About Wayne & Kimberly Pitts

The owners, Kim and Wayne, moved to Albuquerque for graduate school and fell in love with the southwest. After spending three years living in Oaxaca, Mexico, the couple decided to build their first home to raise their two boys. You'll see custom features heavily influenced by their time in Mexico throughout the home.

Their oldest son is studying at UNM.

Wayne and Kim completed their doctoral degrees at UNM and their first professional jobs required them to leave the state. Currently, Wayne resides in Research Triangle Park near Raleigh, NC and Kim is a university professor in Kentucky.

Wayne & Kimberly Pitts purchased this house in 2000

Why Wayne & Kimberly Pitts chose Albuquerque

This house is perfectly situated with easy access to I-40. The owners invested in this part of town because they enjoyed the appeal of living in the southwestern quadrant of Albuquerque. It's close to Old Town and there were a lot of nearby attractions for children including the world-class zoo, the aquarium and biopark, the Children's Museum, and the Museum of Natural History. There are also some fantastic New Mexican restaurants nearby.

What makes this house unique

Because we built the home using a custom builder, we were able to add some special features. From the moment you enter the hand-carved front gate in the courtyard to the carved posts on the pergola on the back patio, you will notice the special details of this house. All of the furnishings have a unique history and many were made by Mexican artisans.

In the fall, the smell of roasted green chile fills the air and the home is perfectly situated to enjoy the sights of the Sandia Mountains. Don't be surpised to see a hot air balloon fly directly over the house.

The house we'll occupy on every visit from now on.

  • 5 of 5

The photos don't do this house justice. The house is quaint and comfortable with every detail thought of. We have many food allergies in my family, so we cook and eat 95% of our meals at home. The kitchen did not disappoint. It is small, but the owners have supplied every kitchen necessity. We appreciated having all the utensils. The decor is southwestern, but tastefully done. There's always something to look at, and each time you're in a room, you'll find something you didn't notice before. The backyard is wonderful for hanging out with your dogs while they roam (and bark at the husky over the wall) while soaking in some of the beautiful NM sunshine. We didn't use the kiva outside, but firewood was there if we had had the chance. The master bed and pillows are so comfortable. Plenty of drawer and closet space for everything we brought with us for a week long stay. We were sad to leave. The house felt like home-everyone was comfortable and happy there!

The owner was very accommodating when I had to change our trip at the 11th hour because my mother was unexpectedly hospitalized. Thank you, Wayne for your generosity and understanding! We will definitely be back soon.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This house was everything we expected - charming, comfortable, convenient - and everything we needed in a vacation house. It was nice to have a garage to park our car in, and separate bedrooms for our teens, so everyone had a private space to relax. We also enjoyed time together in the living room by the fireplace and having a relaxed breakfast together before starting our day of sightseeing and museum-hopping. We could not have asked for anything better. The owners/hosts were very helpful and accommodating. We would absolutely choose this property again on another trip to Albuquerque.

Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

The ultimate complement that one could lavish on a vacation rental would be to say that you would like this home to be yours. After our recent stay at this wonderful home in Albuquerque, our family would unanimously assign the title of "best VRBO rental," to this place. We have been staying at vacation rentals for a number of years, so we speak from experience. This is a beautiful, comfortable, welcoming home, furnished exquistely with the New Mexican and Mexican artifacts that draw us to this unique area in the first place. The house is impeccably clean and well supplied with every household need. It is located in a very quiet gated community on the southwest side of town with easy access to I40 and I25. Not long after our arrival, Mrs. Pitts called to make sure everything was O.K. and to answer any questions we might have. In retrospect, the only question I should have asked was: "Is this house for sale?" We would return in a heartbeat! This is VRBO at its best!

Our second time

  • 5 of 5

We had another wonderful stay in this comfortable and well equipped home. Wayne and Kim provide a lovely and warm home for a family of up to 6 people. It's quiet, safe, and located within easy tech of central streets and highways. They went out of their way to accommodate our special requests and late arrival time, and we are very grateful to have their home as a family vacation stay. Thank you!!

Perfect for Family with Kids

  • 5 of 5

This was the cleanest and most tastefully decorated vacation house we have ever stayed in. The house is even nicer than it appears on the VRBO web site. We cooked several meals in the kitchen and on the outdoor grill, and we easily found all the utensils and pots and pans that we needed. The owners' instructions were very clear, and they e-mailed ahead of time and called while we were at the house to make sure that everything was fine. The house is easy driving distance to Old Town and the museums and is very easy to get to. Highly recommended. We will try to stay here again the next time we visit Albuquerque.
