Guestbook comments from the owner
"We had the best time at your house. My family especially like the living room, where we gathered to play Clue, Cranium, and a 1000 piece puzzle that we didn't finish :). At the lake we went to Ducey's for dinner and lunch a couple of times and rented two boats! We went to Mariposa Grove, Curry Village to watch a movie, and sightseeing. The house was perfect for our group. We plan to come again."

We are a family of 6. Our children (3 boys and 1 girl) range from the ages of 18 to 26 years. We have been going to Bass Lake since the children were born. In fact, my husband's family had a house at Bass Lake when he was a child. So, we have always considered Bass Lake a special place and is always our favorite destination. We enjoy the fun boating activities, as well as the peacefulness of the winter at the lake.

The Owner purchased this house in 2006

Our home was completed in 2006, and we were able to save all but two of the beautiful mature trees on our lot when we built it. So, the house feels like it's been there among the trees for a long time. The trees at Bass Lake, if you haven't yet seen them, are amazing and add to the Lake's beauty. Looking up at night through the trees you can see a sky full of brilliant stars.

We have an annual tradition - at Thanksgiving our family gather at our Lake House for a feast (literally, since my brother is a chef). It is an wonderful place for quality family time.

BEAUTIFUL HOME

  • 5 of 5
We stayed for one week at this beautiful home at Bass Lake with our adult children and grandchildren. The house was large enough to provide nice gathering places for the family and space where we can all tuck away for peace and quiet as well. Kitchen was well furnished with modern appliances. Bedrooms were comfortable and air conditioning in the house during a very hot week worked flawlessly. Owner was responsive throughout from contracting to checkout. We would be pleased to stay again.

PLENTY

  • 5 of 5
The title of this review is plenty because this gorgeous home had plenty of everything our family could want for our Thanksgiving gathering. Plenty of gathering spaces, plenty of getaway spaces, plenty of space for our teens to hang out, plenty of beautiful high end linens, tons of towels, Tvs , videos, pillows, fireplaces, games, kitchen supplies, soap and shampoo, dishes and glasses , cozy throws on every couch and chair, chairs everywhere inside and out, plenty of places to play hide and seek, even plenty of outside garbage cans... Have never stayed in a place that had do much consideration for what a large family gathering would need! Beautifully decorated and situated, near lake and Yosemite. We went to the small town outdoor market, comedy show and light parade as well as hiking Yosemite and fishing in Bass Lake. I highly recommend this home !! Thank you for a perfect stay!

GREAT PLACE FOR FAMILY REUNION

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I catch up with his family - his three sisters and their spouses - every year at a VRBO. We've been to Charleston, SC, Gatlinburg, TN, Duck, NC and now Bass Lake, CA. We all loved this house. There was room to spare for the 8 of us, and the proximity to Yosemite and Sequoia National Park (King's Canyon) made it the best place we could have chosen. Working with Janice made it that much more enjoyable. We would come back - the house is wonderful - but next year we're all off to San Antonio, Texas. Thank you, Janice, for sharing your home. Another great memory for the Torreys.

GREAT HOUSE, SCARY NEIGHBORS

  • 3 of 5
We held a multi-generational family vacation here in June 2011. The house is gorgeous; very well appointed and obviously well cared for. While it may be "four houses from the lake," the truth is that the house sits on the corner of the busy highway that runs around the lake (you must cross this road to get to the lake), and is the first house in a subdivision of similar houses. You can cross the road and walk down to the lake (make sure younger kids are well supervised because the cars come barreling down on you), but once there . . . only a tiny "beach" area - really just a spot of land in between two docks. In fact, it's just dock after dock after dock at that location. And the dock that "comes" with the house is not even there! It's a hike down the road. Moreover, the tiny patch of beach is muddy, not sandy and there is no real place to sit. Bottom line: you have to have a boat to take you to a beachy area elsewhere on the lake or you have to drive to a beachy area.

The worse part? The back of the house abuts a tiny street (alley?), which is shared with another rental house next to this one, as well as the neighbors across the street. Make sure you don't try to park in front of the neighbor's house; we weren't even in the house a full day before the neighbors were on the phone to the owners of this house complaining about us. And their garage, which faced the back of this house, was full of teenagers playing very loud boom boxes (that is when they weren't tearing in and out of the subdivision in a jeep).

For the money? Not worth it in our opinion.

Owner's Response: It is important to say up front that our guests have been wonderful and very respectful of our property, and it has been truly enjoyable to share our home with them. Unfortunately, there is also some risk involved in renting a home. And these guests have been the only group who has been disrespectful of our home and its surroundings. We were on vacation when our neighbor called us to report that these guests had driven over his landscape, parked wave runners on our lawn, blocked access of the easement with the parking of their trailer, and had a very large group (exceeding the maximum occupancy) at the house, which resulted in the boundary issue between them. Also, the so-called “highway” is Northshore Road, the road that runs along the lake and has a mandatory 25 mph speed limit. Access to the lake is relatively exclusive (you need to have a lake front home or own a boat slip). The guests had access to our boat slip, which is a short walk from the house (the boat dock area includes a boat launching area, small sandy beach area and a couple picnic tables). We believe they were accessing the lake instead through private property between boat docks closest to our house. We had never heard a single negative comment about our home until this review. Our guest book is full of very complimentary remarks and we will gladly provide copies.
