Loved Paris - Third visit to Paris - but confusion abounds!

We booked for 7 nights in early September 2010. Myself, my husband, my son and his partner shared the apartment which was near the Pompidou Centre, short walk to Notre Dame. The apartment was on the first floor of a block and was well equipped with a dishwasher, microwave cook top and a washing machine/dryer in the combined living/kitchen area, however space was extremely limited, to access one of the kitchen cupboards the table had to be moved. The owners advertised that the space was suitable for 2 - 6 people, we think only 2. The 2 bedrooms both had a double bed and were separated using large sliding doors which do not reach the ceiling and therefore only allow for limited privacy. The 2nd bedroom was very airless with no window, but a small fan had been provided. The first bedroom directly off the lounge/kitchen area also did not have a window and was divided from the lounge by another sliding door. The only window in the apartment was faced out to a light well and was overlooked by other apartments. The bathroom was screened off directly from the kitchen/lounge by an opaque screen which barely allowed for privacy. The toilet had another glass screen door which proved too difficult to close at all! My son and his partner arrived the night before us and found that only 2 bath sized towels & 2 hand towels had been supplied (The Rental Agreement states "1 Bath Towel per person). He emailed the owner to ask for 2 more bath towels - 1 each for my husband and I. The next day 2 more 'hand' towels were supplied (we'd had to make do with hand towels for one night), so I emailed the owner apologized for bothering him again and explained there had been some confusion and that we still needed 2 more bath towels and to collect the extra hand towels. I received a very curt reply in which the owner refused to supply 2 normal bath towels saying 2 large and 4 'normal' (read hand) towels & one bath mat was enough for 4 people!. My husband is 6' 2" tall (1.88976m) and I am 5' 2", we are both average weight, the towels supplied for us measured 47cm x 96cm (bath towels measure 75 x 150cm). So for a week we both dried ourselves with hand sized towels! We thought it was reasonable to expect one bath sized towel, plus one hand sized towel per person, but apparently not because the owner would not budge! Lesson being, check the size of accommodation and supply of 'bath' sized towels per person. We would not stay here again!
Owner's Response: We were a little bit surprise when we received this message.
I didn't met Mr and Mrs Paul & Gaynor at their arrival or departure, I met just their sons and answered at all their question. They were absolutly enthousiaste about their stay in the apartment.
We welcome customer in this apartment since 6 years without any problems.
This apartment is a modern space. I understand that it is not suitable for everyone.
For the towels We preparre 2 towels by person one large and one normal.
it is specified in the contract that "For more linen and sheet, to do the demand before your arrival."
We did not receive demand for that but we came back to add towels without any additional fee.
