Nice location, poor customer relations
We have rented more than a dozen times through vrbo & always had a pleasant experience. This vacation was also off to a great start. Although the owner specifies 7 night min, we were lucky she accommodated our 5 day stay. The building is located within an easy walk to the ferry & Oak Bluff attractions. The ocean views were phenomenal- Ink Well beach is literally out the front door! The agency that manages the rental was very responsive & helpful-- even on the holiday. The downside is that the road out front has loud traffic at all hours. As there is no air conditioning, & in the summer you'll need every window open & every fan blowing, it can be very difficult to sleep (or hold a conversation at times!). I trust it was in our rental agreement that they do not provide any linens, but we didn't realize until we arrived. Be sure to make arrangements! This was one of the situations in which the rental agency was outstanding: they put us in contact with a linen company that delivered everything to our door within two hours. Unfortunately things took a bad turn at the very end. Check out is 10:30a and our ferry didn't leave the island until 2p. The day before leaving, we called the rental agency to see if/where we could leave our bags in the interim. They referred us directly to the owner who said there wasn't a place for the bags but we could have until 11a. Apparently this was a big misunderstanding. She must have meant we could leave our luggage for an extra 30 minutes? Because the next morning, at exactly 10:30a, the owner was at the door demanding we leave immediately. We had almost everything packed, but it was very frantic & embarrassing having her standing outside the front door, glaring & yelling about paying her cleaning staff by the hour. I've never stayed in any rental setting (hotel, motel, vrbo) where I was treated so rudely. We were out and on the street by 10:45a-- with voicemail messages & emails from the rental agency inquiring as to why we had not vacated on time (!). Granted, they must run a tight schedule in the high season. But we had called the day before & honestly thought she gave us another 30min. And this was not a cheap rental. For what we paid, a hotel or b&b would have been more comfortable & accommodating. Oh well. Martha's Vineyard was lovely. We'll look forward to returning, & while we won't hesitate to rent from the agency again, there is no way I will ever rent from this particular owner.
