(NB. Our duplex renovation will be completed on May 5 2015. New photos will be available then. The images above are from 2014!)
Our huge 102m2 (1,100 sq ft) duplex apartment in the historic port of Nice is south-facing, quiet and beautiful, yet minutes from several beaches, Old Town, tram, airport bus and train. Our top floor duplex apartment was completely renovated in 2015. It has art on the walls, great music on the iPod, plus travel apps and classic French movies on our iPad. Not forgetting three divine wooden beds with fine linen, a library of books, and every cook book known to man.
But as the apartment building dates from the 1850s (the building was once an olive oil distribution depot) heaps of antique charm remain. There are two big bedrooms with double beds; the first is really romantic and has a €3,000 Habitat mattress, antique lights and three metre high ceilings. The second bedroom is larger and boasts an antique double bed with €2,500 Tempurpedic mattress, plus a library of guidebooks, history books and an iPad 3. The third is on a separate floor and is also sublime and south-facing, with a new €2,500 mattress.
The living room opens on to the fantastically well equipped kitchen. We have a 1930s wooden table for six, Roche Bobois sofa and fireplace. More photos are available on request, just email us for more details!

I am a British travel journalist based in Nice, France. I own this lovely apartment with my American wife, Kathryn. As we write for Condé Nast Traveler, National Geographic, The Sunday Times and several other travel magazines, we'd be happy to recommend a heap of charming restaurants and great beaches across the South of France.
Tristan Rutherford purchased this apartment in 2006
Mainly the sun! It's completely south-facing with sun from dawn until dusk pouring in. And as it's on a courtyard it's totally quiet at night, despite being in the dead centre of Nice. The location is also amazing, with an award-winning boulangerie on the corner, 100 antique stores on the same block, and the Old Town, beach and scores of restaurants within a five-minute stroll.
We purchased an iPad in 2012 for our guests to use. It is pre-loaded with some great French movies, travel apps, video games and lots of cool links. We love playing with it, and hope you do too! The fireplace is unique and very cozy in winter, as is the library, cook books, kitchen and dining table for six. We love entertaining, eating and drinking and expect that our guests will too. What's totally unique is the peace and quiet at night, very rare in Nice, plus the personal, French, traditional and very chic decoration that makes it so special. Our final renovation in 2014 turning our much-loved apartment into three bedroom duplex. There is so much space it's untrue!
Tristan and Kathryn keep a wonderful apartment in Nice.
It's great to be so close to everything, smack between Garibaldi Sq and the port, a hop-skip-jump from the beach (lovely walk actually), and old Nice. Yet they're removed and living among the locals rather than a bazillion tourists. There's a lush green park across the street and a good vertical stroll up the steep hill leads to a great place to pass an afternoon surrounded by ruins and breathtaking overlooks. The local bus to the airport, Cannes, Ez, Monaco (etc) is also right on the port a few blocks away.
The place itself is very homey, comfortable and tasteful in a simple way. You're in someone's lived-in home rather than their co-op/hotel suite.
Sweet, accomodating, trustworthy people. They're gifted travel writers (see their Frommer's guide to France), so they really "get it".
We'll be back.
Great location 2 minutes from the Port and from Place Garibaldi. The apartment is on the third floor of a lovely building in a quiet side street and is full of character but somehow doesn't feel cramped or touristy. We've stayed in the old town before and found it airless, claustrophobic and impossible to get any sleep but this place is large, open and airy even in the 30 degree heat when we were there. It's got loads of charm and character but is bang up to date where it matters with a fantastic and enormous new bathroom, stupendous shower, great comfortable beds, wifi etc. The booking process via Tristan, and the welcome from Marilia, were both really efficient but everything is done with that fantastic personal touch which just makes you feel that these are very nice people who are actually bothered about you and want you to have a great time! Have to say we also had a fabulous meal just round the corner in the Port at Le Passe-plat for not much more than we paid in the old town for some bog standard pizza. Anyway, if you like huge, bland, anonymous apartment blocks with matching balconies then maybe this apartment isn't for you but we absolutely adored it and it will be our first port of call next time we're in Nice.
This apartment is spacious, cozy, not noisy and easy to relax in. We went there in July 2014. A good choice for families. The combination of very old and newish interior create a very friendly atmosphere. Meet & greet went very smoothly.
During our stay we had breakfast and dinner at the apartment most of the days. We listened to jazz-music and Billy Joel on the Ipod. The afternoons we spent on the beach or in the old town just a few minutes walk from the bloc. One day we had a little excursion to Antibes and Vence also. We went their by means of public transportation which worked alright. The info we got from the brochures and books available in the apartment that also have plenty of interesting books.
We strongly recommend this rental to other families with small kids that are looking for a vacation in a safe and pleasant environment and close to the seaside and attractions.
Family with two teenage daughters spent a week in July 2014 at this wonderful apartment. The apartment is cosy and bright and feels like you are staying at a friends apartment as opposed to a rental property. The apartment is quiet. The bathroom is new with a large Canadian style shower. The beds are super comfortable and rooms have great fans. Given sea breeze no need for air conditioning. The apartment is well equipped for cooking and is stocked with great books and information on things to do while on French Riveria. The location is great - a 5 minute walk to the port with great restaurants around. On nearby rue Cassini you will find a bakery and several grocery stores. Rue Cassini leads to place Garibaldi - with lots of restaurants and this leads either to the Vieux Nice or to promenade du Paillon - a green space which also leads to place Massena and major shopping on Rue Jean Medecin. The tramway is available at Place Garibaldi and in 2016 a new station will be even closer to apartment. Promenade des Anglais is a 10 minute walk the other way. So all this to say, the apartment is greatly situated and a great base for exploring Nice and the Riveria, and is highly recommended.

Where do I begin! From the very first moment with out friendly greet by Marillia, to the welcome gift left by our hosts, to the discovery of the fantastic apartment, everything about the Antoint Gauthier rental was perfect.
The sunny, cozy, spacious, well-decorated and very functional space was perfect for my friend and I to spend a week discovering Nice with all that it has to offer. The free Wifi with IPad and IPod (that we had on shuffle for the whole week, nice selection of music by the way!) are a really nice touch to help us stay connected with loved ones!
Walking distance from almost everything there is to see, the Antione Gauthier apartment is ideal for people like me, who love to discover a city by wandering though the streets and relaxing on a terrace somewhere. Also, the great user’s guide written by the owners was very useful with tips on the city and great nearby places to eat!
I enjoyed everything about this place and would not hesitate one minute to rent it again for a future trip to Nice.
