Traveling with a baby or toddler: We are baby/toddler ready! We set up a pack-n-play (purchased new annually) with organic bedding for sleeping. Plus, we've got an infant-to-toddler tub that sits right in the shower, baby's own hooded towel, and a high chair and/or toddler seat.

The property is our ongoing, 20 year project. Chickens were added in the fall (guests are welcome to their free-range, organic eggs). We're planning for a new, larger vegetable garden in the spring, and goats sometime before the kids leave for college.
We value our guests' privacy and comfort above all. Please don't hesitate to ask for anything you need to make your stay more enjoyable.
Johanna Carr purchased this farmhouse in 2006
The property offers the ideal mountain experience: Gorgeous views, without the falling-over-a-cliff landscape which usually accompanies it! Secluded, rolling hills dotted with cows, yet close to downtown. Farmland punctuated by mountain and equestrian homes. We've never had a visitor who hasn't commented on the serenity and the beauty of our property.
My wife and I visited Asheville for our anniversary, and we were hoping for a peaceful get-away, with plenty of design esthetic that was still close enough to the city & sights for us to take it all in. This cottage was that dream come true. Every single detail of this home is so perfectly thought out! We couldn't have asked for a better experience.
The home was immaculate when we arrived. There was a thoughtful welcome packet to help us feel at home, and familiarize us with the area. She had a fire-pit prepared for arrival - so on our first night, we sliced the delicious pound cake she left us, made some hot chocolate with the packets and local cream she left and started a cozy fire on the porch to cuddle up next to. It was the perfect way to start our trip!
We experienced everything you'd hope for when you rent a home. Perfectly clean, absolutely comfortable, great design elements, with complete privacy. Not to mention the perfect natural light that all of the windows gather up for you.
Johanna was very responsive when we had any questions or requests, including graciously providing plenty of suggestions for restaurants, shops and sights. If we make it out to Asheville again, there's no question where we're staying.
My husband and I have always preferred staying in vacation rentals while traveling, but now that we have a baby, a clean, comfortable, spacious rental is a must. This rental is absolutely immaculate! From the polished concrete floors to the beautiful counters in the kitchen and the sparkling white bathroom, I had no reservations about letting my 9 month old crawl all over the place and explore his temporary home.
A vacation rental such as this far exceeds a hotel room when traveling with a baby. The exceptionally accommodating owner made sure we had all the comforts of home, including a brand new pack and play (with sheets), an infant bath tub, a high chair, and a changing table. Other thoughtful touches included a package of baby wipes in the changing table and several baby books displayed on the windowsill near the crib. It made traveling with a baby so easy! There were also locally made muffins and scones, yogurt, and even k-cups for the coffee maker (cream and sugar provided as well). It was so nice not to have to worry about running out in the morning to find a store and purchase these things on day one. The kitchen is well-equipped and we prepared several meals there.
The rental is spacious and beautiful. Having a separate bedroom where we could put our baby to sleep in the evenings so that my husband and I could enjoy the evening relaxing by the fire pit or watching tv, without having to tiptoe and whisper was wonderful. We were all so comfortable, we really didn't want to leave!
The owner and her family are fabulous people. They truly want their guests to feel at home. They are available if/when you need them, but completely respect your privacy otherwise. The rental is even nicer than the pictures demonstrate. The value of this place is incredible. My family and I love to travel and don't often visit the same place twice, but the beauty of Asheville and the comfort and ease of travel the farmhouse provides has convinced us to return this summer. Thanks Johanna and family!
My husband, myself, and our 8 year old son absolutely loved our stay at this beautiful little getaway! It was extremely clean, had everything you needed while you were staying there, was decorated like it came straight off HGTV, and it felt like you were right at home! The outside patio area offered a great secluded view of the mountain side and we had a great time sitting out and looking at the stars! Although you felt like you were out in the middle of nowhere it was very conveniently located to all of the areas many attractions. Johanna was very prompt with all our communications and offered up some great restaurant recommendations. We want to make a return trip this summer and will be staying here again!
We absolutely LOVE this place and this was our second time renting here. It's an ideal hide away. The location is very private (but still has great wifi), seems remote, yet you can still be in Asheville in about 25 minutes. The view from each window is beautiful and serene just as nature intended. The rental really is even more gorgeous in person. So many details in the decorating. You'll find yourself marveling at the perfect blend of femininity and masculinity. Just outside your unit, there's a beautiful patio with a grill, table & chairs, fire pit, and outdoor sofa. Coming back inside...this place is immaculate. Bedding for the bedroom and the spare murphy bed were above excellent in quality, the kitchen had everything I needed to make meals, all the dishes are eclectic, beautiful and still practical. The bathroom shower is totally luxurious. It's beautifully tiled and completely enclosed. My favorite part was drinking coffee and reading my Bible at the dining room table right next to the east facing window and enjoying the morning sunbeams peering through the tall trees. Even on a few foggy mornings, it was still breathtaking. The owner, Johanna, has been a very pleasant and professional person to work with. During our stay I had a few random questions and she was always quick to respond. I really hope to return next year too.
We first fell in love with the online pictures which suited our party's style for design. The ride leading into the property was just so stunning and beautiful. We were beyond ecstatic about the property upon arrival. It was more then we expected. It was very airy, comfortable and felt like home. The property was beautifully maintained, clean and just simply serene with it's beautiful views.
Johanna was so wonderful and caring. She was very knowledgeable about places to visit and EAT. We love food. Her children (who are so adorable) came down to bring us a birthday treat. We loved that there was a Keurig and a kitchen to cook in.
We were close to everything that we wanted to do. Downtown, Biltmore, Blue Ridge, cafe's and local restaurants.
We loved it so much that I already booked my next stay for 2015 with my family.
My Mother and I love architecture, design, and the holidays, so a trip to Biltmore was a must. I searched many sites for a place to stay and Luckily came across Johanna's Modern Farmhouse cottage. The pictures and descriptions made me excited to book my stay and when I arrived I was happy to see the real life was just as good if not better. Beautiful view inside and out. We arrived to a spotless, well taken care of cottage with everything one would need for a relaxing stay (towels, body wash, lotion, hair dryer, pots, pans, extra blankets, ironing board, iron, Kuerig, board games, and more) The beds were very comfortable and I got some great sleep after a long day of sightseeing. I enjoyed using the designer shower, and relaxing on the comfy couch before heading to bed. Johanna even left us fresh cream/milk and eggs from their chickens Charlotte and #1 Ricky Bobby plus helpful information for our stay. She was there if needed but you definitely had your privacy. My only regret was not booking one more day just to spend in the cottage or out on the patio overlooking the property. My Mom and I would definitely come back and stay here. We have already recommended the cottage to friends. Thank you to Johanna and Jason for your hospitality!
Our stay here was absolutely amazing. The guest house had a great outdoor sitting area with a view of mountains. The decor was adorable. I took extra showers because the bathroom was so cute. The location was also great. Just 20 minutes away from Asheville and all the attractions!
Johanna was so thoughtful and gave us great recommendations.
