This farmhouse was the perfect place for four couples to stay . The beds were cozy and comfortable with soft warm sheets , the kitchen was well equipped for serving grilling to gourmet and the large dining table was extremely accommodating for those meals at home . There's a walking trail right next door to the house and we had some beautiful walks through the hillsides with gorgeous views. We heard that it was also a snow mobile trail in the winter , which would be so convenient ! Yellowstone Park was only a few miles away and on our day trip we saw bison, elk , and moose . The owner gave us some scenic drives to go on and they were incredible . We saw a cinnamon black bear and elk outside the Park and a Ram on the cliffside another day . There are restaurants nearby - just ask the owner for suggestions. One in particular serves an awesome breakfast with gigantic pancakes served riverside . Cant ask for much more ! The house was peaceful , clean , easy to find and nicely decorated . We hope to be back in the winter !
Forest Edge was a perfect vacation home for our group. Everyone had enough privacy to feel very comfortable and we had plenty of room to enjoy time together. The kitchen had every gadget we needed and was a fun place to cook for our large group. The views from the front porch of Lion's Head were beautiful. I think my favorite part was being so close to the trail head. Located at the very end of the road and backing up to the trail head made it great for hiking. We hiked and picked wildflowers and spent the week learning their names. We visited the park several times and saw bull elk, bison, a grizzly bear and geese. We went fly fishing for the first time and are hooked. We will definately return. Our only dilemma is whether to return in the summer or to return in the winter to ride snow mobiles from the front porch directly onto the trails leading to Yellowstone National Park.
Our family (grandparents, children and grandchildren) took a Western vacation this year and enjoyed spending time in Yellowstone, the Tetons and Zion/Bryce. We stayed at Forest Edge during our time in Yellowstone. The home was very nice and offered us a great kick off for our stay. The view is awesome and we were close enough to Yellowstone Park to make our day trips easy. Loved the fact that we had 2 washers and 2 dryers. With 10 of us that was wonderful. John, the owner, was very helpful and we had a great stay. Thank you.
My son and I rented Forest Edge the week before Memorial weekend in 2013 and found the home most satisfactory in all the major aspects. It was cold & rainy when we arrived and the house was quite chilly, but the heater warmed the entire home within a reasonable amount of time.
The house is situated at the end of a road in a rural residential neighborhood and the property backs up to National Forest land. Its located seven miles from the town of West Yellowstone. The neighborhood was very quiet-you couldn’t really tell you were living around other families.
We like to cook and the kitchen in this house is awesome. It has a gas range & oven along with a good sized microwave, fully equipped with pots and pans, cooking utensils, silverware and all of these things seemed practically new and of high quality. The kitchen has a small island in the middle that really facilitates cooking. Everything’s within reach and the island top is butcher block, making cutting meat and vegetables easier.
The home has east-facing and west-facing covered porches so you can watch sunrises through the forest and sunsets over an unobstructed view of Lion’s Head. The back porch has a large Nexgrill gas grille that also seemed to be fairly new and functioned well.
There’s a large living area downstairs with a 47” flat screen and surround sound along with a Direct TV setup. The couches and chairs are good quality leather and are quite comfortable. There’s a dining table that could probably seat up to twelve that sits right off the kitchen. This would be a great home to entertain in.
The house has four bedrooms and could sleep twelve if two sleep on the futon. There just one full bathroom (with tub) but two 3/4 bathrooms (showers) and one half bath off the living room. The hot water heater worked fine though you have to wait a while for it to reach up to the upstairs bathrooms. There are two washers and dryers; one upstairs and one down.
All in all, this house is a great place to stay and I would rate it way above average. You can tell that Alan and John invested a good amount into making it comfortable and convenient for their guests. There were only a couple things that caused any inconvenience, and they were small. We could have used a larger casserole dish and a vegetable steamer. The Wi-Fi was down almost the entire time we were there and we couldn’t figure out the gas fireplace. It would also be nice to have a table on each of the porches as we spent a lo
We are happy that we have chosen the Forest Edge. Everything was exactly as what is described and shown on photos. It was spacious, clean and well-maintained. The provision of 3.5 baths and two laundry sets gives us great convenience. Lots of TV programs available although most of our time was spent on outdoor activities. Just one minor thing: it would be nice if a small table or chair is available in each room so that we don't need to put our stuff on the floor. But overall, this house definitely gives us great satisfaction.
What an incredible vacation! We stayed at Forest Edge for a family gathering and vacation and were extremely impressed by the accomodations, the view and the adventure. The setting was beautiful and we had more than plenty of space for all of us to stay comfortably. The dining room table accomodated all of us which made for some fun and interesting meals together.
Thanks for providing a wonderful place to reconnect and see Yellowstone. A vacation to remember....
