Although retired, the term REFOCUSED is a better description. This is a second home. A lot of love and energy was put into it, and I am excited to share it with you as my family refocuses on new adventures throughout the world. Most impressive was the exclusive, laid back and private feel of the island, yet so close to the hustle-and-bustle and high-culture of Naples. The scenery is spectacular, the beaches pristine and the environment relaxed and family friendly. Marco has all the amenities of major Florida resorts, but without the traffic congestion are worry of issues to deal with in a larger city. Yet all the conveniences are here in walking or biking distances. No place on Marco is furthur than a 10 minute drive!
Going to the beach, fish, boat, dine, shop and relax... and periodically make the 25-minute drive to Naples to enjoy live theater and symphonies.
The beautifully decorated apartment has floor to ceiling windows all the way around, providing constant views of the changing skyscape. Every morning, we awoke to the sunrise from our bed. Every evening, we made sure we were home in time to watch the sunset performance from the comfort of the west lanai. The ospreys, pelicans, and magnificent frigates entertained us as they sailed by at eye level all day long.
The luxurious space was perfect for our extended family gathering to celebrate my mother-in-law's 80th birthday. The two master bedrooms and bathrooms are huge. The other two rooms are more normally sized, and share a full bathroom. We ate most meals outside, where there is a large dining table, as well as a small high top table for lunch or breakfast. We easily cooked Thanksgiving dinner in the fully equipped kitchen.
We have been to the Fort Myers area four times. Marco is more casual than Naples, yet has great restaurants. The grocery store is less than a mile away and had pretty much everything we needed. We often rode our bikes to get around the island. And, there are several very good restaurants within walking distance of the penthouse. We went to the Marriott a few times for the experience of being waited on beachside. We kayaked on Tigertail beach, rented a pontoon at the nearby Marina, and took a sailboat ride another day. Compared with Sanibel, Marco is more built-up, but has beautiful beaches and more activities for kids. We did spend a day biking on Sanibel. We also went to the Everglades and to Corkscrew Sanctuary. And, of course, the guys enjoyed a few days of golf.
I am struggling to find something negative to say to provide a credible critique. I have to say that it was expensive. And, Marco Island was populated with more seniors than I expected.
Steve could not have been more helpful or responsive. Months after we left, we found out that some of our mail was still being forwarded to the apartment. Steve went out of his way to get it to us while we waited for the postal service to catch up with us.
We are grateful to have had the chance to enjoy our family in such a gorgeous place. Thank you, Steve, for sharing your home.
My wife and I were totally satisfied with this beautiful penthouse, both with its' appearance and the functions and services available to us. We had several guests while there and the condo easily accommodated everyone comfortably. We found the vrbo description accurate and the photos were perfect renderings of what to expect. The unit is large and accommodating and very nicely decorated and appointed. The broad, long water views from the large balconies are fantastic and include sightings of dolphins, manatees, sea turtles and we even spotted a school of rays swimming through. The condo was presented to us in great shape and has clearly been well maintained. The building is maintained beautifully and building amenities are wonderful. It's a very livable place. It is sophisticated yet simple, quiet and very private for a condo building. Everyone we met was friendly and conversational. The owner was totally responsive anytime we needed something. We enjoyed the island so much we concluded our trip by buying our own home there. We would highly recommend Pier 81 and this condo in particular.
As impressive as the photos, visual tour and description of the Penthouse were on the internet, it was even more impressive in person. Vacationing there exceeded our extremely high expectations. Absolutely everything about the Penthouse was fabulous! It was immaculate, beautifully appointed and the water views were spectacular especially at night with all the twinkling lights.
The owner invited us on his 52 foot yacht to tour the Island. He surprised us with driving by my 84 year old mother’s beach front condo with all of us waving! We were so appreciative of his kindness.
He was personally there upon our arrival and explained all the important details to ensure we had a trouble free vacation. He always immediately answered any and all questions we had during our stay. The owner, not only went way above and beyond what was required, he became a lifetime family friend. He is a man of integrity!
