THE RIVER HOUSE @ BREAKFAST POINT

Grayling Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Unique Luxury Home on Private River Lot

Enjoy a wonderful luxury home experience on one of northern Michigan's most famous rivers. The two-and-a-half bathroom home has three bedrooms and two loft rooms that are versatile and can accommodate a number of guests. The outdoor deck (riverside), the many windows, and the long kitchen bar are among the many unique features. However, the Rumford fireplace with Black River Michigan stone on the exterior is the centerpiece attraction. The house also features a three-zone geothermal heating and cooling system. The upper lofts are reached by ascending an iron-rod spiral staircase.

The ground-floor bedrooms feature foam beds. The master bathroom includes a stone-tiled Jacuzzi tub and shower highlighted with inlaid Petoskey stone. WiFi access and Dish Network satellite television are also available. In addition, you can access your personal Netflix account via Apple TV if desired.

Outdoor activities include easy trail access to the nearby Rayburn property (state-owned) and/or Hanson Hills on the edge of town for hiking, biking, snowshoeing, downhill and cross country skiing, or disc golf, depending on the season. In addition, there are miles of two-tracks, as well as hiking and skiing trails in nearby national forests. Kayak and canoe rental is just five minutes away in downtown Grayling. The local bike shop also has rentals for the town's many bike paths. And of course, the AuSable River provides some of the best fly-fishing in the country!

River access is just steps away from the house, where the water is clear and shallow, and the river bottom sandy for leisurely walks in the great AuSable.

Come and enjoy the river amid privacy and cedar trees all around.

Nathan and Randi Foster purchased the property in 2006, returning it to the Foster Family after three decades of various ownership.

In 1975, Nathan’s grandfather Dud Foster purchased a large swath of land at the headwaters of the AuSable, near Grayling, named by early trappers as Breakfast Point. Dud eventually subdivided his holding into several parcels. He saw something in the river and surrounding cedar swamp that intrigued him. He turned the swamp into little hobbits of habitability one truck load of sand and a handful of quarry stones at time.

Nathan’s other grandfather, Art Lindauer, who lived his life as an architect and farmer, designed the home. Inspired by famous architects before him, Art’s vision and unique ideas have come to life inside and out. Some notable features include stained concrete floors, spiral staircase, natural light, large windows, diamond windows in the lofts, the Rumford fireplace, exterior EFIS stucco with a splash of color. The drawings of the River House at Breakfast Point hang in the walkway overlooking the great room in tribute to his efforts.

We are proud to offer a unique, modern, luxury home on the banks of the Au Sable River at a place called Breakfast Point.

WONDERFUL HOME ON THE AU SABLE!

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed our stay at the MI River house @ breakfast point. It's such a beautiful home right on the Au Sable river. The river is shallow near the home which is nice and safe.
The house is well appointed with all the amenities - a full kitchen with cookware and utensils. The Keurig coffee maker with k-cups provided was very nice. The mattresses in all the bedrooms were very comfortable. The loft space is lovely to sit and enjoy some reading time. There is a nice back yard with a hearth for lighting a fire.
All the restaurants and stores are just a mile away which is so convenient if you choose not to cook. Canoe rentals are also just a mile away. Great location.
The neighbors Scott & Tina are friendly and helpful.
We truly felt at home here. There is no place else we'd rather stay on our next visit to Grayling area.

WONDERFUL WEEKEND ON THE AUSABLE!

  • 5 of 5
The photos and description do not do this home justice. It's beautiful with all of the comforts of home, nestled in the woods with walk-out access to the river. Upon arrival the home was very clean, with all details attended to (Keurig coffee maker with coffee and tea provided, towels so thick that I wanted to keep showering, internet and satellite tv to name a few). We spent a glorious 4 days canoeing, kayaking, campfires, s'mores, and simply enjoying the river. The water is shallow and great spot for kids to play. Although the listing says the home sleeps 6, we brought a couple of air mattresses and put 2 teenage boys upstairs and they loved having their own space. The large deck is perfect because it accommodates those who love sun or shade. We're already talking about a winter stay, and plan to come back again next summer.

What a wonderful river house experience! A beautiful, spacious home privately situated on the river. It was much larger than we expected and the 2 loft rooms offered extra play quarters for our children - one became a LEGO room and one a reading room. With ages 5, 11 and nearly 14, it can be difficult to find a place and activities that they can all enjoy. This was not a problem on this vacation. While the older 2 went kayaking on the river, our youngest went mussel, snail or crawfish hunting in the river. The very expansive deck offered wonderful shade so we could catch up on our reading or play board games. The boys were able to do some fly fishing in the evenings as well, while the girls watched with a fire in the chimnea, getting the s'mores ready. We ate mostly at the house, and it was wonderful with the spacious and well equipped kitchen. A great family vacation that none of us wanted to leave!
