My parents bought this property when i was 4, and all my childhood memories remain in the walls of this house. I used to live in Paris when i grew up, and we would go to this house every single weekend! After studying biology at the Pasteur Institute (Paris) for several years, I moved with my wife and our two kids to Toronto, where i do research at the University of Toronto.

Stephen Girardin purchased this cottage in 1975

When we bought this house in 1975, my parents fell in love with the location: so quiet, so secluded, yet so close to Paris (1h drive). The house is surrounded by rolling hills of open farmland, and the only noise you hear is birds singing!

However, when we bought the house, it was in a very rough shape. The roof was leaking and we had to change 500 square meters of roof tiles!! There was no toilet, no bathroom, no heat, and only the kitchen and a bedroom were 'livable'. After nearly 40 years of renovations, we uncovered the original gem, fully renovated 275 square meters of living space, kept the original charm of the old farmhouse, but brought comfort and high-end finish throughout.

ALL GOOD AT THE GITE!

  • 5 of 5
We had a great time at this home. My family was met by friendly Nina and found everything as promised. It is a large country house built when Napoleon was emperor! Our gps was helpful in finding neat stuff. Some of the best was Pierrefond and Longpont. The church in Longpont was destroyed in the revolution. L'Abbaye restaurant was excellent.
The house is kid friendly and comfortable . We had all we needed. A true French country house....very private. Chateau Thierry has trains hourly to Paris .
We all had a great time. As Canadians we were grateful for our visit to Vimy Ridge where our Canadian tour guide gave us a tour in a driving rain!
Thank you!

MAGNIFIQUE MAISON DE FAMILLE À LA CAMPAGNE -

  • 5 of 5

FRENCH COUNTRY LIVING AT ITS FINEST

  • 5 of 5
Our family (me, my husband, our 12 yr-old daughter and my mother) just returned from a 2 week stay at Montmanjeon. After a long day of flying from Phoenix to Los Angeles and then onto Paris, we were pleased that Stephen’s directions to the home were so detailed and accurate. We arrived at the home and were greeted by Nina, the house manager, who is a delightful woman. She had a fire roaring in the living room fireplace and offered us coffee. The house was perfect! We loved the beautiful stone walls, the rough-hewn beams and the cozy décor of the home. Although the home is older, the modern touches made our stay so convenient. The kitchen was furnished with everything we needed and there were plenty of linens throughout.
We spent many days and evenings listening to our CDs and soaking in the beauty of the French countryside. The area is quiet and peaceful and the outdoor gardens are the perfect place to relax with a glass of champagne. Because it was our daughter’s first trip to Europe, we had a full itinerary. We visited Belleau Wood, Paris, Reims, Epernay, Soissons, Compiegne, Normandy, Belgium, Verdun and many other places. On the other hand, we enjoyed the local villages near the home such as Neuilly St. Front and La Ferte Milon (we ate lunch twice at the fabulous Les Ruines-delicious and I highly recommend!) We also spent lazy days at the home which included picnics outside and walks around the area. Our daughter loved the cows and horses.
The house is located conveniently near so many battle sites, cemeteries and monuments which were a treat for us as history buffs. The locals are so kind and helpful and made our stay wonderful. We especially enjoyed getting to know Nina and her husband Rene. Our daughter misses Nina already.
I would highly recommend this home for a family getaway. There are plenty of things to do in and around the home for people of all ages. We are already talking about going back. It was a fabulous vacation that made us fall in love with France and its people even more. Can’t wait to return.

BEAUTIFUL MONTMANJEON

  • 5 of 5
We arrived to the farm house in Montmanjeon with a warm welcome from the house manager Nina, after a 3 and 1/2 hour journey from Calais. Montmanjeon is a beautiful little hamlet surrounded by glorious French countryside.

The 18th century house is just stunning with lots of original period features and the warmth and comfort of modern family living with all amenities. We enjoyed the outdoor space and appreciated the peace and tranquility of the gardens. A perfect place to chill out and de-stress.

We enjoyed day trips to Epernay and the surrounding champagne countryside, and a visit to Reims Cathedral and Tui Palace.

We finished the holiday with a lovely meal at Abbey Hotel in Longpont which we would very much recommend.

The area is full of picturesque villages which are worth exploring.

We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this for a family holiday or escape from city life.

RELAXING AND BUBBLY!

  • 4 of 5
My husband and I joined friends and their children for a week in Montmanjeon and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is quite spacious, with a fully functioning kitchen and very comfortable beds. The grounds were lovely, and included many fruit trees, an herb garden, and fragrant roses bushes. My favourite spot to relax with a cup of tea or a glass of wine was the backyard, which had a weeping willow. My husband discovered a fraise des bois bush by the front of the house, but we didn't eat them all so later guests could enjoy them! We think Montmanjeon is a wonderful place for a summer holiday. It's also well situated in the champagne region and our drive along the champagne route and to Epernay, which contains many champagne houses, was a treat..

OUTSTANDING HOUSE AND GROUNDS

  • 5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our week in this magnificent house and its extensive grounds - ideal for two young children to play in safety. Very well equipped and in a very quiet rural location, this property provided all our party of three generations needed. The welcome and ongoing attention given by the house manager were exemplary. Thoroughly recommended!
