Hi Pat,

We enjoyed everything about the house. This was the fourth house we stayed in and everyone agreed that it was the nicest one. Several times I asked my in-laws if they wanted to go to the beach and everyone said: "Why? We have everything we need right here." The only complaint I heard was that my mother-in-law found the deck too distracting to read her book because she kept having to watch the waves instead of read :)

We did not mind the rain - in fact it was nice to cool off a bit because we're not used to the heat!

Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Amy.

Born and raised on the island of Oahu, we found ourselves on the mainland for many years and reminisced about childhood memories of discovering life in tide pools at our family's beach cottage. After a 10 year search we found a home--the Makaha Pole House--where we can create memories with our children. We love the unspoiled beauty of Makaha and the time we spend watching the waves, seeing dolphins and whales, and enjoying the cooling tradewinds. Simply put, we love Hawaii and Makaha and hope you will love your visit to the Makaha Pole House!

Pat White purchased this house in 2012

Why Makaha you might ask, because Makaha is a place where time stood still. I can still sit out on the deck chairs, early in the morning and watch fishermen with hand thrown nets waiting for fish to swim by and catch. Where spinner dolphins still entertain you, right in front of your eyes or the warm sun setting in full color from your deck chair.

That is why we waited patiently for the right place to come along.

Makaha Pole House is our home. It is where our kids can enjoy the beauty of rediscovering the old tide pools, catch waves on a boogie board or enjoy the spectacular sunsets with ohana (family). The lanai (deck) is where we (and you will) spend most of your time. Pictures can not capture the beauty of the view or the sound of the waves on the coral reef. When you arrive you will walk in the furnished comfortable house (say 'wow') and head to the lanai to watch the waves and look for dolphins and whales. You know that you are staying in paradise!

OCEANFRONT PARADISE

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed two wonderful weeks at the Pole House. Perfect location for a relaxing stay, very quiet. We saw Whales every day for 14 days. Spinner Dolphins travelled back and forth right in front of the property daily. It was fun walking through the tide pools exploring the shore line with our granddaughter. With Makaha Beach only a short walk away it was perfect. The amenities and the layout is exactly as described, with lots of dishes, pots and pans. Loved the large wrap around lanai, what a great place to have your meals.
Pat phoned the house the first morning to welcome us to Hawaii and to make sure everything was ok. We would recommend this property to anyone that enjoys being close to the Ocean and only minutes away from the beach.

LOVELY BEACHFRONT PROPERTY

  • 5 of 5
My family and I spent 7 wonderful days here. The view was unbelievable and the sunsets were awesome. We couldn't have asked for a better stay. The property was better than depicted, and owner (Pat) really tried to make sure everything was perfect.

The house has everything you need. Buy your groceries in town and enjoying cooking and relaxing at this ocean front home. It is a very special place and our only regret is we couldn't stay longer.

THE OCEAN VIEW WAS BEAUTIFUL!

  • 4 of 5
The house was beautiful, little warm this time of year but the evening breezes made it more comfortable. The house was clean and in a great location to beaches. Owner was very nice. We visited Waikiki, north shores, waimae valley, Diamond Head, and grocery store to get food for breakfasts and a few bbqs. Twice we're able to see dolphins spinning for us! Would not hesitate to return!

LOVELY PLACE TO STAY!

  • 5 of 5
The place of Pat and Dan is the best choice if you are seeking a quite, relaxing stay in a wonderful surrounding. The huge terrace offers a magnificant view on the ocean. You will love to listen to the sound of the Pacific while looking to the stars in the night. The house itself provides all you need, the interieur is real hawaiian style- we felt 'at home' from the very first moment of our arrival. Being in the west of the island you need to know that the traffic is in the morning as well as in the afternoon quite heavy so it takes at least one hour to drive to Honolulu or 1.5 to 2 hours to arrive in Kailua. In any case a car is highly recommended for daily food shopping or to come to the various beaches in the surrounding.
To summarize: for a relaxing, enjoyable and quite stay you will hardly find a better place!
Mahalo for everything- we will come back for sure!

AMAZING HOUSE

  • 5 of 5
One of the best vacations we have ever had. House is in secluded area, with huge lanai, beautiful sunsets. House is equiped with everything you need. Beaches around are almost deserted, Yokohama Bay was our favourite. Stable weather conditions (14 days of Sun), away from tourists traps and crowds. If you want to travel around the island, a car is a must. We have travelled a lot and return to Makaha house was beautiful bonus to busy day. It was like to recharge our batteries at the house. Owners of the house are very nice, called us couple times if everything goes good, caretaker too is very nice guy. If we go back to Oahu, we will rent this house again. Thanks Pat and Dan.

WONDERFUL HOUSE, AREA, AND OWNERS!

  • 5 of 5
We had the most amazing stay in Makaha. The house was everything we hoped and more (e.g., I didn't realize from the pictures how large and comfortable the back deck is - we spent many happy hours there enjoying the gorgeous ocean view. There is also a good-sized back yard where we could play flag football right near the water). We spent an entire activity-filled week without going farther than a mile from the house: snorkeling, boogie-boarding, kayaking, body surfing, tide pools, hiking, etc.). The house is so well-equipped that the only thing we had to rent was the kayak. There are many beautiful & uncrowded beaches close by, great hiking trails, and the area is friendly and un-touristy. Another reason we enjoyed our stay so much is because Dan and Pat were so amazingly kind and helpful. We will be forever grateful for the amount of care and thought they put into giving us ideas about places to go and things to do. It is clear how much they love Hawaii and the house and their enjoyment of it, and the warmth they showed us, enhanced our stay. Thank you so much!

Makaha Beach is Oahu's second most popular snorkeling site. The clear, aqua blue water with little current is superb for snorkeling in summer. There are underwater caverns, arches, and tunnels as deep as 40 feet. Sea life includes schools of taape, octopuses, several species of eels, green sea turtles, transiting dolphins, and sometimes manta and eagle rays.

Across from Makaha State Beach, is a Souvenir and Ocean sports equipment shop, where you can either purchase or rent various equipment to enjoy ocean sports.

One of the nicest, most peaceful and calm beaches in the area, both summer and winter, is called Waianae Beach at Pokai Bay. Located on this beach is the Recreation Area and the Waianae Beach Resort for the Military. It is located about 5 minutes from the house by car going south, just after passing Seven Eleven, and turning right on Army Street. Park on the street, and bring photo ID to pass the Security Gate. The Waianae Beach Club offers great food, and a fantastic ocean view from the dining lanai. The Club restaurant has restricted times of service. Kayaks, boats, and other beach accessories can be rented right there on the beach. A small store is conveniently located on the beach, stocked with all necessities for an enjoyable time at the beach. Check out: http://www.hawaiiweb.com/oahu/beaches/pokai_bay_beach_park.htm

Visit the Disney Resort at Koolina, which is located about 20 minutes south of the property.

For a round of golf or a brunch, check out the Makaha Resort and Golf Club, which is just 5 minutes from the house. www.makaharesort.net
