This charming carriage house was built in 1867 and is attached to a main house which is included in many of Charleston's daily tours. It embodies many things Charleston stands for. Lofted ceilings, exposed brick and wood floors give way to a cozy 900 square foot hidden gem. It boasts a full kitchen and living room area equipped with a pull out couch. The carriage house includes a 'lofted' upstairs with a king size bed, walk in closet and full bathroom. Just steps outside the front door is a picturesque in ground pool, surrounded by palm trees. Easy access to historical streets, Charleston Harbor and everything downtown has to offer.
The Charleston Food and Wine Festival, Charleston Fashion Week and Picolo Spoleto are just a few of the cultural events happening year round. This cozy getaway home would be the perfect setting for honeymooners, sailors passing through or anyone looking to enjoy some time in the heart of historic Charleston.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this Carriage House. The proximity to everything was great. We have already recommended it to friends. I would suggest that the description include more info about the fully equipped kitchen in case families would like to stay there. Also, I would like to suggest that you put a rubber mat in the bathtub to avoid slipping and falling. I would also suggest that you supply either soap/ shower jel for the bathtub, shampoo, and kleenex. You might want to add a throw for the downstairs couch. It was very cold in Charleston when we were there so I brought the extra quit to the living room to wrap up in. The place was warm but one just felt like curling up on the couch to enjoy the surroundings.
Location was great, kitchen well equipped ; having a large pool patio and use of a gas grill was wonderful. Only suggestion, is that you may want to consider adding a DVD player.
The property is really lovely and well maintained. There is a beautifully landscaped pool/garden area that we would have enjoyed if it had not been raining. The loft is very comfortable and quite spacious for two people. The stairs are quite steep going to the second floor, so a word of caution to anyone challenged by climbing stairs. Parking in the main house drive is an added bonus since parking is so difficult in Charleston - the owner was very accommodating about coordinating our parking in the single car long driveway so that no one was inconvenienced. Wonderful neighborhood near King Street and just a block away from the Queen Street Market where you can find basic grocery items along with wonderfully prepared sandwiches and salads. Charleston is an amazing destination and the Loft is the perfect Home-Away-From-Home accommodation.
This place is exactly as the photos appear. Walking in my wife and I were amazed by how nice it was. Complimentary bottle of wine was a nice way to start our trip. Everything was so close with a nice short walk! I can't say enough how much we enjoyed our stay...we will for sure be back in the future!!
We stayed here for a long weekend getaway. The loft is lovely; perfect for two people. We loved being able to walk to almost everything. This is a perfect location! The previous reviews helped in explaining the stairs. They are perfectly stable and safe, but probably not for anyone who is afraid of heights. We had good communication with the owner and the property manager. We went on a great walking tour by Tommy Dew - would highly recommend him. We ate at so many wonderful places. If you have a car, it is worth the drive to go over the new Ravenel Bridge to Mt. Pleasant and the draw bridge to Sullivan's Island. So much beauty in this area. We would highly recommend the Loft on Queen for your Charleston stay. We are already talking about when we can go back.
My husband and I stayed here for a four day romantic getaway, and we found the property to be just perfect for us! We've used homeaway.com for several of our past vacations, and I must say that this one was one of the best we've stayed in. The converted carriage house is extremely clean, modern in it's renovation, very cozy and welcoming. Upon arrival, we were greeted with fresh flowers and a bottle of wine. Linens and towels were provided and were lush. Furnishings were comfortable and tasteful, and the kitchen was appointed with everything we needed. Best of all, we felt like even though we were so close to all the action, the neighborhood was extremely quiet, and we had complete privacy tucked away in the back of a beautiful single house.
We had perfect weather while we were there with temperatures in the 80s, so we were even able to enjoy the pool for a rare October treat!
The location of this place is perfect. It is just a few short blocks to Meeting Street and the heart of historic downtown. Because of it's central location, we were able to get to all our favorite spots in town, including the College of Charleston campus, upper King Street for all the fun bars and restaurants, lower King Street for all the great shopping, the Battery for ogling the historic mansions, and any part of the historic district from the old Citadel and park to Rainbow Row and well beyond. We didn't get in our car once since we could walk everywhere. I've spent many trips in Charleston, always staying in the historic district, but this particular locale was far and away the most convenient and best. We would definitely stay here again.
One word of caution, if you have a fear of heights, you might not enjoy the steps. They are slat stairs, so one can see through the rise, and they are open on both sides with a handrail on only the right side. My husband and I thought them to be beautiful and we appreciated the airiness they created by not closing off the room. They are a completely secure and safe set of stairs, obviously, but I know my mother would have been grounded on the first floor, because of her fear. Then again, we would've never brought her on a romantic getaway with us... haha
Fantastic place! Fantastic location! Fantastic city! Highly recommended!
The amazing location puts you steps away from Charleston's most amazing shopping, restaurants, trendy galleries, museums, farmers markets and night life. With scenic golf and beaches just a short drive away.
