We were a 2 family group (4 adults and 4 teens) that stayed here for 11 days over Christmas and New Years. This home was airy and spacious for a group our size, and had an "old Hawaiin" feel to it. We enjoyed having the large kitchen to "group cook" in. Really enjoyed the novelty of the outdoor shower but the indoor shower was nice and spacious and clean too. No problems getting enough hot water. Sitting outside to breakfast was lovely. Ate suppers inside at the large round dining table - all the screens made it possible to feel the breeze and hear the ocean. Used the BBQ often. We were out all day usually at nearby snorkeling venues or farther North (1 - 1 1/2 hour drive) to the fabulous surfing beaches. Lots of fans and screened windows kept the whole house very comfortable. Many of the bedroom walls do not extend completely up to the ceiling so this keeps the air circulating but is not as sound proof. The neighbourhood was quiet but friendly. New Years eve was fun with many people out in the neighbourhood lighting off fireworks. A very relaxing setting. The owners are kind, thoughtful and good communicators.

Wow! We were thrilled by our experience with this house. The location is superb -- a walk of only 100 feet to Kealakekua Bay, and the best snorkeling on the Big Island. The house is roomy and clean, and the big screen windows allow you to enjoy the tropical breezes, the rumbling surf, and the morning bird calls. The house was plenty roomy for our family of six: two family rooms, the dining room, and patio gave everyone enough space to spread out comfortably. The grounds are a well-manicured garden, and some of our best moments were spent just lounging on the patio. This was a perfect "base camp" for our excursions around the island, including deep-sea fishing, the City of Refuge, the Painted Church, and the volcanoes. A very nice touch was the fruit basket, including pineapple, that awaited us upon arrival. We are already planning our return visit for this time next year. Mahalo!!!

Our New Home in Paradise

If you are like me, and enjoy a nice vacation, but in a location where you can bring the family, including the young kids, and go on adventures at your own pace, then you need to consider staying in this wonderful Hawaii gem. This is our second time vacationing there with our family, and we brought more with us for our second visit (my wife, myself, and our 4 and 2 year olds), our close friends (another couple with a 3 year old) and other members of my wife’s family (4 others). There were 11 of us total in this house and there was plenty of room still. Besides the 4 bedrooms mentioned, there is a twin bed in a nook area downstairs, as well as 2 hide-a-beds and a futon mattress available for additional guests. All bedding was clean, and towels were provided as well with a fully stocked linen closet. Additionally there is a washer and dryer there so we were able to do laundry if we wanted to. There is also wifi for internet and television, but if you are like me, I turned off all my devices, kept the television off, and unplugged for the duration of our stay. It was paradise!
We decided to stay here because we wanted to have the freedom and flexibility to do what activities when we wanted to, and without having everything set in stone. We had some planned group activities (going to Hilo for a day, doing the volcano state park and seeing the active lava flow that night, traveling to black sands beach, spending half of a day a green sands beach, and other local beaches, etc.), as well as some individual activities of our own (playing in the tide pools, leisurely snorkeling whenever we wanted, swimming with the local dolphins in the nearby bay, deep sea fishing charters, shopping in Kona, visiting the painted church,** the place of refuge - a must see!!**, hitting many of the local flavor restaurants, etc.) , and this home facilitated all of these activities perfectly. Because of where it is positioned, you are a stone throw to Napoopoo state park, where you can spend time sitting at the picnic tables, reading a book, and feeling the fresh ocean breeze, all while enjoying local grown fruits and world famous local grown fresh Kona coffee.
The home is affordable, able to accommodate a larger group than the other homes around, it is clean, and relaxing. We were able to go to Costco and Wal-Mart, and also hit many of the local fruit stands to enable us to stock the home with food to enjoy home cooked meals when we wanted, and use the grill right on the patio. We were there for only a week and that was a mistake. Next time we'll stay for a 2 to 3 weeks!
Dolphins in the bay made swimming out to them a truly amazing experience, watching the jump, spin and play all around you is a breath taking fun. There is a hiking trail not far away which takes you down to the Captain Cook Monument and more fantastic skin diving in the clearest water I've ever seen. The beach by the house is small but rather private and and very nice. It allow easy access to the fine coral reefs where we saw turtles almost every day and an abundance of tropical fish.

The house it's self was very comfortable with 4 bedrooms upstairs and another bed downstairs. the kitchen was well equipped and there was even a coffee grinder for making Kona coffee ever morning. The next time we'll invite friend as it is so spacious roomy.

Best of all was the private outside shower. We never use the inside shower. The outside shower is surrounded by mango and a kind of grapefruit tree. We picked some and also some papayas from the yard and they were delicious. The yard was like a golf course with more beautiful draping trees covered with flowers.

My family and friends booked this house not knowing what to expect. Come to find out, this was a perfect location and a great house. You wake up to the most beautiful sounds of thousands of birds, walk down to the beach only 100 feet away and go snorkeling in one of the best spots on the island (we went to a bunch of places and the best was a walk away). After a long day, if you wanted to hit the beach up one last time, you didn't have to worry about driving a ways to enjoy just sitting there looking out in the ocean or jumping in the water for a swim. The best part is it's perfect for all ages. We ranged from 2 years old up to the late 50's. If you want to drive to some other beaches, the really nice beaches are easily within a 15 minute drive. We went around the whole island hitting up many beaches but the few we liked the most again were the closest beaches. We stayed one night on the other side of the island and we're glad to come back to this location for sure. You really can't beat the pricing and location. We stayed 10 days and we're very sad to leave.
