PRIVATE BEACH HOUSE LOCATED AT THE CORNER OF PEACE AND QUIET

Nosara House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 9)

Casa de Memphis II is located at the little known north entrance to Playa Pelada where the Nosara River meets the Pacific Ocean. This private beach house is part of a collection of 8 private houses surrounded by the beach on one side and the ostional wildlife refuge on the other. There is only one road in or out and few people are aware that this section exist. This location is very private yet still very convenient to restaurants, grocery stores and everything else the community of Nosara has to offer.

The location is what makes this small community so special. With the ocean on one side, the Ostional wildlife area on the other and the Nosara River meets the Pacific Ocean near by, the area is a Mecca for wildlife. Because of the peaceful coexistence between the home owners and the natural surroundings, the wildlife literally comes to the door of the house. If you are looking for private seclusion surrounded by peace and quiet, this is it. That is until a flock of parrots land in the tree above and the neighborhood monkey troop join in, then it gets a little noisy, but they were there first.

The house is a one minute walk to the beach and is located around the corner from the original Casa de Memphis I. (Some people perfer to rent two seperate houses at the same time so as to lessen “family dymanics”) Constructed in the style of the surrounding community; this one story two bedroom house is set up for the traveling family. One bedroom has a queens size bed and the other has two set of custom made punk beds. Both bedrooms have private baths with walk in showers. There is a twin bed in the main room up in the loft. There is also a private one bedroom cabina with its own private bathroom, garden, hammock and outdoor furniture that is only accessed by a private bridge over a stream. Together they will sleep 9 people. Both the house and the cabina are fully air conditioned, and has all of the amenities of home including, private pool, beach towels, beach chairs, cable TV, wireless internet, fully equipped kitchen, outdoor grill, pool chairs, telephone, monitored alarm system and more. The house and cabina are only rented out together, never separately.

Because the house sits at the end of a road there is no through traffic, noise or the associated dust commonly found else where.

Security: Costa Ricans are by nature a very passive people. That said petty theft is an on going issue. Nothing neutralizes this issue more than common since. CdM I & II have monitored alarm systems and 400 pounds safes bolted to the floor. No other house available for rent has this level of security.

Tired of cooking? We can arrange for a private chef to do all of the shopping, come to the house and prepare the menu of your choice at a mere fraction of what dinning out would be. This is the best bargain in Nosara and the wife of the owner of the house takes full advantage of this. Imagine, someone comes to the house at 17:00 (5PM), cleans, prepares dinner, cleans up afterwards and departs by 20:00 (8PM). Cost: $25 plus groceries. Tell us what you want and we will make it happen.

NOTE: Nosara, like many other beach communities, is experiencing a building boom. The northern end of Playa Pelada, where the house is located, is the only location free from the early morning construction noise, truck traffic and the associated dust. Dust is a serious issue from December to May. While there is very little traffic in front of the house we still apply molasses to the road out front to seal off the dust. Place smells like pancakes.

Booking: There are two ways to book Casa de Memphis I or II. VIA OWNER: simply send the owner an email stating which house and what dates you want. His reply will confirm the dates and the rate. If this is agreeable then the owner will send you a rental agreement to print out, read, sigh and return with a deposit in the form of a US dollar check or Canadian post order. 60 days prior to your arrival you will send in the whole rental fee. Your deposit converts to a security deposit and is refunded back to you after you depart. VIA CREDIT CAED: VRBO now has a book it now feature where you can use a credit card for the whole process. You will need to purchase a $49 security deposit policy that is non refundable. The choice is yours.

The House is owned by David & Mary Caywood. David flies for FedEx and Mary is a retired advertising executive. They own two house's, known as CdM I & II. This is their favorivte of the two and they stay here three months of the year.

Dave Caywood purchased this house in 2010

We bought the original Casa de Memphis I in 2007 and naturally we got to know the area and many of the locals very well. One of them was our neighbor, Richard Moffat. Mary loved Richards’s house and so when he decided to move closer to his son in the central valley, we bought the house and it became known as Casa de Memphis II. The two houses are just around the corner from one another, only 75 yards apart.

We enjoy walking to everything. Because the roads are so convoluted most people use the beach to get around. After a while you learn the trails through the jungle and the result is that the community is not so fragmented.

Everything anyone could want or need was in perfect shape at this house. Quality was excellent for the house, appliances, swimming pool,TV and all else. The beach was so close and awesome, I intend to return with even more friends for vacation.

Best trip ever.

  • 5 of 5
The facilities were excellent: everything was clean, the kitchen had everything we needed, plenty of space, beautiful pool and back patio. The monkeys were always entertaining to watch with our morning coffee. The owner and manager were very responsive to our requests. The property description was accurate. Very close to the beach. The beach features rocky islands that are more beautiful than anything I've seen in the United States. Great restaurant on the beach within walking distance. There are fruit trees on the property. I would definitely stay here again.

