Overview

Mount Vernon Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 1 Bedroom, 1.5 Bath; private pond for fishing

Our large 6 acre retreat is very private, yet has convenient access to I-5 . Three acres are dedicated to the cabin, pond and surrounding grounds. You will feel very secluded as you can’t see other homes, including ours, on the upper 3 acres of the property. A perfect getaway for families or a romantic weekend. Most of our guests come back annually and have made the Belanger Estate a family tradition for birthdays, anniversaries or other special occasions. Although some of our guests take advantage of our convenient location to all that Skagit Valley has to offer, many come to the cabin and don't leave until their checkout time!

The home is well landscaped and includes a turquoise one-acre sized pond. There's excellent catch & release barbless lure & fly fishing for triploid trout and no fishing license required. We have horseshoes for a evening of fun, or sit by the firepit. Then relax in the hot tub to finish the night off.

The home is fully furnished for all of your in home needs with a Queen bed and double futon in the upstairs master bedroom. There is also room downstairs to set up the queen sized aerobed. The couch pulls out into a queen sized bed as well, so 4 adults can each have their own bed. The cabin is best suited for 4 or fewer guests, but many families with 4 children have come and had memorable family vacations! (see video) We have added more bar stools and 6 can comfortably seat at the dining table now.

The only thing you will need to bring is your clothes, a fishing pole, and a steak for the BBQ. We have satellite TV, DVD and wireless internet. (Note: there is no LAN line phone available.) The kitchen is fully stocked with all appliances, including a griddle, coffee maker, coffee beans and grinder, microwave, electric hot pot, and basic spices. As far as personal items, we provide a hair dryer, shampoo, body wash and cream rinse, so you don't even need to pack those. A full sized washer and dryer are available at the cabin for your convenience as well.

Please check our calendar for availability so you won't be disappointed! To get an accurate quote, click 'detailed price' to enter the dates, number of guests, and whether or not you have a pet. Then click the 'continue to booking' button if you want to start the booking process.

If you have the time, check out the video some guests made after having their New Year's Eve stay at our cabin. It will really give you a feel for what our vacation rental is all about.

About John or Mary Davis

John and Mary have retired from 30+ years of teaching in Cordova, Alaska. We ran one of the first B&B's there, the Oystercatcher Bed and Breakfast. John grew up in Skagit Valley and was excited when his niece decided to sell this property. We have many relatives within a one mile radius, so we are surrounded by good people in this very special neighborhood.

Why John or Mary Davis chose Mount Vernon

Buying the Belanger Estate was the perfect transition for us in our 'retirement.' We love the beauty and accessibility this property offers us and our guests.

What makes this cabin unique

This property is very unique. Not only is our cabin much more secluded than most vacation rentals, you have your own private pond all to yourselves during your stay. We stock the pond every year with triploid trout for your fishing enjoyment.

Summer or winter this area has so much to offer. The summer is filled with fun things to do including the San Juan Islands, tulip fields 20 minutes away, or Big Lake which is only 2 minutes away. The North Cascade pass has many trails to hike and much much more. In the winter, visitors come from all over to see the eagles. There is steelhead fishing on the Skagit river or enjoy trout fishing in our private pond off the deck. Mt Baker ski area is just an hour and 15 minutes door to door or Stevens pass ski area is about an hour and 45 minutes. If you're here to shop, the Outlet malls in Burlington are about 15 minutes away.

Our Beautiful Summer Retreat

  • 5 of 5
Thank you Mary and John for another wonderful summer in your beautiful cabin. You both work so hard in keeping up the grounds, pond, and updating the cabin when needed and we commend you for it. As usual the wildlife and fishing was outstanding and the treats that you left for us were delicious. We highly recommend the experience of this retreat to everyone and that is why we keep coming back every summer.

Owner's Response: It's great that so many of our guests make a trip to the cabin an annual event. About half of our business is from repeat visitors. Looking forward to seeing you guys again next summer!

amazing stay

  • of 5
Can't say enough about this place. Beautiful setting. Everything you need provided. Immaculate clean home. Privacy. Fishing was fun....not as easy as you'd think! Hot tub was perfect for star gazing. Fire table amazing for warming up. Bed nice and soft. WiFi worked perfect. Close enough to town to run in for something quick but far enough away to feel "lost". Only possible negative thing I could say was the landscapers were very loud but that's not their fault...you can mow quietly. John and Mary were fantastic...had a plate of cookies for my wife since her and John shared a birthday waiting for us and after a moment of pure stupidity (grabbing a hot pan handle) Mary was even willing to rush down from her house with some burn cream that helped immensely. This trip was just the adults...next time we are bringing the kids.

