Our Waimanalo Beach Home has beach access to a beautiful six mile long white sand beach, the longest stretch of sandy shoreline on O`ahu, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It is free of rocks and coral and this makes it a perfect spot for surfing, boogie boarding, swimming and snorkeling! There are beautiful views of the pali cliffs where you can see hang gliders enjoying the Waimanalo breezes. Magnificent views of several off shore islands including Molokai and Lanai. Waimanalo Beach offers the most amazing sunrises with an inspiring start to each day.
Oahu's best keep secret is the town of Waimanalo. It is one of the only places on Oahu where you can get away from the tourist mania, yet still be so close to so many great activities. Waimanalo Beach is located on the East side of Oahu, and is just 25 minutes from Honolulu International Airport, Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head and minutes from attractions such as Sea Life Park and Hanauma Bay. Kailua, Lanikai and Hawaii Kai are just 10 minutes away, with fine dining, shopping, cinema and more.
This is your own piece of paradise, and whether it is a honeymoon, adventure, or family holiday, it has it all. Facilities include a fully equipped kitchen, TV, DVD Player, VCR, a lanai with a gas grill, a large beautifully landscaped tropical yard with an outdoor cedar sauna and jacuzzi to relax in at the end of the day, there is also a jungle gym and swing set if you have kids! The house has an outdoor hot and cold shower for an easy return to the house from the beach.
If you are looking to experience 'true Hawaii' then our place is for you. We are located in an area which the Hawaiians refer to as 'God's Country'

I grew up in Wamanalo and raised my 3 children there as well. Our family enjoys Surfing, Kayaking, Boogie Boarding, Sailing, Fishing and long walks on the beach, we love and respect the ocean and we hope you and your family will enjoy this beautiful home as much as we do!
Chris Laird purchased this house in 1998
I grew up in Waimanalo and my family and I love the community and the ability to get away from the city and enjoy the peacefulness of the countryside, unwind on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and still be minutes away from great restaurants, shopping, the cinema and all major Hawaii attractions.
The house is steps away from one of the most pristine beaches in the world, being on the East side of the island, you can see the most amazing sunrises! The house is set on a large property in a tropical setting. It has a hot tub and cedar sauna outside, a large covered lanai with a gas grill, swings and jungle gym in the yard and outdoor showers to use after the beach! It is the perfect spot for taking long walks on miles of white sand beach, surfing, kayaking, paddling, snorkeling, boogie boarding, etc., the Ocean is free of coral and rock with crystal clear swimming. It is a very kid-friendly house, yard, neighborhood and beach.
My family and I stayed at a house in Oahu. It was spectacular!!! Very clean, welcoming, and so relaxing. My husband and I will never stay in a hotel again. Staying in a house versus a hotel was a much better experience. Love Love Love!!!
Overall a very positive experience staying at Hinalea House. It is in a residential neighborhood -- I'm sure some of the other homes are vacation rentals, but for the most part your neighbors will be locals going about their normal routines, not tourists. The yard feels very private, and the younger kids enjoyed the play set and especially the zip line. According to my GPS the beach is 320 meters away from the front gate -- a three minute walk with our five year old.
And the beach really is beautiful and uncrowded; we took the kids to several others around the island and more than once they asked why we couldn't just go back to "our beach" instead. There are a bunch of boogie boards at the house; one or two are in good condition. The snorkel equipment is really very nasty -- black mildew growing on the flippers and masks. (Not that you rent a house based on the condition of snorkel gear, but don't plan on using what they have there!)
The house is older, but mostly renovated. (The bathrooms reminded me of my grandparents' house, but the kitchen is obviously newer.) It was exceptionally clean when we arrived -- and after 6 days doing our best to spray the sand off our kids before we came back in, I can see why there is a cleaning fee! There were ants in the kitchen -- but only if we missed a bit of food in the sink or on the stovetop for them to come gather.
The caretaker, Aunty Ka'u, has great energy. She engaged our kids from the start and did an excellent job setting expectations with them in a way that was both caring and clear. She seems to have the perfect personality to care about people and mind the property and its rules at the same time -- if I owned a vacation rental I would hire someone like her in a heartbeat.
But you might find it a little odd sharing space with a caretaker. The clothes washer is right outside the kitchen window; as kind as Ka'u is, it was still a little weird to say hello through the window while she started laundry and I rinsed dishes with no shirt on. :) The large window looking onto the back patio (and part of Ka'u's separate little house) doesn't have drapes or blinds at all. It didn't bother us, but if you're particularly private you might not feel comfortable.
I'd certainly recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet, off-the-path rental on Oahu. We felt welcome and relaxed in a sleepy little town, and overall the house was great.
Wow !.... Very impressed
We came here with a couple other groups for two weeks... They stayed in other homes we had this one ... Needless to say this was the best fit for us , my wife Torrie mother in law Donna (132), Jorjah (11) August (7) .... With the sauna and hot tub and private yard we were quite content .. Our beach days were amazing which of course about a 1 min walk and you feel as though you are on your own private beach .. If you have any experience from the other beaches in the area you will appreciate this .!!!
