Hodge Lodge is a historic home on the award-winning private island of Parrot Cay. It is the original privately held property on the island and is located on the beach at the northeastern edge of the island, offering a 360 degree view of the sea and the sand. It was built in 1970 as a fishing lodge and has evolved into a relaxed, comfortable, charming family home. Built over the sea, the house sits high in the air, and the surrounding deck takes advantage of the constant easterly breeze and provides outdoor sun and shade all day. The large open floor plan on the top level creates a space for all to enjoy whether playing games, preparing meals, dining or just relaxing with the view. Two Balinese day beds in one corner provide the perfect spot for an afternoon nap. A new, fully equipped kitchen provides everything the gourmet cook could need, including a new wine fridge. Two outdoor dining areas offer a choice of views and breezes for dining over the water. For indoor dining, a large round table seats up to eight. The lower level offers two master suites with adjoining screened patios, each offering views of the sea from your king-sized bed. A third bedroom has two twin beds and its own private deck over the water. A great master bathroom provides a stall shower, but is seldom used, as our guests prefer the private stone outdoor shower. A short path leads you to our very private stretch of beach where the sea is warm and shallow. From there, our guests can continue down the beach to enjoy the Parrot Cay Hotel beach and pool. A beach walk to Rocky Point offers a full mile of flat white sand and turquoise sea. The island has much to explore by cart path whether walking, biking or driving our buggy. Water activities such as: diving, fishing, boating, can be arranged for you by our house manager. Hodge Lodge adjoins the exclusive Como Parrot Cay Resort and Spa and our guests are welcome to use all of their amenities. Upon arrival, simply visit the front desk and open an account with a credit card which will then allow you to charge all food and services purchased at the resort. Please visit the Parrot Cay Resort and Spa website to learn more about their world renowned facility. We offer our home at a rate that makes it available to our friends and guests who would like to visit Parrot Cay, but prefer a home to hotel accommodations. We feel this presents the best of both worlds: the finest resort offerings and the comfort, privacy and warmth of a home. We hope you will visit soon!
Hodge Lodge has been our vacation home and a source of much joy and many adventures for more than 40 years.
In 1971 Russell and Alice Hodge built this house. They were avid fishermen and flew their single engine plane throughout the Caribbean fishing and exploring and were struck with the Turks and Caicos Islands. In the late 60’s there was a plan to develop Parrot Cay which Russel Hodge was a part of. The development fell through but Russell and Alice were taken with their lot and Parrot Cay and decided to build on their own. They purchased the land directly from the TCI Government in a time when there was no power, no phone, no cell phones and only CB marine radio to communicate. Russell designed the house, bought every piece of material in Florida and chartered a barge to land directly on the beach at the property. All material was offloaded by hand and the house was put up using local labor and contractors commuting by boat (often sailboat). Russell also built an airstrip on the south end of the island where he flew directly to Parrot Cay.
The house was built and remains rustic on purpose and we hope that that factor is as charming to you as it is to us.
In the early 90’s we watched the resort being built. Later, we watched as COMO Hotels renovated and finally opened the resort. Hodge Lodge is the only part of the island that is not owned by COMO Shambhala Resort at Parrot Cay.
The Owner purchased this lodge in 1971
Parrot Cay is a 3 mile long island. It is a peaceful and healing place. Parrot Cay Resort is the only other property on island and we both understand the importance of Parrot Cay as a place to recharge, refresh and reconnect. It is an ideal place for families to come to spend quality time together and to get reconnected to nature. The ocean is an incredible turquoise blue and the sand is fine white powder.
You are sure to leave feeling vibrant and healthy.
I literally have not stopped bragging about my trip to the Hodge Lodge since I left a month ago, so I’m more happy to use this review as an excuse to brag some more! For our one year wedding anniversary, my husband and I wanted to find a place that was both secluded and comfortable. Before we started our search, we dreamed up a beachfront home on a private island with turquoise waters and white sand. A few clicks later, our dream was completely realized when we stumbled across this listing. If you can imagine, the island and the house are even more beautiful than they appear in the pictures. Here’s a breakdown of our experience:
Booking: Andrea replied to our inquiry within the hour and was incredibly helpful in helping us pick the dates. We had the entire trip booked in under 24 hours.
Arrival: Andrea set everything up for us before we arrived. We had transportation waiting for us the second we landed. We opted to have groceries included in our package so when we got in the car at the airport, our groceries were already waiting for us. The house was immaculate and welcoming and unlike any vacation home we’ve ever stayed in. It has a lot of character and yet feels luxurious.
Trip: My husband and I had planned on doing absolutely nothing. We thought we’d just relax on the beach for our week. We were completely surprised by how much we ended up wanting to do and how easy it was to arrange activities (Leonard Forbes and COMO Hotel helped a lot). We went out on a boat most days, enjoyed fishing and snorkeling and paddle boarding. Parrot Cay is a magical island and we felt so blessed to spend a week there. It was a perfect mix of romantic, adventurous and relaxing. We’re already planning our next trip, this time with some friends in tow.
