Hiawassee lies cradled in the heart of the Chattahoochee National Forest and Nantahala National Forest which together make up almost 2 million acres. The Chattahoochee National Forest consists of 750,000 acres and includes 10 wilderness areas, 2,200 miles of rivers and trout streams, numerous waterfalls, and a hiker's paradise with over 450 miles of trails. Hiawassee is home to Hiawassee Antique Mall, the largest antique mall in North Georgia. Hiawassee is also on the Georgia Wine Trail in Georgia Wine Country. The Georgia Wine Trail consists of 14 wineries of which 8 are located within 30 to 45 minutes.
