The owners, Kim and Wayne, moved to Albuquerque for graduate school and fell in love with the southwest. After spending three years living in Oaxaca, Mexico, the couple decided to build their first home to raise their two boys. You'll see custom features heavily influenced by their time in Mexico throughout the home.

Their oldest son is studying at UNM.

Wayne and Kim completed their doctoral degrees at UNM and their first professional jobs required them to leave the state. Currently, Wayne resides in Research Triangle Park near Raleigh, NC and Kim is a university professor in Kentucky.

Wayne & Kimberly Pitts purchased this house in 2000

This house is perfectly situated with easy access to I-40. The owners invested in this part of town because they enjoyed the appeal of living in the southwestern quadrant of Albuquerque. It's close to Old Town and there were a lot of nearby attractions for children including the world-class zoo, the aquarium and biopark, the Children's Museum, and the Museum of Natural History. There are also some fantastic New Mexican restaurants nearby.

Because we built the home using a custom builder, we were able to add some special features. From the moment you enter the hand-carved front gate in the courtyard to the carved posts on the pergola on the back patio, you will notice the special details of this house. All of the furnishings have a unique history and many were made by Mexican artisans.

In the fall, the smell of roasted green chile fills the air and the home is perfectly situated to enjoy the sights of the Sandia Mountains. Don't be surpised to see a hot air balloon fly directly over the house.

PERFECT FOR FAMILY WITH KIDS

  • 5 of 5
This was the cleanest and most tastefully decorated vacation house we have ever stayed in. The house is even nicer than it appears on the VRBO web site. We cooked several meals in the kitchen and on the outdoor grill, and we easily found all the utensils and pots and pans that we needed. The owners' instructions were very clear, and they e-mailed ahead of time and called while we were at the house to make sure that everything was fine. The house is easy driving distance to Old Town and the museums and is very easy to get to. Highly recommended. We will try to stay here again the next time we visit Albuquerque.

DEFINITE REPEATER!

  • 5 of 5
Lovely, lovely property! The photos on line did not do it justice. Shopping for groceries was a breeze with COSTCO and Albertsons close by. Plenty of cooking utensils and serving pieces to facilitate a dinner party for my 100 year old mom. The owner was very pleasant and accommodating. This property is truly a home away from home!

COMFORTABLE HOME IN THE WEST SUBURBS OF ALBUQUERQUE

  • 4 of 5
I traveled with three other family members to New Mexico; my wife, a seven year old and my mother in law in her mid-60's. Since the house is all on one floor, it suited my mother in law well. The back yard is large and closed in so you don't need to worry about young children running willy nilly down the street. :-)

The owner (Wayne) was very accommodating and responsive. Overall, I found it to be a nice house and a good value.

AWESOME!!

  • 5 of 5
Our stay in this wonderful home was quite awesome.Upon our arrival we were given fresh baked muffins....which were absolutely delicious! This just set the tone for our entire visit. The house was quite cozy and comfortable while being very tastefully decorated. The house was immaculately clean and the kitchen had all the necessities (and more) and there were plenty of clean linens and towels. The courtyard provided us with a very relaxing place to unwind after a hard day of sightseeing and shopping. We hope to visit Albuquerque again and will definitely stay here again!!

SECURE AND NICELY FURNISHED

  • 5 of 5
My family and I rented this property twice in March and found the owners very nice and accommodating. The home was beautifully decorated and comfortable. The backyard was nicely taken care of and we especially liked having a garage in which to park. We recommend this property to prospective renters and would stay again when the house is available during our trips to Albuquerque.

WONDERFUL HOME AWAY FROM HOME!

  • 5 of 5
We would definitely rent this home again! Everything was perfect and very clean. The house is really charming and comfortable for our party of 5. Wonderful kitchen for cooking too with the grocery store a few blocks away. The house is conveniently located just minutes off HWY 40, making getting around Albuquerque very easy. The owners are real easy to work with too.
