Richard Fort purchased this house in 2010
Because of the spectacular views and proximity to downtown Asheville.
We enjoy entertaining here. The kitchen, dining, and living are all in one large room. The music system makes the house especially livable. We can listen to jazz or blues at the table while the kids listen to "their stuff" downstairs; any can be muted independently, i.e. while a movie is being watched. Sunday morning breakfasts on one of the decks overlooking the city are nice. The sauna is very relaxing. It includes a six-foot bench, indirect lighting, and music.
We actually stayed at Richard's house in February 2013 but the calendar would not let me go back that far. I sometimes forget to go back and leave reviews. We use VRBO approximately 15-20 times a year all over the world and this house is the coolest so far. I love the architecture and layout as others have commented. (what else would you expect from a homeowner/architect) Richard used every space of this house to make it comfortable, functional, sleek. It was a real relaxing romantic getaway.
When you first drive up to the house it doesn't appear that it would be so spacious but when you go inside ... large. We really liked the long table off the kitchen where we set up all our working projects (yeah, still had to work even while on vacation) and enjoyed going downstairs to watch television. Didn't even realize there were two extra bedrooms downstairs. The washer/dryer worked perfectly. Loved the Japanese soaking tub.
A few things that were off the charts cool:
The views in the winter from the deck.
The lighting is perfect and can be adjusted to your every mood.
Sound system crazy .. it was the first time using Sonos and it was easy to download the app and use it off my ipad but I don't think you need to do that but it was great.
The kitchen ... I really liked it being open to the dining and living area upstairs.
Large Windows .. they made it seem like you were in the trees.
Richard was very accommodating even though we did not get to the house until very late at night.
Do not hesitate to experience this place ... it's has enough room and would be great for families not just couples.
My family and I have returned from a wonderful get-away to Asheville - and Richard's Home was the highlight! Every need was anticipated in how the home was furnished and supplied. We had the pleasure of briefly meeting Richard, the Homeowner - and he was extremely welcoming and helpful. The Sonos Music System is terrific and easy to use. The Home itself is sleek and gorgeous with wonderful views. We actually chose to stay in one night just to enjoy the large deck - and lovely view. We would love to return and stay here again!
My parents and I visited Asheville in January and although the weather was chilly, the views from almost every room in this house were breathtaking. The house has everything you need and we made most of our meals in. All of the details and design that were put into the house are fantastic. We are big architecture fans and would agree that the design and the layout of the house is both functional and beautiful. We were traveling with a few adults and it was great that we had two separate living rooms as to not disturb the late sleepers in our group.
Walking down into town is very doable (the house is on a hill), but we did not because of the cold. Plus, we had more fun staying cozy inside and taking in the views and the sunset every night. Grocery stores, coffee shop, places to eat, and other shops are incredibly close - never had to travel far. When we visit Asheville again we will definitely stay here.
We rented this house for nearly two weeks. From the moment we walked in the door we knew we were going to love it. It gave us privacy, beautiful views and quick access to the downtown - without the downtown noise we had to endure at another location. The owner was personable, helpful and has done a great job with this home. This space was great for us for several reasons. One of us home-offices, which means travel and working can be combined. This space let one work while the other relaxed and there was space for both. We are a couple with no kids, but we have family in the region so at various points in our stay we had family come and stay a night or two. They had their own privacy and we had ours, and there was plenty of space to share. The kitchen and great room are perfect for entertaining, the deck is perfect for evenings drinks and when anyone wants their own space it's there. The sauna on the lower floor was greatly enjoyed by a nephew and girlfriend who came to visit. We loved this place and almost hate to review it so well because we want to come back ;-) and don't want it booked up!
Westview offers scenic vistas of the Smoky Mountain skyline and wonderful sunsets but is perched directly above downtown Asheville which can be reached in minutes. A spectacular architect designed house, it is the best place to enjoy Asheville arts, dining, and shops, while also soaking in the mountains. Our family had a wonderful stay on our second visit to Westview and we will be back.
We have stayed at several houses close to this one and none of them compare. The house is wonderful. Its modern touch is a nice change. The kitchen was great as were the bathrooms. The view from the deck was very nice even though the trees were full. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone needing a place to stay while visiting Asheville.
