Located a short distance from highway 128 on 20 acres with meadows, stream, game and forest, this quiet, modern cottage is a retreat from the bustle of city life. In the heart of the Anderson Valley vineyards, this is a perfect place to rest and rejuvenate. We built this cottage for ourselves in 2009 and now we are willing to share it with those singles or couples who desire a place not too far away, but like another world of peace and quiet. The cottage is about 15 minutes from Boonville, a few miles north of Philo; we are very near both Hendy Woods and Navarro Redwood State parks. The property is surrounded by a great many wine tasting rooms and craft studios. It is close to the Mendocino coast – and yet secluded. There is swimming in the nearby Navarro River. The Anderson Valley is much warmer then the coast, but we are a short drive (through the redwoods) to the charms and restaurants of Mendocino, Elk, Little River and Albion. Shopping and restaurants are found in nearby in Philo and historic Boonville. Fresh and organic fruit and vegetables are available in season (as close as the orchard on the property and Blue Meadows Farm next door).
The cottage is new, modern, with all amenities and supplies. We share the acreage with a 4 bedroom geodesic dome vacation home that belongs to our daughter and her family, but there is plenty of privacy for all. We have a barbeque, a picnic table, a full kitchen with dishwasher, dishes and utensils. There is one bedroom, a full bath with separate tub and shower and a living-dining room with fireplace with gas fire, wifi, a TV for DVDs only, and a radio-CD player with a large, eclectic collection of CDs. The cottage is very eco-friendly, being made of structurally integrated panels (which keep the house warm in the winter and cool in the summer), with solar electricity and radiant heating. The property has a fruit orchard. Mill Creek runs through the land very near the cottage, there is a gazebo in the shade on the creek and a suspension bridge across the creek.

We first fell in love with the rural charm of the Anderson Valley about 15 years ago. The slower pace of life, the opportunity to stop for a casual conversation with fellow Valley dwellers, and the physical beauty hooked us. We love the grazing sheep, apple orchards, and vineyards. The rolling hills, native oaks, and majestic redwoods seal the deal. After many years of short stays in the Valley, in 2007 we set out to build our own place. We worked with Toby Long Associates and CleverHomes in San Francisco on the design, and local Valley craftsmen for the construction, which was completed in 2009. We're thrilled and love the Valley and our Cottage a little more each time we stay.

The Anderson Valley is both beautiful and relatively uncrowded and unspoiled. It is restful, but never boring. It offers a wide variety of activities to suit most tastes. We rely on the Laughing Dog Bookstore in Boonville, the Anderson Valley Advertiser, a weekly newspaper, and KZYX, the local radio station, which have information about local events. You don’t want to miss out on a bake sale!
The Cottage is ideally situated. It’s convenient to highway 128, which gets you quickly to Philo, Navarro, Gowan’s, the Apple Farm, and wineries, with Boonville only a bit further away. At the same time, it’s quiet and far enough off the highway that we frequently see wild turkeys, quail, woodpeckers, deer, etc. If you keep an eye out, you might also see the fish that are slowly returning to Mill Creek, thanks to conservation efforts. We can work at the Cottage (wifi, fax and phone) and stay relaxed. This is important to us
