Our family built BirchCove in 2005 after clearing the property in the fall and winter of 2004. Our personal touches add to the cabins personally. Hand stoned fireplace with hand crafted mantel, personal designs, hand cut and designed bar, and many hours of hard work went into the building of our family retreat.
Reservation Hostess - Shelley Anderson purchased this house in 2005
This property was chosen by our family because of the private, cove area the cabin sits on. Quiet, serene, peaceful, are just a few adjectives that describe this property. Hearing the leaves rustle in the trees, watching deer, geese, turtles, frogs continue their lives on this secured property, and listening to the loon's call in the early morning while sipping hot coffee or cocoa on the upper deck. Only a few reasons this property was chosen.
Birch Cove was such a beautiful location for our family vacation. 6 of us (adults), and our small dogs, were not ready to leave when it came time!
The pictures simply do not do it justice! Shelley and Dale were there to greet us and give us a tour – they are so kind and helpful, I feel as though we have made two new friends! They have thought of everything to make guests feel welcome. Lots of comfy furniture inside upstairs, down, and out on the two decks, a kitchen with everything you could need, 4 bedrooms, and 3 baths gave us plenty of room, The home is much larger than it appears in pictures. The gas fireplace, games, and cable TV came in handy when we had rain and cool weather for a couple of days.
My mom, who is almost 88, had no trouble navigating the house or the yard to the fire pit and the dock. We all loved sitting around the fire (wood provided!), making pizzas, roasting brats, and marshmallows for S’mores. The stars were unbelievably bright, and it was so peaceful.
My son loves to fish, and he caught bass right from the dock the very first morning. We also rented a pontoon that was delivered right to the dock. On our ‘cruises’ we saw bald eagles and loons ‘fishing’ too. The lake is very quiet with a only a few other fishermen and a family tubing. It’s not so much a swimming lake, but ideal for fishing and boating.
Thanks Shelley and Dave for sharing your beautiful vacation home (we called it the “Lake House” – cabin just doesn’t describe it!). It helped make our family vacation one we will always remember!
We stayed here for a week over the Fourth of July, and it was perfect. Overall, we had 4 adults and 4 kids: my sister & brother-in-law, my wife, myself, my sister's two children (2 and 3 1/2), and our two children (3 and 6 months). This review comes directly from city-folk, us from Houston, TX, and my sister's family from Chicago.
First, the interior accommodations were just right. Four bedrooms allowed us to have each of the couples in our own rooms, and each sibling pair in their own room. We never felt cramped. One thing that contributed to this is the wonderful 2-floor setup. There is one bedroom downstairs and three upstairs. This is ideal for parents with small children. During nap time or after the kids' bedtime, we could go downstairs into the wonderful den (with couches, chairs, a bar, fridge, blender, games) and be as loud as we wanted.
Every amenity you can think of is included, with one exception. There is a D/W, W/D, coffee pot, micro, toaster, etc. But...no internet. Tough for us to get used to, especially given that the cellphone service is terrible (Verizon customers can send texts and email, but no phone conversations).
Outside...functional swingset for the kids. Beautiful deck with propane grill, which we used several times. Firepit and firewood just steps away from the bottom floor patio, which was where we made smores, attempted to smoke out the mosquitoes, and imbibed after the kiddos went to bed. (This venue also offers wonderful stargazing at no extra cost :)) Fishing pier. (No big ones caught from the pier. However, the myriad five-inch bluegills directly under the pier seemingly bite your worm the second it hits the water--great for fishing with little kids!)
This house is on a street with other houses, but we still felt very secluded (in a good way). It's less than 15 minutes into Phillips, and less than 45 minutes to Minocqua, if you don't mind a few miles of gravel roads.
Overall, the house seems as if it was built in the last year. We kept commenting on how there isn't even a scratch on the walls or a chip in the countertop. The owners do a great job maintaining it.
If we find ourselves looking for a place in/around Phillips in the future, this place will be at the top of our list! Our kids had a wonderful time, and so did the adults. This place was worth a little extra money compared to other more "cabin-y"-feeling places. Choose this one...you won't regret it."
We took a weekend away from our hectic schedule to enjoy the ATV trails in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Along one of the trails we even saw an eagle watching uis from a tall tree that never moved as we passed below.
Birch Cove provided everything we needed for our stay with two other couples. There was even a washer and dryer! The rooms were each uniquely decorated and the beds with comforters were wonderful. There were lights in the
bedroom closets and dressers for your clothes. Everything
was well thought out for guests. The upper deck has comfortable patio furniture to enjoy your beverages while
grilling your meals. With a game room downstairs and a fireplace upstairs, there is plenty of room for privacy and for people to do a variety of activities at the same time.
A great place to relax!
We have been taking an annual family vacation for 14 years. Birch Cove is by far the nicest place we have stayed. The owners were on time to check us in, gave us a tour of the home and property, tips on where to eat, fish, boat, and even a location for wine tasting. They were friendly and thorough. The home was imaculate inside and out!
Our family of 12 loves to cook and this kitchen is well equiped, whether you need a garlic press or wine opener. The gathering spaces are large and well arranged to accommodat a crowd, the beds are wonderful, and the decor fun and nicely done.
There was so much to do. The owners have thought oof everything: games galour, dice, foosball, firepit, etc. We were even encouraged to allow our grandchildren pick berries from their garden. Once we saw a deer run through the back yard and jump into the lake and take a swim ,,, an awesome site.
You will love staying here!
