the owners would be available should any problems arise. While the rest of the family slept late, my husband and I enjoyed getting out early and visiting the little restaurant at the intersection of Hwy 26 and Lolo Pass Road for coffee and their $4.00 breakfast (the best bargain in town for a delicious breakfast). We would definitely recommend this propery to our friends and relatives and plan to return at our first opportunity.
