Enjoy a get-away to our cabin in Packwood, WA, near Mt. Rainier National Park and White Pass Ski Resort. View deer and elk, hike to nearby rivers to fish, and enjoy the cabin's hot tub year-round. Summer offers 2 community pools...one for good swimmers and another for small children. There's also a community tennis court, playground, basketball court, horseshoes, and large baseball field area. For those who like to hike, the cabin has a laminated Northwest Forest Pass for you to use while staying at the cabin (normally a $30 purchase, necessary to hike to Packwood Lake and other areas). Simply leave it in the cabin when you leave, and there's no charge to you! In winter, there are lots of areas to sled, some within walking distance! Listen to the birds and watch the chipmunks.
The cabin includes one loft bedroom with two full-size beds and a queen bed. There's also a pull-out couch. We have a variety of games, books, and movies available when you are not watching the fire in the wood stove or relaxing in the large jetted hot tub. Enjoy cable tv (as of 1/3/12) or watch a movie from the cabin collection. An entrance to the cabin has plenty of room to store your skis, boots, and snowboards in winter, and to keep your air mattresses for the pool in summer. Relax on the spacious deck for some sun or a family picnic, while viewing the mountain hills of Goat Rocks nearby. Hook up to Wifi at the community pool nearby.
Packwood is famous for having the largest outdoor market in WA on both Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. Or eat pizza at Cruisers, hike to Packwood Lake for the day, visit Paradise or Ohanapecosh at Mt. Rainier to enjoy a ranger led walk or a campfire talk, attend Packwood's Holiday Bazaar, Quilt Show, Art, or Rod Run weekends. The Cowlitz River offers fishing and there are waterfalls within a short hike just across the street from the cabin in the national forest. Packwood has a golf driving range and a golf course just down the road. Light an outdoor fire at the cabin, when there's no burn ban, to enjoy some hotdogs or s'mores.

Owners Bruce and Linda LaVergne have enjoyed spending summers at the cabin with their children and grandchildren in the pool, playground, fishing, and hiking, and winters on the slopes at White Pass. Now that our children are grown and we are not using the cabin as often as before, we'd like to share it with you!
The Owner purchased this cabin in 1996
We purchased the cabin in Packwood after we began to ski regularly at White Pass Ski Resort, only a 20 minute drive away. The number of elk and deer seen, as well as the amenities which were part of the Timberline Community Association, also attracted our interest in the property.
We own two lots, so there is enough area outdoors for a seasonal marshmallow roast or for kids to explore the plants, rocks, leaves, and wildlife. The state's largest outdoor market on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends still has our daughter looking to buy a porcelain doll each year. Although there are other cabins nearby, it is so quiet there that sleeping in isn't a problem! It's a great spot to relax.
Located just off Hwy 12, it is easy to find.
With the Gifford National Forest located across our cul-de-sac, there are many trails to hike, waterfalls to see, and streams to fish.
The local coffee shop has free wifi as well as friendly talk and great coffee.
We spent several days here in mid-July visiting family in Seattle and sightseeing and enjoyed the area immensely. The cabin has a nice deck and is clean. It's adequate to anyone's needs insofar as "base of operations" for whatever season-appropriate activity you may wish. The hot tub was great and the upstairs beds are comfortable. Do not expect "time-share-quality" furnishings and equipment though. It is furnished and equipped more in a family 'hand-me-down' style. While adequate, it is fairly Spartan should you find yourself caught indoors for more than a day. All-in-all, a great place to use as a home-base for enjoying the greater area and we would return here again.
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay here. It was nice being someplace close to so many hiking trails in both Mt. Rainier and Gifford Pinchot forests. Definitely made use of the area trail information provided in the cabin. Having a hot tub to relax in after a day of hiking is a definite plus. And the large deck out back also provides a good spot for relaxing ourdoors. The bedroom loft is a bit of an inconvenience but was not an issue for us. Wish we could have stayed longer. We plan on returning for another summer trip in the future and will likely try to book the same cabin.
We stayed here with our 5 year old son and friends (4 adults and one child) for the Labor Day Weekend.
The cabin is great!
There are many books that helped us to determine the best hikes to take with our boy. We took the short drive to Paradise on Mount Rainier and hiked a short hike.
We enjoyed the community pool and the hot tub. Everything was really clean and just a really enjoyable time.
We are already looking for a time to go back!
Great value cabin very close to Mt. Rainier! My wife and I enjoyed two nights at the cabin. The cabin was a very short drive away from Mt. Rainier National Park – where we spent the majority of our time. The cabin has an open layout making it very comfortable. The neighborhood was very quiet (our stay was during the week). We enjoyed the Mt. Rainier reading materials and played a couple of the board games that are in the cabin. The cabin sits above the majority of the neighborhood, so when sitting on the large deck the view included a handful of houses, but beyond the houses were the mountains. We enjoyed our stay!
We had so much fun while staying in your mountain home, although our time there just wasn't quite long enough! We are looking forward to coming again on our next trip to Washington next summer! We hiked up the trail pratically right out the front door to a cave which was so fun for the whole family. The nice neighbors we met on a walk told us some of the history behind the cave which was quite interesting and educational for our young ones. The day at the pools was quite the hit with our kids and we were pleasantly surprized how well kept up the pools and surrounding community areas were. We enjoyed the "Marvelous Mountains" Rainier and Helens, both in one day was a little much though. Thank goodness both mountains were as close as they were. We wish we would have stayed longer and went to one mountain per day because there was so much to see and do, especially at Rainier National Park. The house was so clean and the view was great! Thank you for sharing! We really enjoyed eatting out on the deck with the great view! I am sure the locals know the wonderful gem of a coffee shop they have but OH WOW, the Butter Butte has the BEST fresh roasted coffee we have ever had! After leaving the cabin we went to stay with relatives in Yakima and shared with them all about our adventures and how wonderful the house was. They were excited because they had referred us to the cabin because some friends of theirs had previously stayed there. This truly was a great 4 day escape in the mountains and we look forward to coming back!!!! Thanks to Linda for all of her sugestions of things we could do. Thank you to the hospitality girls for helping us find a good mechanic.
We had a good time at this mountain cabin. The location is secluded with lots of trees, very quiet and peaceful, but not much of a view. The property was larger than the photos suggested. Everything was there and in good working order and the property was clean. Our kids enjoyed the community pool. Restaurant options in Packwood are limited, we could find only 2. Menus are basic. Proximity to Rainier National Park was very handy.