Owner's Response: Glad you and your wife had a great time. John was very touched to see the birthday card your wife left for him. We chuckled at your comment about the landscapers--tough to do the job quietly, I'm afraid. Luckily, they only come every other Monday for a few hours. The rest is up to John and me and we can work around the guests' schedules a little better. Hope to see your whole family next time. Kids love to swim and fish in the pond, play horseshoes, sit by the fire pit and just run around the property being kids!

Great Stay

  • of 5
We are six women who came up to Mt. Vernon for a four-day painting workshop at Dakota Art. We stayed at the Belanger Estate for 4 glorious nights. The house was well furnished - probably better suited to 4 people, but we shared beds and it was fine. The deck off the pond was well used by us every evening for wine and relaxation and we saw deer a few times too. A beautiful spot, a comfortable stay. Since the house sleeps six, it would have been nice to have two extra stools (they could sit by the kitchen bar area) so we could all sit down to dinner together. Hot tub looked inviting, but we didn't use it. Thanks for a great stay.

Owner's Response: Yes, the cabin is better suited for four guests. However, we had so many requests from previous visitors to allow for 6 guests, we decided to keep that option available. Until your review, we've had over 60 five star perfect reviews, so I think that the number of guests was the reason for your rating. Thanks for your suggestions to make it more comfortable for a larger group.

Everything and MORE......

  • 5 of 5
We completely enjoyed our stay at this relaxing, cozy home away from home. John and Mary were very responsive with questions and sending confirmations, requests, etc. and they covered all the little details to make the experience the very best it could be. The fishing was fun, a family of deer wandered by in the evenings, the BBQ and hot tub were perfect on the patio overlooking the pond..... It was amazingly quiet and so very relaxing. We could not have asked for a more relaxing and enjoyable get-
away..... we can't wait to come back.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you had a nice, relaxing stay. It is usually a quiet neighborhood and you can really feel like you've gotten away from it all. When John and I first drove up to the property we just looked at each other and knew we'd found our new home. We are delighted to share this special place with our guests.

Private Paridise

  • 5 of 5
My family loved this cute little cottage that sits right on it's own private pond. This was a family get away with my wife and young daughter. My 5 year old daughter enjoyed the fishing as well as just exploring the beautiful grounds. She particularly enjoyed the bon fires in the evening and signing with the frogs! One morning we saw a beautiful majestic Eagle as well as deer. The beauty of this place is indescribable. Mary and John are great hosts and willing to assist you with any of your needs. However, the cabin is well stocked with everything you need so there's no worry's there. We have already planned our returned trip for the Fall. Thank you again Mary and John for sharing this very special property with us.

Owner's Response: You might win the prize for the fastest return reservation after leaving the cabin. I loved watching your adorable daughter catch that huge trout with her 3 foot pink fishing pole! That's a picture to add to our website for all the fishermen who think they need to spend a lot of money for a fancy rod. We also enjoyed meeting your parents; it sounded like they want to join you on your next trip as well.

4 Girls and a dog

  • 5 of 5
Your cabin and property is a little piece of paradise. We had such a wonderful time. All the beds were comfortable. We were surprised by how well the kitchen was stocked. We even baked a pie. I had brought a fire starter log from home but even that was provided. We enjoyed a fire under the stars and the hot tub was a luxury. It was fun to feed the fish and to watch them jumping. Charlie my dog especially enjoyed that. Next time we will try to catch one. And next time we will stay longer. Thank you so much for preparing such a lovely getaway.

Many of our guests never leave the cabin and treat it as a true 'destination vacation.' However, there are a multitude of things to do in Skagit Valley. We are about a 10 minute drive to the Centennial Trail which offers miles of relatively flat bike trails. In about 40 minutes you can be at the ferry dock in Anacortes and on your way to one of the San Juan Islands for the day. If you're looking for shopping opportunities, the outlet malls in Burlington are less than 10 minutes away. We are also very close to Skagit Valley Community College and have hosted several graduation parties at the cabin. The tulip fields in April are just a short ride to the other side of the freeway and right beyond them is the quaint town of LaConner with lots of shops and restaurants. Or...you can just stay put and enjoy the serenity of the pond and quiet setting here on our property!
