John and Mary have retired from 30+ years of teaching in Cordova, Alaska. We ran one of the first B&B's there, the Oystercatcher Bed and Breakfast. John grew up in Skagit Valley and was excited when his niece decided to sell this property. We have many relatives within a one mile radius, so we are surrounded by good people in this very special neighborhood.

This property is very unique. Not only is our cabin much more secluded than most vacation rentals, but you have your own private pond! We stock the pond every year with triploid trout for your fishing enjoyment.

Summer or winter this area has so much to offer. The summer is filled with fun things to do including the San Juan Islands, Tulips 20 minutes away, or Big Lake which is 2 minutes away. The North Cascade pass has many trails to hike and much much more. In the winter, visitors come from all over to see the eagles. There is steelhead fishing on the Skagit river or enjoy trout fishing in our private pond off the deck. Mt Baker ski area is just an hour and 15 minutes door to door or Stevens pass ski area is about an hour and 45 minutes. If you're here to shop, the Outlet malls in Burlington are about 15 minutes away.

PRIVATE PARIDISE

  • 5 of 5
My family loved this cute little cottage that sits right on it's own private pond. This was a family get away with my wife and young daughter. My 5 year old daughter enjoyed the fishing as well as just exploring the beautiful grounds. She particularly enjoyed the bon fires in the evening and signing with the frogs! One morning we saw a beautiful majestic Eagle as well as deer. The beauty of this place is indescribable. Mary and John are great hosts and willing to assist you with any of your needs. However, the cabin is well stocked with everything you need so there's no worry's there. We have already planned our returned trip for the Fall. Thank you again Mary and John for sharing this very special property with us.

Owner's Response: You might win the prize for the fastest return reservation after leaving the cabin. I loved watching your adorable daughter catch that huge trout with her 3 foot pink fishing pole! That's a picture to add to our website for all the fishermen who think they need to spend a lot of money for a fancy rod. We also enjoyed meeting your parents; it sounded like they want to join you on your next trip as well.

4 GIRLS AND A DOG

  • 5 of 5
Your cabin and property is a little piece of paradise. We had such a wonderful time. All the beds were comfortable. We were surprised by how well the kitchen was stocked. We even baked a pie. I had brought a fire starter log from home but even that was provided. We enjoyed a fire under the stars and the hot tub was a luxury. It was fun to feed the fish and to watch them jumping. Charlie my dog especially enjoyed that. Next time we will try to catch one. And next time we will stay longer. Thank you so much for preparing such a lovely getaway.

Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to write a review. I was out of town, but John said it looked like you ladies were having a great time! And, yes, most guests say their stay wasn't long enough.

BEAUTIFUL PROPERTY!

  • 5 of 5
Wonderful cabin! We spent the weekend there with our two dogs and 8 month old daughter. The cabin was clean, and stocked with everything we needed.

For those traveling with young children, the closet does fit a pack n' play. It was perfect for our daughter and she even slept through the night with her sound machine on!

Mary was great through the booking process, we can't wait to return again. We can see why it's booked through the summer already!

Thanks for a perfect and relaxing weekend!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the tip. We have a lot of couples who bring a small child with a pack'nplay, so that's good advice. Glad you were able to relax, because that's what our cabin is all about!

A LITTLE HEARTBROKEN TO LEAVE...

  • 5 of 5
We spent 5 nights here (sans kids) and were blown away at what a great experience it was.

The booking experience was seamless. Someone (maybe John & Mary?) even completely cleared the weather so we had warm, sunny, clear days and cool evenings under the full moon.

We found the property private, quiet, clean, and stocked with everything we needed plus many creative personal touches such as board games, CD player with relaxing music, suggestions for area activities, etc. My husband spent most of the time relaxing on the dock fishing, and easily caught over 30 or 40 fish of all sizes. I even caught my first (two!) fish. We thought it might be fun to have a little paddle boat or canoe for the pond.

I don't know how 5 days of relaxation goes by so quickly--but it did, and we were a little heartbroken to leave!

Owner's Response: Yes, John and I put in a word with the powers that be and got you 5 days of sun. I think you might be our luckiest guests yet, weather-wise. We have thought of putting a boat on the pond, but our insurance carrier wasn't too keen on the idea. Some guests have actually brought their own rafts and enjoyed laying out on the water on those hot, summer days.

ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL

  • 5 of 5
We had a girls weekend at the Tulip Festival and found this wonderful cabin. The place was amazing and not one of us wanted to leave. The landscaping is spectacular and the cabin was well stocked and well maintained. The only disappointment is it is now booked through the summer and no openings until September. I would recommend this property to everyone.

Owner's Response: Yes, we've had several groups of women spend a weekend getaway at the cabin. Glad you and your girlfriends had a great time!

A PERFECT STAY

  • 5 of 5
For years we dreamed of staying in a quaint cabin nestled in the woods. The cabin was everything we had hoped for and more; complete with an early morning visit from a family of deer. The pond is beautiful and the fishing was awesome. The interior is even lovelier than the profile pictures. All in all it was a great experience, and we will recommend this property to our family and friends.

Owner's Response: Yes, the deer returned this morning for a drink at the pond. I need to get a picture of them to add to our site. We also need to update our pictures as we constantly are upgrading furniture, new hot tub, curtains, etc.

We're glad you had a nice, relaxing stay because that's exactly what the cabin is for!
