Our large 6 acre retreat is very private, yet has convenient access to I-5 . Three acres are dedicated to the cabin, pond and surrounding grounds. You will feel very secluded as you can’t see other homes, including ours, on the upper 3 acres of the property. A perfect getaway for families or a romantic weekend. Most of our guests come back annually and have made staying at our cabin a family tradition for birthdays, anniversaries or other special occasions. Although some of our guests take advantage of our convenient location to all that Skagit Valley has to offer, many come to the cabin and don't leave until their checkout time!
The grounds are well landscaped and include a turquoise one-acre sized pond. There's excellent catch & release barbless lure & fly fishing for triploid trout. Because it's on private property, no fishing license is required. We have horseshoes for a evening of fun, or sit by the firepit. Then relax in the hot tub to finish the night off.
The home is fully furnished for all of your in home needs with a Queen bed and double futon in the upstairs master bedroom. There is also room downstairs to set up the queen sized aerobed. The couch pulls out into a queen sized bed as well, so 4 adults can each have their own bed. The cabin is best suited for 4 or fewer guests, but many families with 4 children have come and had memorable family vacations! (see video) We have added more bar stools and 6 can comfortably seat at the enlarged dining table.
The only thing you will need to bring is your clothes, a fishing pole, and a steak for the BBQ. We have satellite TV, DVD and wireless internet. (Note: there is no landline phone available.) The kitchen is fully stocked with all appliances, including a griddle, coffee maker, coffee beans and grinder, microwave, electric hot pot, and basic spices. As far as personal items, we provide a hair dryer, shampoo, body wash and cream rinse, so you don't even need to pack those. A full sized washer and dryer are available at the cabin for your convenience as well.
Please check our calendar for availability so you won't be disappointed! Our weekends book way in advance, so if you want to book for a week long stay, you need to get in your request early. Winter weekdays are often open and can be booked last minute. To get an accurate quote, click 'detailed price' to enter the dates, number of guests, and whether or not you have a pet. Then click the 'continue to booking' button if you want to start the booking process.
If you have the time, check out the video some guests made after having their New Year's Eve stay at our cabin. It will really give you a feel for what our vacation rental is all about.
John and Mary have retired from 30+ years of teaching in Cordova, Alaska. We ran one of the first B&B's there, the Oystercatcher Bed and Breakfast. John grew up in Skagit Valley and was excited when his niece decided to sell this property. We have many relatives within a one mile radius, so we are surrounded by good people in this very special neighborhood.
Buying this vacation rental was the perfect transition for us in our 'retirement.' We love the beauty and accessibility this property offers us and our guests.
This property is very unique. Not only is our cabin much more secluded than most vacation rentals, you have your own private pond all to yourselves during your stay. We stock the pond every year with triploid trout for your fishing enjoyment.
Summer or winter this area has so much to offer. The summer is filled with fun things to do including the San Juan Islands, tulip fields 20 minutes away, or Big Lake which is only 2 minutes away. The North Cascade pass has many trails to hike and much much more. In the winter, visitors come from all over to see the eagles. There is steelhead fishing on the Skagit river or enjoy trout fishing in our private pond off the deck. Mt Baker ski area is just an hour and 15 minutes door to door or Stevens pass ski area is about an hour and 45 minutes. If you're here to shop, the Outlet malls in Burlington are about 15 minutes away.
My family loved our stay again. My daughter with her pink princess rod caught many large trout again. We love the peace and quiet of your cabin. Thanks again for sharing this special place with us! Will be back (again).
This was a last moment booking for my sons spring break. We all liked it so much and on my sons demand I checked dates into summer.... The cabin is booked all summer right until October. I was lucky to have got dates in April.
The stay was wonderful, the house is fully stocked and very clean. It's small but I would say that's the beauty...so cozy and romantic...perfect for a couple or a small family of 3 like ours. we've never been to a vacation rental home alone and I was a bit skeptical about my son going without his friends this time as he might get bored staying there for 2 days. But I was wrong...fishing kept him busy day and ah...night as well. He caught a couple of 12 inch rainbow trouts and quickly released them...we are vegetarians. Jacuzzi wAs great for me and my wife and we enjoyed the evening enjoy the beautiful view and watching our newly self acclaimed fishermen....wow it was like a dream. I had brought in some officer work but didn't even get a chance to take out my laptop from the car....
2nd day we went to the chuckanut drive....but soon I realized nobody was happy and they all wanted to go back into the house. We came back, my wife prepared basmati rice and curry(yea
Yea curry)....I made some chai...and we had it near the water...what fun.....
Day 3 we woke up with a heavy heart...parting time....we will stay there again...I am keeping an eye on this home and as soon as I get a date...I'll go there..and this time for atkeast 5 days....
Yeah forgot to mention tulip fields ....that's why we stayed here cause it's a 10 min drive.Believe it or not if you've seen those fields, you surely know how beautiful they are...my wife didn't even mention tulip fields when we were here :)
Thanks John and Mary for letting us in....you are doing a great job!!!
The setting for this cabin was absolutely perfect for us and our older dog. The property is near town but it feels very secluded. We enjoyed feeling a real "getaway" even though the tulip fields, hikes, and lakes are just a short drive away. The owners clearly put a lot of thought and details into the house, and we appreciated the warmth of the home. The kitchen was fully stocked, and there was ample bedding and many extra amenities. We enjoyed the hot tub even though it was a cold and rainy weekend. The fish jumped and splashed around when we fed them. The set-up of the deck right on the pond was really a unique feature. We came back raving about the cabin and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to unwind!
The cabin was neat and tidy in a peaceful and rural setting yet still half an hour drive or less to Mt Vernon. I liked the extras that came with the cabin like coffee, spices in the kitchen, cooking supplies. I travelled with 2 children who enjoyed feeding the fish, horseback riding at a nearby farm and outlet shopping - all in one trip. We'll definitely look at a return trip in the future.
Our family stayed here for 3 nights just after Christmas. We were hoping for a peaceful, relaxing post-holiday break and that's exactly what we got. The cabin is lovely. Our daughters loved the little lake, and the hot tub. Even our 12-year-old 'puppy' seemed to relax. :) We were lucky to avoid the rain so had a fire outside one cold night. Went for a couple of long, quiet walks and met some cows along the way. Just a lovely stay, couldn't have asked for more. Thanks so much, we hope to make a return trip!
Many of our guests never leave the cabin and treat it as a true 'destination vacation.' However, there are a multitude of things to do in Skagit Valley. We are about a 10 minute drive to the Centennial Trail which offers miles of relatively flat bike trails. In about 40 minutes you can be at the ferry dock in Anacortes and on your way to one of the San Juan Islands for the day. If you're looking for shopping opportunities, the outlet malls in Burlington are less than 10 minutes away. We are also very close to Skagit Valley Community College and have hosted several graduation parties at the cabin. The tulip fields in April are just a short ride to the other side of the freeway and right beyond them is the quaint town of LaConner with lots of shops and restaurants. Or...you can just stay put and enjoy the serenity of the pond and quiet setting here on our property!
