Great House, Invasive Owner
Submitted: April 27, 2012
Stayed: March 2012
Myself and 10 others rented this house for 5 days during the last week of March. The house was beautiful and had all of the amenities and space that we were hoping for. However, I was a bit surprised by my first physical encounter with the owner...
To give a little background, our group consisted of 11 MBA graduate students who range in age from 28-35. A couple of hours after we arrived at the house, the owner stopped by to check in on us. He came to the back door (where the hot tub is located), which I thought was odd. At the time, two of the couples in our group were enjoying the hot tub and cold beverages. He pulled me aside (into his office which is conveniently located directly beside the house, in the garage) and expressed some concern about having never rented to "this type of group." It seemed to imply that he perceived us as a bunch of rowdy 19 year olds on their sophomore year college spring break. During this conversation he made sure that I was aware, in an almost threatening and demeaning manner, that I would be "liable for mishaps like spilled beer on the outdoor deck"!!! Despite how aggravating and surprising this was to me, I assured him that we would take very good care of the house.
As the days went on, the owner showed up at the house every morning between 7:00 and 7:30 AM to clean the hot tub. This also seemed odd to us, and we were curious if he was really doing this to check in on us. He would also return several times throughout the day to do work in his office - again, the office is about 6 feet from the house. Except for the first day, he never actually came inside the house during our stay, but he was on the property/deck/premises very frequently, which we found invasive. When you pay this much for a 5 night stay at a house, it should be your house for those 5 days...you shouldn't have to deal with a stranger (whether it's the owner or not) showing up daily and making his presence known.
Again, the house was great in terms of location, space and amenities and we very much enjoyed our stay. However, I will not be returning to this home for my next trip to Breckenridge and I urge any potential future renters to be aware of the fact that the owner will be on the property regularly during your stay.
Owner's Response: Life proves you cannot please everyone. This group was scheduled for 11 guests and no more than 5 cars, we request a maximum of 4. Although their group representative acknowledged this, they actually park 8 cars, sometimes 9 everyday on the property as they were partying with other groups they invited there. The first hour of their afternoon arrival on the hot tub deck required an intervention due to putting the stereo from the home onto the deck and turning it up high on the volume, spilling beer on the deck and hot tub cover and doing marijuana bong hits on the deck as well. I realized this was one of those rare less respectful groups we see once in a blue moon. I did make sure beer bottles and trash were picked up everyday and that the hot tub was clean and sanitary given the high level of extra use it was getting daily. It is our policy to provide all guests with quiet enjoyment of their stay along with convenient maintenance services.
