Our family is from Connecticut but has been spending summers in Milbridge, ME for three generations since the early 1900's.
AJ Meade purchased this house in 2006
This property is 1/2 mile from my fathers home and within 2 miles of the town center. There are beautiful views across the bay to the old church steeple, the bridges crossing the Narraguagus river and exceptional sunsets. Looking out to open water you can see past beautiful Islands to the open Atlantic.
Close to town for convenient groceries, eatting out at 44 North, Milbridge House, Fisherman's Wife or Joshy's. Joshy's is also the kids favorite place for ice cream and fried clams.
This is a long overdue review, and truthfully, I didn't want to write one because I want to keep this place a secret.
This home was a lifesaver for our family of 7. We had just stayed our 2nd miserable night at another rental in another town and were desperate to find a new place. We would've had a miserable ten-day vacation had we not stumbled upon this place the day before we rented. As soon as we drove up the driveway, everyone was beyond ecstatic that we made the decision to leave the original rental home. It was a very spacious, brand new home, complete with 2 sets of kitchen (upstairs for formal, downstairs for patio dining), generous lawn for playing frisbee and croquet. The owner's family lived nearby and the cousin who took care of us was a wonderful, welcoming face to the property.
In short, we were so happy with the beautiful property that we ended up seeing less of Downeast (and Canada) than we had planned. I think my parents were kind of relieved not to be stuck driving around from place to place anyway. Having been to that area 4 summers now, they loved spending a week just sitting on the porch and walking down to their very own beach and kayaking everyday right outside of the home.
We were honored to have been the very first guests and I hope we will be coming back to rent this place. It was a calm, elegant, and magical Maine summer just as it should be for everyone.
Bar Harbor is a beautiful 45 minutes ride, 25 to Schoodic Park, Campabello Island, Canada with President Roosevelts summer cottage under an hour away. Quebec City is 6 hours...stop at Moosehead lake on the way 3.5 hrs. McClellan's park 10 minutes, Spring River Lake for swimming 10 minutes, Blueberry barrens and Cherryfield 20 minutes, Machias and Lubec 40 to 50 minutes. Rogues bluff, Jasper beach 35 minutes too many things to do and see for one trip. Harrington Medical Center 10 minutes. Island exploring
The home is on the water with 180 degree of the open Atlantic, Islands and up the bay to the Narraguagus river.
There is a small sandy beach. The property is within walking distance of the old town dock.
There are beautiful mountain views to the north and west with incredible sunsets.
Incredible views out to islands, the open Atlantic and in the other direction views of the bay and Narraguagus river.
