For miles around, the land surrounding Donnelly is rich and fertile. Little wonder, then, that the valley nestled between Wallowa National Forest to the west, and Boise National Forest less than two miles to the east is the perfect place for a farm: this farm! If you're looking for a unique vacation experience, why not hire on as a non-working hand at this secluded but functioning dairy farm just minutes from Donnelly and historic Roseberry, Jug Mountain Ranch, and McCall.
From the windows, porch, and deck of this gorgeous, three bedroom farmhouse with room for six, you'll look out on 360 degrees of beautiful agrarian vistas filled with mountains and pastureland. And be prepared: Your visit may be punctuated by an occasional visit from some friendly farm critter.
Though this is a working farm during the Summer months, you needn't worry; your only job is to enjoy the peace and seclusion. On hot days, when the help is out tending to the farm, you'll be comfortable in this beautifully decorated home. Relax in the spacious living room under timber-trussed ceilings. Feel the polished elegance of hardwood floors beneath your feet, and settle into the comfort of the plush couches and chair. Grab a cold drink and flip on the TV (sorry, no cable, but there is a DVD player with several DVD's to peruse!). In winter, warm yourself by the stone hearth.
The Farmhouse has a big, modern kitchen with a ton of cabinets, lots of counter space, and all the equipment your cook will need to feed a bunch of (non-working) farm hands! Six can fit at the stately wood table, two more at the bar. Like the rest of the house, the views are great from the kitchen. To be even closer to them, fire up the gas grill and enjoy some barbeque at the picnic table out on the massive redwood deck. There's also a fireplace/fire pit where all can gather summer evenings for toasted marshmallows and s'mores.
There are three comfy bedrooms. The Master suite is upstairs with a King size bed and spectacular views! There are two additional bedrooms on the main level both with queen beds. There are two bathrooms - one up, and one down. While the bathroom on the main floor is impressive, the bathroom on the second floor is huge and remarkable, with windows all around. You can soak in the claw foot tub and survey the world outside in bubbly warmth and complete seclusion.
When you're ready to tear yourself away from the peace and quiet of The Farmhouse, you'll have your choice of lake and mountain. There's boating, of course, and several places to launch them. You'll be pretty close to the Middle Fork of the Payette River where the fishing, kayaking and canoeing is great! To the east is Boise National forest where you'll find at least 12 trails of varying difficulty. Jug Mountain Golf Course and Tamarack Resort are each within a 15 minute drive, and offer a host of seasonal activities from golfing, skiing, hiking and mountain biking. And don't forget the nearly year round festivals!
After long days of hiking, biking, or snowmobiling, make some time for some rest and relaxation at Gold Fork Hot Springs, just 9 miles away and open year round including holidays!
The cool climate around Donnelly is ideal for huckleberries and the mountain slopes are thick with huckleberry bushes. So, what better excuse for a festival than the ripening of these juicy berries, a fete that takes place in Donnelly the beginning of August. There's also the Roseberry Music Festival and Arts and Crafts Faire.
So, reserve your spot at the Farmhouse in Donnelly, and experience a rural getaway in style and comfort!
