Very Romantic Cabin in the Woods, on the Water, with Ultimate Privacy - you have no neighbors - not next door, not across the lake, none. All you will see are ducks, birds, loons, and an occasional canoe gliding by. Maybe a moose if you are lucky!
We recently watched a bald eagle swoop down and pluck a merganser duck from the lake, then drop him before he could fly too far. All from the comfort of our sofa - was quite a sight!
The cabin sits right over the outlet of the lake, 500' of private waterfront with dock and boathouse. The house was designed with tons of windows to capture the beauty of the natural surroundings, so the views are stunning, even at night! We turn on the fire, turn off the lights, and enjoy the reflection of the moon off the lake...just beautiful. The sight of the fog lifting in the early AM is worth the early rise.
2 bedrooms each have one double bed. There is a very cozy separate TV room with sectional sofa for watching movies, reading or enjoying that mid afternoon nap. Great lake views from this sweet little room as well.
The cabin accommodates 4 persons max. There is one bath (shower only), an indoor and an outdoor fireplace, full kitchen, weber grill, wifi, 40' flat screen for netflix movies (but no cable), and outdoor speakers to enjoy your iPod while grilling or chilling.
Need to work while here? We have a desk right up against the window so you can write that novel or email your client while observing wildlife on the lake.
WINTER
This cabin is like living inside a snow globe in the winter...there are so many windows you are simply surrounded by the snowfall, it's a beautiful sight!
Many winter hiking, snowshoeing and xcountry skiing adventures to be found locally. Great winter fishing right out front. There is an adorable small downhill ski mountain, Oak Mt in next town over. Gore is our favorite ski mountain, is a 45 minute drive.
This is snowmobile country - hundreds of miles of groomed trails through the woods and across the many lakes here. Stop in to a local pub for lunch and a beer - and head out to the next lake. Local rentals and lessons/guides available.
But our favorite activity in winter is sitting by the fire with a hot cocoa and observing the wilderness and the weather from the comfort and warmth of the sofa :)
We recommend arriving with a 4 wheel drive vehicle to better navigate the dirt driveway in winter. It is plowed regularly but can be tricky in icy weather. The other option is leaving your car at the end of the driveway.
SPRING, SUMMER and FALL
Comes with 4 good kayaks in warmer weather. Two are great for beginners, two are for the more experienced. Life preservers provided. Waterfront Boathouse provides very easy access to the kayaks, no need to carry them anywhere.
Kayak 10 minutes to the right, you are on beautiful Piseco Lake. Kayak 30 minutes to the left to a remote wilderness lake. Lots of natural wild shoreline and wildlife to explore from the water, and right out your front door! Most of the waterfront is too shallow to swim, except for one deep swimming hole, but you can kayak to the lake and enjoy the clear water and sandy bottom of Piseco Lake. Pull up on one of the many small islands and swim from there.
The fishing is AMAZING out front. One guest commented that 'they were practically jumping into our boat'. Local fishing permit can be purchased in Speculator.
Fall Foliage is spectacular here.
This is a no parties, no smoking, no pets, allergy sensitive household. No more than 4 persons here at any time. We do our best to keep a pristine home, we are sure even the most discerning guests will be very happy here. We are happy to share this very special spot with responsible and considerate guests.
This is a very private, secluded property in that you will not see or hear any neighbors, however it is not remote. It is easy to get to, we are down a private 200ft dirt driveway directly off Rt 8. There is a small bridge nearby that separates the outlet (where we are) from Piseco Lake, you can hear the cars going over the bridge from the property (but not from inside the house), which is the only thing we wish was different.
This is a great home for self reliant, independent travelers looking for pristine accommodations in a unique and special spot to get away from it all. Piseco and the surrounding area is beautiful, but has very limited entertainment venues.
