VIlla Happy Blue for a wonderful vacation
We spent a week at Villa Happy Blue and found the villa to be just wonderful. It is just as the pictures on the website depict it The villa is in a very quiet location, although a bit remote if you are looking for nightlife and shopping. The access to two beautiful beaches (Happy Bay and Friar’s Bay) is via a walking trail (it is a bit uphill on the way back). The view from the villa is stunning and the outdoor eating and lounging areas of the villa are incredible. With two couples the villa has plenty of space. The kitchen is modern and well stocked with plates, utensils and cooking pots. There were some spices and coffee filters but make sure you bring anything you really want. There was housekeeping once during the week, which was a very thorough cleaning of the whole villa with new sheets. The area seemed safe although we were told to completely shut all the storm blinds and doors when we left. Air conditioning is via units in each room, which worked very well. Each bedroom had a nice private bath and the king sized bed was comfortable. We would definitely stay at the Villa Happy Blue if we vacation in St Martin again.
We did not rent a car and managed, but next time we would rent a car for part of the time Walking to Grand-Case is possible but is a very healthy 20 minute walk with quite a hill on the way back. Taxis have no idea where Villa Happy Blue is located and getting a taxi in Grand-Case turned out the harder than we had thought.
The Villa requires cash payment, no credit cards. We were a bit nervous about this and did not want to carry cash for final payment so we arranged to pay the full amount up front via personal check.
The property managers were very nice and responsive to requests (although as we found for everything on St Martin it was on island time and very relaxed). There is a gentleman who lives in the ground level of the villa.
Friar’s Bay is the more developed beach with two places to rent chairs and eat (we preferred the Kali's Beach Bar). Happy Bay was more remote and beautiful (there is a guy that rents chairs and runs a stand for beer and BBQ).
The only thing that was a disappointment was the BBQ, for some reason we thought there was a gas grill but there is only a very cheap charcoal grill.
Another hiccup was a water main issue that was not fixed until our second day so we only got to stay 6 days at the villa. Stephane was able to arrange a villa in Orient Bay for our arrival night.