Pearl in the Jungle

  • 5 of 5
This place is a unique paradox: you are staying in a beautiful house with a pool and all the amenities, yet you are in the middle of the jungle with monkeys and parakeets in the trees. If you want to take it easy, you can walk 100 yards to your own private beach, or go sightseeing. If you want a little adventure, you can go deep sea fishing, zip lining, or take surfing lessons. You can go pick fresh fruit off the trees along any street and cook at home in the impressive kitchen, or dine at some really nice restaurants with surprisingly good wine lists. And everything is right there. There is something for everyone. This is our second time - this was a fishing trip with the guys, but a few years ago I came with the wife and our 2 year old, and both trips were perfect. And btw, the fishing is awesome and VERY reasonably priced.

Beautiful home, you wont be dissapointed

  • 5 of 5
The Memphis 2 is a beautiful home in an amazing little town. The journey from the airport was easy and the roads were fun to drive on. There were little roadside fruit and snack stands and the people were very kind given our language barrier.
The owners and caretaker were great to work with and the home had all the amenities you could want and then some. Very clean, great finishes, plenty of space. Upon arrival the caretaker showed us the home and a few locals gave us an overview of where everything was. The layout of the roads can be a bit tricky at first.
The children loved the swimming pool and the very short hop and skip to the beach. We woke up every morning to adorable little crabs wanting to get drinks of water. The moneys in the trees were super fun as well as the iguanas and geckos. The neighbors were welcoming and gave us fresh mangos.
The restaurants in the town have a variety of delicious food and the markets are fully stocked.
The town itself is known for surfing and yoga. We however went fishing with an amazing charter service (Fishing Nosora) and did the zip lines (Miss Zip) and had a great time. I would recommend this house and town to anyone who wanted to visit Costa Rica.

Lovely property and incredible location

  • 4 of 5
Our family enjoyed a lovely week in Nosara at Casa de Memphis II. We brought our kids ages 11 and 8 and they loved it. The location is amazing with the beach just a couple minutes walk. The howler monkeys woke us every morning and we enjoyed watching them swing through the trees with babies in tow.
The house is lovely with comfortable beds, a nice open concept and we all enjoyed the pool. We felt safe at all times whether in the house or walking the beach at night. We were careful to keep our valuables locked up and out of sight and kept the doors/gates locked. We did encounter a couple or maintenance issues when we first arrived but Tiffany was great and had things fixed right away. Some of the little things like linens, towels and dishes could stand to be replaced but overall the house was clean and well maintained.
The beach was great for beach combing, tidal pools, swimming and boogie boarding although you have to be aware of potential rip tides. We enjoyed eating at Olga's and La Luna which were both a quick walk along the beach. We were lucky enough to see some baby turtles making their way from nest to water right at Playa Peleda. We also walked to Playa Guiones for surfing and enjoyed the little shops and restaurants there.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and recommend it to families who want to see monkeys and be close to a quiet, swimming beach.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Believe it or not your balanced perspective helps me manage the house better than most of the five star reviews. As a result of your comments my wife and I went down to Nosara last week and went through all of the linens. We could not understand why it was that every time we go down there and take new linens, someone would say they needed replacing. Here is what we found out.

The ladies that clean the house are of course local and have been working for me for years. Their perspective on things is different than ours. If a sheet has a stain or a slight tear but would still fit on the bed, all standards met! In fact the first night I was down there my own pillow had both a paint stain and a tear!! All of this was happening while the closet was filled to the brim with brand new replacement sheets and towels that had never been used.

Needless to say we have tried to convey the difference in standards between their’s and the reasonable expectations of guest who invest both their time and money for an experience of a lifetime. Hopefully this issue is behind us, but remember that the first step in solving any problem is being aware of it in the first place and for that we are very thankful.

Great Location, Good Pool and Well Equipped House

  • 5 of 5
We (grandparents, parents and two kids) stayed at Casa de Memphis II the week after Christmas. The house location is great. It is less than 2 minute walk to the beach passing through the required (by law) conserved vegetation zone. A morning walk south takes you down the beach, Playa Pelada, to connect to the next, even longer, beach, Playa Guiones. Both are beautiful beaches and, even at this time of the year, relatively unpopulated. A huge huge plus for the kids was the nice sized pool at the house. After hours on the beach they spent more hours in the pool. The house is well -equipped for cooking but only a short drive to nearby restaurants if you don’t want to cook. You can also reach restaurants walking down the beach. We did both. The internet worked without a hitch. The house is supplied with TV, books and games for the indoor time. The house manager, Tiffany, is very nice and was always accessible for questions. She can help you plan activities. Dave, the owner, provides lots of good information on the house and maps of the area before you go. If you stay here, introduce yourself to the next door neighbors who live there most of the year. They are also a fount of information about Nosara. Although there are some small grocery stores nearby, if you are going to cook at home I would stock up on groceries at one of the supermercados on the way from the airport. And a pleasant surprise was (at least during this time of the year) the drive on the gravel road to Nosara . It was slow as expected but not bad at all. We had a very good time at Casa de Memphis II.

Notes CdM II has remote metering equipment so as to determine how much or how little electricity individual parties use. Because of this we have not had to raise the rate since 2008. We find it to be a much fairer way to control cost. You can actually monitor your usage online during your stay. This is a great way to teach future generations about conservation.
