Spectacular vacation!! Thank you so much for the memories. Beautiful condo, sunsets, snorkeling and our very own cooking!! Can't wait to return this March!!
We stayed at #31 and could not have been happier. The condo is very clean, spacious, and comfortable. It felt like home. The location is absolutely fantastic! It was steps away from the beach and tranquil waters. We are familiar with Cayman Islands and this section of beach is by far the calmest we found on the island. Its great for kids- we have two. Also, being at Rum Point, we were steps away from two restaurants and the boat dock. I definitely will be back to the Retreat.
This was our first visit to the Cayman Islands and against some advice to stay on SMB (because we have 3 active sons ages 11-16) we decided to stay on the quieter side. We were all thrilled with that decision! The pictures online of the Retreat sold me--I wanted to be right on the point and walk right onto the beach--which is exactly how it was. Karen was great to work with and provided excellent information and suggestions prior to arriving. The condo itself was wonderfully clean and stocked with everything we needed and more. The third bed, made and ready for one of our boys in the second bedroom was a very nice extra touch. Having the restaurant, the wreck beach bar and red sail sports right next door was awesome and we used all of it daily. I just can't say enough about the wonderful location of the Retreat. None of use wanted to leave the point because it had everything we needed included awesome snorkeling, our own stingray and sea turtle encounters, bioluminescence in the bay, starfish beach and fun beach bbq's. Wonderful, wonderful place to stay.
My family and I have stayed at this condo for three years now. We love Grand Cayman and we love staying at this location on Rum Point. It's the perfect balance of peace and activity. The condo is well cared for and provides all the necessities required to make it an excellent stay. We highly recommend and look forward to returning next year!
In our second time staying at The Retreat, this time we thought we'd try a unit on the first floor, which opens right out to the beach side. Thinking it would be hard to surpass the previous stay, we were quickly swayed. The owner was very helpful, and although we had experienced the area before, her welcome packet was exceptionally detailed and useful. The unit itself was outfitted well with all the trappings of home. Loved the beach towels. We fixed many a meal in the kitchen, and I thought we'd wear out the blender with all the tropical drinks.
We stayed 11 days in paradise. There is no other word to describe that part of the island. Every night we experienced a natural fireworks show as the sun set behind the pier. We would sit feet in the sand just steps from the patio. Armed with a new underwater camera, I snorkeled the reefs off the north shore and was not disappointed by the variety of tropical fish. Many of them would swim right up to me and hamm for the camera, aparently unafraid. Our kids are all older now and in their 20's; they also thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I will definitely be back.
We vacation at Cayman every year at this time- usually at one of the seven mile beach hotels. That said, with 4 and 8 year old boys, hotel started feeling cramped. Since we always spend most of our time at rum point anyway, we decided to book this fantastic place. Lots of space, well appointed.... Amazing location literally steps from beach. Great snorkeling right off the property. Loved sitting on the north side of the point and decompressing with a few Havana clubs everyday. It really doesn't get much better than this. The family that owns this place is so accommodating... Wow... Better rebook for this winter so we will have something to look forward to.
After reading the great reviews this place gets our expectations were really high and it did not dissapoint. Karen really makes it easy with the packet and suggestions prior to arriving. The condo was very clean and she truly has thought of every need. Kitchen has about every utensil you will need, there are lots of beach towels, T paper, bug spray, etc. The place feels very home like. The location really is great. The bar is truly right next door but closes by 7p so it is very quiet and relaxing. My two boys (5 and 7) would get up every morning with their Papa and walk on the pier seeing lots of fish and stingrays and chasing crabs. Great memories for them. We walked down the road to the public beach which is about 600-700 yards.....and snorkled back. We saw ton's of fish and great gardens of coral. The snorkeling is great as you end up right in front of the condo. Highly recommend taking Karen's advise on water shoes for the beach in front of the condo. Lots of rocks and coral. We really enjoyed Tukkas to eat as their lion fish tacos are incredible. Kurts Corner is a must as this is where the locals eat and the food is great and the price is less expensive. It is not on the beach so we got take out a few times and ate back at the condo. I would recommend going over to Kaibo for the stingray city tour as it is about 1/2 the price vs if you book it right next door to the condo. Plus the boat is smaller and he only takes 10-12 people at a time. Also takes you snorkeling after visiting the sting rays. Rum Point is truly a great place to stay as it is much sleeper than Seven Mile Beach. It does get somewhat active for lunch time as a few cruise passengers show up but they are generally there for 2-4 hrs. The only place we thought the food was just ok was at the ShipWreck. Pricey and just not that great of food. Have someone run up to Kurt's and bring it back. The only thing I would change is outside the condo they had the grass area roped off as they were trying to grow sod. My boys would have loved to throw the ball or kick a soccer ball there but could not. This just means it will be that much nicer when we return!!!!! This truly is a wonderful place to be with your family if you like something a little more layed back. Also Starfish point was fun as we were the only people there for 2 hrs.