We stayed at the Hodge Lodge with my two sons ages 9 and 13 and another family with a daughter 16. The house is beautiful and very well furnished. I recommend doing as much cooking as possible there as it has everything you need or want. The boys spent days fishing in the private lagoon and snorkeling on the private beach. They saw all kinds of fish inculuding a shark and a baracuda. The use of the golf kart was a huge hit. The house has family games which we played everynight at the large round table. We spent sometime at the Como resort. It is stunning. The spa is perfect and the pool is a fun place for kids. The beach chairs at the resort are luxorious as are the towels. The prices are also exhorbitant so be prepared. This house is very secluded. It is a private island getway in every respect. A dream!!
I rarely take solo trips but I was under deadline and had to finish my novel and desperately needed peace and solitude. I did some searching online and found Parrot Cay to be the most private and accommodating island. I found the Hodge Lodge on this site and when I told my editor I was headed to PC, he didn’t believe me. He said that the only privately owned houses belonged to celebrities. But it wasn’t too good to be true, I sent an inquiry late on a Friday night and had a warm response from one of the home owners, Andrea, by Saturday morning. Hodge Lodge is the only non-COMO privately owned property. The house was available for the following week and it took us only a few emails to set everything up. Andrea had transportation arranged for me along with a grocery drop off so all I had to do was show up. I spent the most relaxing, quiet and productive week at the Hodge Lodge and finished my novel on time. It’s my new secret weapon.
I took my wife and newborn son to the Hodge Lodge for our first family vacation and it was the most memorable trip of my life. I didn’t know anything about Parrot Cay other than the fact that it was extremely exclusive and only celebrities like Bruce Willis and Donna Karan have houses there. I did a search on VRBO and the Hodge Lodge came up first because it had the most reviews, always a positive sign. Here I am now, four months later, writing my own review. The house was very special. It was rustic yet very comfortable and clean. My wife loved the decor and I was very impressed with the special touches like an outdoor shower and grill and wine cooler. The best part though, is that the house is situated on a private beach. We hung around there most of the week. My wife spent a lot of time with our son on the hammock overlooking the endless ocean. Every night we tried to find the words to discuss how beautiful our day was. We can’t wait to come back when our son is old enough to enjoy more activities.
One of my girlfriends found an article in Forbes about Parrot Cay and suggested it as a destination for our yearly R&R trip. As far as I knew, Parrot Cay was basically a private island that no one, other than A list celebrities had the key to. We were so excited when we came across this listing, we prefer a house to a hotel (which was the only other option on the island) so when we found out it was available we were thrilled.
The house is unlike any place we've ever stayed in. It had everything we needed. The kitchen is big and open, sprawling into a dining and living area. It was perfect for social cooking, which is our thing. There were lots of little special touches that we really appreciated like a wine refrigerator, local artwork and screened porches off the master bedrooms. It literally stands over the turquoise sea, so the views are unencumbered and breathtaking. The house itself is just really special. It both made us feel completely removed from our urban lives and comfortably at home.
As much fun as we had inside, outside is where the WOW is. We spent a lot of time snorkeling in the private beach. We also walked over to the COMO beachfront and enjoyed some delicious cocktails at their pool bar, Lotus. They were incredibly kind to us and treated us like we were their guests. On our last two days we had a boat ride arranged for us so that we could go fishing...it was so much fun, we highly recommend it.
The only negative thing I have to say about the Hodge Lodge is that it will spoil you! We used to change vacation destinations each year but decided after this royal experience, we’re never going anywhere else.
We (my husband, myself, and two kids--ages 15 and 10) got home last night after a wonderful five days in Hodge Lodge. It was the perfect thing after a busy couple of months. The house is wonderful with a wonderful story and everyone who helped us out was fantastic. I loved looking at the book you put together of the history of the house, and then taking our own photos in the same spots as the ones in the book. We'd love to come back at some point. In the meantime, thanks again for all your help.
Staying at this property is like owning your own private island with white sand beaches, a beautiful ocean, and a comfortable and charming place to lay your head. In addition, it's an easy walk over to the resort and a quick boat ride to the other islands!
A few friends and I stayed at this property and we had a great time relaxing on the wrap around porch, watching the sunset, swimming, snorkeling, fishing, and pretending that we owned the island. There is a stretch of sand right in front of the house and it's totally private! We had a great time with so much space to either go off on our own or to gather together and chat or play poker. The kitchen is fully equipped and we were able to prepare everything including our freshly caught seafood. I really enjoyed the accommodations and it's perfect for a romantic getaway or a big gathering. The lodge is perfectly built with separate entrances, an outdoor shower, and multiple porches. The view from the upstairs porch is amazing and I miss watching the sun set.
As you can tell, I loved my vacation. It's an affordable option to rent a house on a beautiful island especially when considering that the other houses on this island rent for many times more. The property is charming and a bit rustic, but it's comfortable and feels like a vacation home. Can't wait to go back!
