Enjoy a wonderful luxury home experience on one of northern Michigan's most famous rivers. The two-and-a-half bathroom home has three bedrooms and two loft rooms that are versatile and can accommodate a number of guests. The outdoor deck (riverside), the many windows, and the long kitchen bar are among the many unique features. However, the Rumford fireplace with Black River Michigan stone on the exterior is the centerpiece attraction. The house also features a three-zone geothermal heating and cooling system. The upper lofts are reached by ascending an iron-rod spiral staircase.
The ground-floor bedrooms feature foam beds. The master bathroom includes a stone-tiled Jacuzzi tub and shower highlighted with inlaid Petoskey stone. WiFi access and Dish Network satellite television are also available. In addition, you can access your personal Netflix account via Apple TV if desired.
Outdoor activities include easy trail access to the nearby Rayburn property (state-owned) and/or Hanson Hills on the edge of town for hiking, biking, snowshoeing, downhill and cross country skiing, or disc golf, depending on the season. In addition, there are miles of two-tracks, as well as hiking and skiing trails in nearby national forests. Kayak and canoe rental is just five minutes away in downtown Grayling. The local bike shop also has rentals for the town's many bike paths. And of course, the AuSable River provides some of the best fly-fishing in the country!
River access is just steps away from the house, where the water is clear and shallow, and the river bottom sandy for leisurely walks in the great AuSable.
Come and enjoy the river amid privacy and cedar trees all around.
Nathan and Randi Foster purchased the property in 2006, returning it to the Foster Family after three decades of various ownership.
In 1975, Nathan’s grandfather Dud Foster purchased a large swath of land at the headwaters of the AuSable, near Grayling, named by early trappers as Breakfast Point. Dud eventually subdivided his holding it into several parcels. He saw something in the river and surrounding cedar swamp that intrigued him. He turned the swamp into little hobbits of habitability one truck load of sand and a handful of Petosky stones at time.
Nathan’s other grandfather Art Lindauer, who lived his life as an architect and farmer, designed the home. Inspired by famous architects before him, Art’s vision and unique ideas have come to life inside and out. Some notable features include stained concrete floors, spiral staircase, natural light, large windows, diamond windows in the lofts, the Rumford fireplace, tight white stucco with a splash of color. The drawings of the River House at Breakfast Point hang in the walkway overlooking the great room in tribute to his efforts.
We are proud to offer a unique, modern, luxury home on the banks of the Au Sable River at a place called Breakfast Point.

We enjoyed a Winter weekend getaway at this lovely, well-equipped vacation home on the Au Sable River. The setting was easy to get to, yet secluded and peaceful. We loved the views of the forest and river from the home. The house was set up well for rentals and we felt very welcome. The design was wonderful and the owners thought of many amenities. It was wonderful to use the wood fireplace. We would like to return. The only down side was no large kitchen table and the bar stools for the kitchen counter were not comfortable for us to use. Overall though, it was a great place in a lovely setting with all the amenities.
Rented the River House as a New Years get away and it was perfect. The setting allowed us to disconnect from the everyday hustle but provided all the amenities to reconnect to the important things...movies we wanted to catch up on, sitting in front of a real fire, looking at the water flow by. Definitely would recommend
We rented this house for Thanksgiving Weekend and were really impressed with how beautiful the house and setting were. The view of the river from every room on the back of the house is stunning, especially at sunset. The house itself is new with a great layout and comfortable furniture. We rent houses in northern Michigan at least twice a year, and this was by far the best maintained and equipped that we've encountered. Well-equipped kitchen, lots of pantry items, a variety of K-cups for the coffee maker, plenty of fire wood, Dish TV with a couple of premium channels, internet connection, plus the owners arranged for a pack n play and high chair for our daughter. There's a nice walking trail through the woods, and the yard is entirely secluded by tall trees so it's a very peaceful setting. River access is also great if you are visiting in the summer. It's obvious that the owners and property manager take a great deal of care maintaining this property.
We rented this beautiful house for Labor Day weekend. The group included my husband, 4 year old daughter, my brother and sister in law, my 10 year old nephew and myself. The house is brand new with great amenities. There are 3 downstairs bedrooms (2 queen, bunk beds) which had plenty of space and comfy beds. There were also 2 bedrooms upstairs, one empty and one with futon. That space could totally be utilized for more people! There is limited seating inside, with 5 bar stools and a card table & chairs. I do wish they had a dining room table for family meals. The property is beautiful, and right on the au sable. There were 2 kayaks at the house to use, which we did daily. The owner's father lives next door, and he let us borrow another canoe & kayak to outfit the family. We spent an afternoon heading downriver and planned a picnic lunch. There are also nice trails on property for walking or biking. Overall a great weekend to relax and enjoy time outdoors!
This is a beautiful property on the AuSable River. Not far from Grayling, the house seems like miles away from cares and work! All of the furnishings and amenities are top-notch - from plush bath towels, to kitchen ware, appliances and the Keurig Platinum coffee maker. The home was spotless when we arrived, and every detail was attended to. Between kayaking, relaxing, fishing my near-by home waters, and just watching the river, this was a perfect get away. I hope to return next year! (Great place to celebrate a birthday!) Thanks for sharing this beauitiful space.
This home is located in a very private setting on the AuSable but is very convenient to Grayling and to prime fishing stretches of the river. Our visit included a kayaking outing and numerous fly fishing trips to the "Holy Waters" stretch of the river.
The home is architecturally unique and provides great views of woods or the river from all rooms. It is well equipped and provided everything we needed for a pleasant and comfortable stay.
