My parents and their ancestors settled in this beautiful Norwegian Valley.

My husband and I were lucky enough to meet the owner, Joyce, who told us about Timber Coulee Cottage... how fortuitous for us! We were able to escape from our busy lives for a wonderful weekend in February... it was a cold, blustery weekend, but all the better to have a cute, cozy cottage to cuddle up in! We so enjoyed relaxing in front of the gas fireplace watching TV, sitting in the sun out in the sunroom with a good book (or two), and cooking in the well-supplied kitchen! We also have a rental so it was very helpful to see what a great job Joyce and her family have done with the cottage... the remodeling was very well-done, the fish-themed decorating was fun, and everything was well-taken care of and clean! We did get a chance to explore the area too... there were many interesting antique stores to check out, as well as great restaurants! Our favorite was the Tangled Hickory Wine Bar in Viroqua!
We definitely will come back to Timber Coulee Cottage, but although the winter was cozy, we will try the summer next time, as we both love fishing! Thanks so much Joyce, for the excellent job that you have done in creating this wonderful country getaway!
Our car dipped into the coulee while the theme from "Lord of the Rings" was playing on the radio on a beautiful cloudless fall day, and it could have not been more fitting. It seemed my wife and I had entered the Shire and we were enthralled. We were even more enchanted by the cottage and the setting. The rains came the following day; the mist floated along the ridge tops and the cows at the nearby dairy farm alternated between standing and lying on the ground. The trout stream swelled with the rains and the fireplace swept away any chill in the air. The south facing windows afforded the most bucolic views of this magical place. The pristine comforts of the cottage supported all our needs. If you are looking for an amazing retreat for a weekend or longer, this is the place. We plan to return again and again regardless of the season.
My family and I love the Timber Coulee Cottage! It's been a year since our last visit, but since then we've tried other cabins for long weekends and while they were nice, we always say, "Timber Coulee is still my favorite!" For my husband, it's the famous trout stream that is right outside the cabin door. He can't wait to go back during trout season to try his luck! For my girls (they were 8 & 4), they loved the bunk beds inside and the hammock outside, looking for the neighboring farm's bull, doing crafts on the sun porch, and hanging out in the screened-in porch (it was late October, so it was chilly!). For me, I loved everything about it! The decor is the best I've seen yet. You should see all the pictures we took for ideas to bring home - it's that pretty. I loved cooking in the kitchen and the girls & I worked all weekend putting together one of their puzzles. The fire pit was in a nice location with a great view and the girls had fun collecting fire wood from the shed. The Weber Q that was provided made me want to buy one when we got home! Everything was so clean and fresh, and bright and sunny. As you can see, I can't wait to go back. :) We stayed in the cabin most of the time but next time we'll try to get out and see more of the area (if I can talk myself into leaving). If I have any cons, I would mention our cell phone reception was spotty, but they have a land line for local calls and provide free Wifi that worked well when we needed it. And I would like to take walks right from the cabin, but we didn't feel comfortable enough on the surrounding roads to do so. However, there are so many opportunities for walking in the area that we'll do our homework to find something nearby before returning. Thank you Joyce for sharing this wonderful cottage and for telling us about the fun things to do in the area with our girls, like Gouhlies in the Coulees. We look forward to our return to your cabin and to the Driftless area!
Timber Coulee Cottage is absolutely wonderful! My husband went fly fishing and I was going to catch up on my reading, but I did not even crack open my book. The views out of the screened in porch was too beautiful to pass up. The towns were charming, the people were friendly, the birds were beautiful and the cottage was a gem. Joyce was very helpful in booking our stay, we are already planning a return trip. The Driftless Area of Vernon County is a Wisconsin Paradise.
Wonderful cottage with everything you might need for a quiet getaway. My husband, son , and I enjoyed this lovely, updated cottage for a weekend in the Spring and hope to return sometime in the Fall.
There is a trout stream along the property and my son caught 2 trout which we ate for breakfast.
We enjoyed the screened in porch from which we could watch the numerous song birds and enjoy the valley view.
The kitchen was fully equipped and easy to use - sometimes it's nice to stay home and cook even on vacation.
