The owner, Mariette, grew up in BC, mainly in Vancouver, and has lived in Point Grey for more than 40 years, formerly operating the very popular Casa Mora Bed and Breakfast, with her husband, Neville. When Casa Mora closed operations in 2007 she purchased this unit. They still live very nearby, at UBC, and guests will attest to their promptness in dealing with any problems or concerns as they arise. Neville grew up in Australia and is an accomplished artist, designer, journalist and gardener; and is well known in the Point Grey Community for having started the street gardens along 10th Avenue, and the Rhododendron Garden at the Trimble Street Park. This couple has travelled extensively in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and beyond. They enjoy people and have many interests. Both studied at UBC. Mariette has a basic fluency in Spanish and understands and speaks a little French as well as English.
Mariette purchased this apartment in 2008
Home comforts, view and Location, location, location! This neighbourhood is our home, our community and we are very proud of it. The apartment itself is on the top floor of a 4 storey, concrete building, facing north which means it is very quiet and also has the very wonderful views of city, mountain and Vancouver's inner and outer harbours.
One is always surrounded by beauty in Point Grey -- beautiful streets, beautiful gardens, beautiful views. It is a quiet, safe, friendly neighbourhood and one can walk everywhere. A car can be a plus but is really not a necessity. Everything Vancouver has to offer is easily and quickly reached by express bus, with a stop for the bus located in the next block. We have gone to great lengths to equip this apartment with everything one needs for a comfortable stay and we work hard to maintain it in excellent condition. We ask for specific feedback from our guests and use most of that feedback. A cozy fireplace and a wonderful balcony with spectacular views, make for a very pleasant ambience.
In addition to being very near UBC, and in the heart of the popular Point Grey Village, with fast access to downtown and everything Vancouver has to offer, this is apartment faces north and has some of the best views in the city and is very quiet, almost silent most of the time, in spite of being located in the heart of the shopping district on a traffic busy street. The south side of the building does not enjoy the same silence, but the structure of the building and its setback from the other buildings on the north side, make for a very quiet and peaceful environment. One can walk out the front door of the building and be in centre of the village, shopping for anything you might need, or just sharing a coffee, drink or dinner in one of the local cafés or restaurants. The most common feedback we receive, is about the comfort, the cleanliness and the overall convenience provided by our suite, along with the fact that it is very well equipped. Even the spices, and the corkscrew have not been forgotten!
Great location, wonderful view, clean and comfortable suite, with attractive furnishings. We also enjoyed the Point Grey Village with all of its interesting shops and cafes; and the Pacific Spirit Park was a great walk even on a rainy day. Buses were convenient, so we skipped bringing our car.
This one bedroom fully furnished and fully equipped suite is located in the heart of the point grey village, a boutique shopping area in vancouver's beautiful west side. UBC is very nearby (one bus stop on the express bus) or a few minutes on your bike or in your car. The university has many amenities with perhaps the most popular being the UBC Museum of Anthropology (MOA), and also the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts; the winter sports centre (Doug Mitchell Winter Sports Centre, a Vancouver 2010 Olympic venue), Nitobe gardens, the UBC Botannical Gardens and much more. From Point Grey Village, Spanish Banks, Shipwreck Beach (aka wreck beach), Jericho beach and Locarno beach are all within walking distance. Pacific Spirit Park is accessed only 3 blocks from the apartment in one direction and 6 blocks in the other direction. Pacific Spirit Park is considered one of Vancouver's best kept secrets - it is 783 hectres of park with seemingly endless trails for walking, hiking and cycling while surrounded by majestic first and second growth giant douglas fir trees and a forest of birds and protected native vegetation. You will enjoy blue jays, eagles and great blue herons and many other species. At Jericho beach and in Pacific Spirit Park you can forage for edible mushrooms (assuming some expertise with same) and many edible berries (blackberries, huckleberries and more). The walking path to UBC along the perimeter of the park is very popular for skateboarding, roller blading & cycling. Several olympic sized swimming pools are available in the area, at UBC and elsewhere. There are many wonderful parks and gardens, and only 2 blocks from the apartment is trimble street park (aka point grey park) which has playing fields, a wonderful playground, public tennis courts and a rhododendron garden and spectacular views of the city as you play or relax. There are also many other tennis courts (public and private in the area) and parks. One can go for a kayak or sail on the harbour by renting a boat at jericho or at granville island. Vancouver is a city in which you can go sailing or kayaking in the morning and skiing in the afternoon or evening. A wide variety of recreational activities is always close at hand. Never to be missed of course, is a walk around the seawall which now extends not just around stanley park but also across the water in Kitsilano, point grey and in the other direction, to granville island and False Creek. Take the aquabus across the water from yaletown or the west end, near the aquatic centre to granville island or kitsilano and explore the many wonderful beaches, sites and sounds.
