We rent our quiet, owner-built wood-frame house at an affordable rate to vacationers looking to enjoy summer winter and fall activities in rural New Hampshire. The house is located just 5 minutes from Purity Spring and King Pine, wonderful family-oriented and family-owned four-season resorts. We are also about 25 minutes from North Conway, famous for its shopping, restaurants, year-round sports and multiple outdoor activities.
In the summer tenants will enjoy swimming on Freedom's Loon Lake, just minutes away from the house. Boating enthusiasts will have access to public launching sites on the many lakes situated close by. Since Freedom is right on the Maine/New Hampshire border, Portland, Maine and nearby ocean beaches are but a short drive away. Hikers will love the proximity of the White Mountains for day and overnight hikes.
In the winter King Pine Ski Area is but a 5-minute drive away, and is renowned for family winter fun. The house is 25 minutes from Cranmore Resort Ski Area in North Conway, another great choice for families. In nearby towns Attitash, Black Mountain and Wildcat Ski Areas offer challenging skiing as well as summer activities.
The house sits amidst 70 acres of woods which tenants are welcome to enjoy any time of the year. The interior, simply but comfortably furnished, features cathedral ceilings and rustic planed-wood paneling. The kitchen has a large center-prep area, a pantry with a washer and dryer, and a dining area with a large table and chairs. Adjacent there is a spacious, fully-furnished living room with an oak floor; the couch is also a queen hide-a-bed. On the same floor there is a small toilet-and-sink room as well as a full-sized shower room with its own sink and lots of storage. Beautiful oak stairs lead up to the second floor hallway, off of which is one large bedroom with wall-to-wall carpeting, two dressers a full-size bed, a full futon couch, and lots of closet space. There is also a smaller bedroom that has a dresser, full bed, chair, and closet. On the ground level there is a walk-in basement for easy storage of winter sports equipment, with interior stairs leading up to the living area. Exterior stairs lead up to a full deck and the front kitchen/DR door. The gas-fired, baseboard heating system has two zones/thermostats, one upstairs and one on the main floor, and keeps the house very comfortable during the colder seasons.
Our previous tenants have found the house a charming and relaxing place to live in.

My wife Joanne and I are retired public secondary school teachers. We have been living and working in the Mount Washington Valley since the early 70s and moved here for the benefits of rural living and the easy access to the outdoors. I built the house from the ground up and still do all the maintenance. My brother and his wife live close by; we often share tasks such as logging and working up our firewood. Joanne and I enjoy working for our community at the Jackson ski touring center, library, and local hospital, and maintaining our two houses; we also travel, often with our children and grandchildren. We are enthusiastic bicyclists and cross-country skiers, and also love to snowshoe.
I chose to build a house in Freedom because of its pristine woodlands and small-town New England charm; I also hoped to farm the land, which I did for several years.
Since I built my house myself, it became something of a hobby. Those who have rented our place have thoroughly enjoyed themselves hiking and swimming, snow tubing, snowboarding, skiing, snowshoeing, and ice skating.
