Great Family Vacation

Peaceful fun Jackson, MI
Review Submitted: October 27, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We had a wonderful time at the cottage in June. We had beautiful weather and our children 13, 11 and 8 enjoyed all of the activities the cottage and surrounding area had to offer. We were able to view the beautiful sunsets overlooking the water, the kids swam each day and the even enjoyed the row boat. Our middle child made a great effort at fishing, but his patience provided little success. Just having the opportunity was an experience we will always remember. We appreciated the picnic table, fire pit and barbecue grill. A vacation that let us relax and spend time as a family was the best.
The little town of Lake Ann was very convenient for the all important ice cream runs. Traverse City, although a few minutes drive, offers beautiful beaches and other activities. We went parasailing, enjoyed the tour at the winery, we went to the museum at the community college. Not far from the college was a drive in movie theater, what a blast from the past.
The cottage offered a lot of wonderful memories and we would recommend this to anyone that is looking for a clean, well equipped cottage for the summer. Be sure to take a fan, there is no air conditioning and the only windows that open are the bathroom and sliding door.

not the best- keep looking

mom with disappointed kids cedar springs, mi
Review Submitted: August 26, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We had many issues with this cottage- slighty run down- needs some TLC from the owners- screen door was broken- windows didn't open. Main issue was bugs and mice- the cottage was overrun with these earwigs. They aparently had a water problem in May but failed to mention that to people who had already paid for the vacation time. My kids also found a yellowjack nest under the first board under the dock and were stung 9 times- day 1- we contacted the owners who came with bug spray and an apology- too little to late. We loved the lake but the rowboat has oars that don't match so only one reaches the water- lots of extra work to try and relax- we received our cleaning deposit back but nothing else for our problems or expenses for all the bug spray or mice traps- we will not be visiting again and will research much better for our next vacation spot --and we brought home swimmers itch for another two weeks. The owners hopefully will take our hard earned money and put it towards the maintance of this rental property.
Owner's Response: Upon receipt of an email from this renter complaining about earwigs, a mouse, and a bee's nest, we immediately went to the cottage with sprays, poisons, etc. The renter downplayed her complaints and said everything was fine. In spite of her comments, we:
1) Resprayed under the dock where the bee's nest had been and had a friend to remove the board and respray at night to ensure eradication of the nest.
2) Offered to reimburse her for the sprays her husband had purchased, but she declined.
3) Sprayed the entire exterior of the cottage and gave her spray for the interior and asked her to spray at their convenience. Explained that previous renters had not notified us of an earwig problem and wondered if perhaps the problem resulted from the summer's damp, rainy weather. We further mentioned that while we had had a pipe leak in the spring, we had the cottage professionally dried out to prevent any problems.
4) We were not previously informed of the broken screen but will have it fixed. Also, we have not had other complaints about the oars but will check into it as there had been two sets of oars.

We pride ourselves in maintaining our cottage and providing a good vacation experience for our renters. We are sorry that didn't happen for this client. In the few years we have been renting our cottage, we have had many satisfied clients and numerous repeat renters who have overwhelmingly reported a very positive vacation experience at Lakeside Pines.

Really Nice Cottage

BGN Holt, Michigan
Review Submitted: September 20, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
A friend and I stayed here after Labor Day - a great time to visit, after the crowds are gone. This is a charming, well-maintained, comfortable vintage cottage, the kind that is rapidly being replaced by lakeside McMansions. The bathroom and kitchen are clean and well stocked, appliances are new, furniture and beds are comfy. The lake is just perfect - very shallow near the shore, with a sandy bottom. We enjoyed the family of ducks that waddled between the lake and the home next door, the many varieties of birds, and (I think) a group of bats that flew overhead at sunset each night. The sun sets directly across the lake, and we enjoyed it every night with a fire in the outdoor firepit. Close to Traverse CIty and easy to get to the smaller towns to the north and west. Bring an atlas and go exploring. I love this part of Michigan. We'd stay here again.

A Little Piece of Heaven

Feeling Revived Byron Center, MI
Review Submitted: September 18, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
Thank you so much, Betty! Our family had the most amazing time at your cottage in August. We could not have picked a better week for weather - I think it only rained one evening. Your family has gone above and beyond in amenities furnished from all the kitchen supplies to the washer/dryer, to comfortable beds, plenty of seating, cleanliness, the well kept picnic table with umbrella, and even the infant/toddler swing in the tree - it was a first for us to push our 5 month old son in a swing. We also actually cooked 90% of our meals at the cottage - we didn't want to leave!

The cottage is so close to other areas of interest - Traverse City, the Sleeping Bear Dunes, Glenn Arbor, wine country. Although we enjoyed traveling the countryside and hitting some of our favorite spots from previous trips up north, there was something special for our family to just spend quality time at your cottage away from all the hustle and bustle. It actually seemed as if we had the lake to ourselves most of the week, and the neighbors that were there were very friendly (and quiet) which added to the tranquility.

My husband spent many mornings and evenings on the lake fishing, and caught fish almost every time out. Because the lake was so calm and not a lot of boat traffic, we were also comfortable in taking our son out on our boat and putting good use to his new life jacket. When we weren't out on the boat, we spent a lot of time sitting in our lawn chairs in the water and soaking our feet in the warm water and sandy bottom of Lake Ann.

We would definitely come back andI would highly recommend your cottage to friends and family. Thank you for a much needed and wonderful vacation spot!