Ka'u (Auntie) (caretaker /luna).... Most amazing and powerfull person I have come across in a very long time . We are now booked for 2015/16 visit here ....as I sit at the table here at Waimanalo House writing this I already miss being here and can't wait to comeback !
I don't want to share this secret oasis in the middle of the Pacific ... If you are looking for a nice quiet /very private home with all the amenities this is it !

Ps. August will miss Hannu!
Our stay at Waimanalo house was incredible. We lived like the locals and thoughly enjoyed the location and place. We were first met with Ka'u the caretaker and she laid out all the amenities. Super clean and it really felt like home and child friendly. The closed in yard keep the kids in and allowed us to drop our guard and enjoy the place.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED... We read all the reviews but we had experience with Hawaii lifestyles and the challenges of Hawaii. This was top notch! Bar none the best we have stayed coming from over 20+ rentals on many Hawaii islands.
Note: Wake up for sunsets, they are incredible!!!
Aloha, A Hui Hoe!! (Goodbye, until we meet again...)
Aloha Ka'u & Chris
There is not much more I can add as my bestest friend Mel said it all in her review, but I will say a little something for my time on this beautiful island, at this amazing little place we called home for 9 days
From the moment we arrived until late on the night before we left, we were well looked after by Ka'u. She is an orsum Wahine and made our holiday so much more than I could have only imagined. It felt like I had known her my whole life and I am looking forward to returning in 2016 with my family, for a longer holiday and to be in her presence once again.
The positive karma and mana in the house flowed through me from the moment I walked in and it felt like I was walking into my home. It definitely had the serenity and peacefulness I needed to rest and relax.
The beach sunrise was amazing as was the Makapuu Lighthouse sunrise and I wish I could attach photos to share.
The local people were so friendly and welcomed us with open arms. Even on the roads everyone was so courteous. The Chiefs Luau was amazing and I can't wait to take my family there to experience it with me.
On our last night Ka'u organised for myself to get a tattoo to represent my holiday on the Island. Mahalo once again to Ka'u and Steve at Pacific Soul Tattoo for an amazing piece of artwork on my arm. My daughter Jordan was also able to have a little piece of Hawaii tattoo'd on her arm by Brian thanks to Ka'u & Steve.
My last Mahalo is to my BFF4E Mel for letting me invite myself & Jordan on her family holiday. An emotional but amazing moment shared with you for the dolphin carving you gave me, and with the blessing from Ka'u
Much Aroha Ka'u coming your way from me
Where to start.....Firstly, MAHALO to Ka'u. Chris & (Family). They have welcomed us into their community and this home with such Mana and Aroha we felt it as soon as contact was made with Chris, (firstly via email) and then in person. Ka'u greeted us with such enthusiasm and Te Oaoa (Happiness).
My family, best friend and her daughter planned for this holiday for over a year. I had researched for a rental near Waimanalo due to a family wedding. We were not looking for 'Hustle & Bustle' but more of ' Chilled & Relaxed'. Waimanalo Country Side Beach House provided exactly that.
We had a hire car so we were able to take advantage of surrounding areas that Ka'u was only too happy to provide local knowledge about. With GPS in hand and a keen sense of adventure we slowly became entwined with this 'Hawaiian Culture'. We embraced the the kindness, the people and this beautiful part of the world with open minds and hearts.
Great places to check out - Hawai'i Kai Town Center 20min drive (Costco), Kailua (Wholefoods) 10-12 min drive, Aloha Stadium Swap-meet Markets 25min drive (Great souvenirs), Waimanalo Bay Sunrise 2min walk, Chief's Luau Sea Life Park 7min drive.
The home is perfect for families young and old. Chris & Ka'u have catered to almost every activity you could think of. Although we didn't have young children, we will be re-booking again for April 2016 and plan to bring little ones with us. Knowing what we have here makes planning a holiday much easier knowing that our little ones can safely play in the yard with someone always able to keep a watchful eye out. The beach is really, literally only a 2min walk. The road is not busy, so it is safe for young ones to make their way to the pathway safely. The trolley provided for all the beach toys makes an adults life so much easier, but there is also a trolley for your towels, drinks and other beach going stuff!!
The general layout of the house is open and generous in modern appliances, kitchenware, linens and FREE WIFI PEOPLE. Just a small travel tip for those traveling from Australia....buy 1 power adapter (AUS-US) and bring a power pack (AUS) with an extension cord to help charge Iphones, tablets, laptops flat irons etc!
This is not your typical beach-side resort, it is a home that reflects the holiday you want it to be, relaxed, easy and simple. So if you are expecting the rattle and humm of Waikiki and Honolulu, you will only hear the many birds and other wildlife here...oh and a rooster too! Enjoy!
